Excuse my ignorance but is this supercharger on the M43 motor?
-
Nice car.

A Tangi is when someone dies and all the relations come and visit the body and pay their respects because Maori believe that the soul remains until they are buried. Its kind of an outward expression of grief for the person who has passed away. The family will provide meals for all the visitors so it can get quite expensive as Tangis often go longer than a week.

Axent audio in West Auckland is the best speaker re-conditioner. You can buy speaker surrounds from them, or from Jaycar. Although for all that hassle for stock speakers, its probably wiser to just buy some better aftermarket speakers.
-
This is true. Its nice to have a clean pallete to work with though.

I thought this too, but there is nothing like a properly rebuilt engine. And this motor is meant to do 400,000kms; http://mywikimotors.com/m62b35/
-
So about $4K in machining and parts to recondition the engine completely?
-
I'm presuming this is the car you got from the 'friendly' Iranian chap up in Northland? What did it cost to get the work done on the heads? I'm surprised Wades has closed - hes been there for ages. What is Taylor automotive like?
-
Sounds just like a n42/n46 motor - they are noisy and very picky on correct oil and regular maintenance.
-
Someone got a good deal.....

Found this; http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/suspension-braces/auction-925302495.htm I have no association with the seller.

The cheapest would be to gut the cat(s). Just make sure it wont affect any sensors.

My thinking was that you are; Female Have a young child In the market for an e46 m3 Fastidious with maintenance and always get pre purchase inspections Have had maintenance done by Glenn in the past An active forum member on Bimmersport But I made an assumption/guess and I was wrong (you know what they say about assumptions). I think I should stick to my day job and not bother pursuing a career as a detective Anyways, glad the story had a happy ending with Glenn finding the fault before anyone got hurt. Just shows the value of Glenns 'do it properly' mentality. I know some people on here might sometimes think he is pedantic, but this just demonstrates why he needs to be - he quite possibly saved a life.

Sorry if I offended you - it wasn't intentional.

So its pretty clear the purchaser was Amber, yes? Its even scarier when its someone you know driving a car in this terrible state of neglect.
-
Surprising you cant get viton seals for them. I searched high and low for aftermarket seals before I ended up buying the stock bmw ones.
-
Not a future classic with that engine. With the 6 cylinders maybe but not the 4's.
-
How much do you normally get for a stripped shell like that?
-
Glenn, would you say these problems come from poor maintenance and incorrect/old oil, or is it a design fault from BMW?
-
I like this one, but in a different colour;

I'm replacing them myself but its not cheap. It cost me about $600 for valve stem seals, head gasket, and upper engine gasket set. I bought from these guys - http://www.euromarketing.co.nz/ Cams will have to be aligned afterwards which has to be done by a specialist as it needs an expensive bmw tool to do it - I'm not sure on the cost of that yet. This thread has my engine build info on it, but it needs updating as I've made further progress; http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/52977-n42n46-engine-rebuild/ Unless you are very attached to your car, you need to consider if it is worth keeping, as the valve seals will only get worse until they are replaced, and I would guess a mechanic would charge in the region of $1500 - $2000. The other option is to swap in a used 6 cylinder motor as they are excellent, but I wanted to keep the 4 cylinder in mine. I see you are reasonably close to me - I'm happy to have a look at your engine and give you a few pointers if that helps.

I have one you can use. I'm in Otahuhu, so not far from your cafe.

As Glenn says, it is almost 100% guaranteed to be valve stem seals. The N42 and N46 motors were plagued by this problem - usually because of lack of maintenance or incorrect oil. There is other maintenance that can be done to slow the speed of the problem getting worse - using correct oil and changing it at correct intervals, cleaning out or replacing ccv valve, cleaning out or replacing ccv valve hoses, cleaning out or replacing vaccuum pump, cleaning out gunk from the engine(engine flushes etc). The problem will continue to get worse though. If you do get the valve stem seals done (I'm rebuilding one of these motors at the moment) then make sure you take care of the other maintenance too to limit the chances of it happening again. How many kms on your motor? This thread with my experiences might help; http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/48568-ccv-valve-help/

Hi, I have a complete e46 wagon I'm wrecking with a great running m54b25 motor and everything else. Engine can be heard running, and car can be driven except it has no licence plates so you wouldn't want to drive very far at all. It is auto transmission and 160K and runs great. Message me if keen.

Can you remove my bid please. My grandkids were using my account without my knowledge.
