Sold... pretty much, pending finance for the buyer.

It's only cosmetic, so I'd just say don't consider the coating as a worthwhile selling point. I think the OEM discs for that model are uncoated anyway so will do the same. If you have rims that make the centre of the brake discs prominently visible it's just nicer to have some kind of coated or two-piece disc. What you can also do is just buy an uncoated disc and then paint it with high temp paint - something rated for brake calipers will do.
-
The RDA rotors performed fine but the rust coating failed pretty soon and the centre cap was coated in rust after a short while just like any other cheap rotor. Don't think I ended up updating my thread with that.

Relisted - now an auction. Even lower starting price at 60k https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3357358051?bof=71RVdfKh 😶

BMW made an LSD for these cars as well branded as an "M-performance LSD". Probably overpriced compared to aftermarket options as per usual but should be high quality. Speedfactor in Tauranga import the MFactory LSDs, I'd imagine they make one to fit a 235i. Worthwhile? I dunno, only if you actually push the car hard enough to get the back end out on the regular. Helpful on track, but on streets, even when pushing hard on back-roads, not so much. The e-LSD still does a good job emulating a real LSD most of the time. A real LSD does help with drifts though, holding the slides is much easier

You could make a fair bit back selling off the parts for the mods, although it'll be some work finding the stock parts... Almost certainly has been tuned if it had downpipes so warranty is probably gone, even having downpipes might be enough to be an issue. The burnouts might be off-putting but I don't think a few burnouts are much trouble for an M5. Although, check the tyre tread if buying lol. Price is high though... this one is newer and has less milaege, but is much cheaper: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m5/listing/3305969901?bof=p067FGkS 2019 with 6100km, for $118k...

ChCh Fabricator for Airbox work on Nissan Pulsar GTi-R
Matth5 replied to gofaster's topic in Engineering/Fabrication
Spec performance. They work on performance and race cars, should be able to help you out. They made my fire extinguisher mount for my M4. -
I did that at work before, from inside the office. Must have been the way I was sitting. Car had a sunroof to make matters worse... Didn't get soaked luckily, running the heater during the drive home took care of most of it.

Oh yep thanks, will update the link!

I bought a set through Speedfactor a few years back for my 335i. Price was similar to what it would be buying direct and using kiwishipping, but with less hassle as they dealt with the shipping and customs sh*t. They're popular for good reason - great quality and lightweight.
-
Listing is back up after being down for a while, since Auckland decided to have a covid outbreak and delay my plans 😶 Dropped the price - 75k now.

+1. They worked on my old 335i when I destroyed the engine. They did a partial rebuild on the replacement engine (all new bearings + other stuff) and it was good-as-new. If I needed another BMW engine opened up I'd happily use them again.

Seems to be the same car. Has some more details. Other cool stuff: Custom exhaust with E92 M3 M Perf. back section Carbon fiber driveshaft from an F82 m4 Dry sump And more... Such an awesome quality build.

Saw this come up in my youtube recommendations... damn it's awesome. I wonder if there are any sacrifices due to space constraints, like aircon or anything, and how balanced it can be with a much bigger engine in the front. That engine sure pairs beautifully with the DCT. Seeing those fast snappy shifts on the V10 is nice.

I use Star Insure for the M4. They are pretty good and offer insurance for classics, track days ect. I have made use of their track day cover. Never had to make a claim though.

Compare Schneidmann before buying from FCP. FCP is good but sometimes a European source is cheaper Their shipping rates are also not too bad for NZ, when i last used them. Not sure it would be worthwhile really. Shipping to NZ isn't cheap either way, especially due to covid pushing the shipping prices up.

Video the cops posted as well just shows some resentment for it being a modified car, they acted as if just making an M3 wagon is some dodgy criminal act in itself. These cops were so gleeful about sending a message to car enthusiasts that they didn't do their homework and crushed a car they shouldn't have. Really a sad waste of a nice car. I'd hope they tracked down the real thieves behind the apparently stolen cars but funnily enough they didn't seem to comment on that. They turned comments off on the video so nobody can post the real story there...

It's in manual mode and I am using the paddles. Yes it is stock and on the quiet side at lower revs. I disabled the piped-in engine noise using a BMW coding app and the car is quite insulated inside so you don't get much engine noise at low load. In all but the tightest corners I find it better to ride the low-end torque in 3rd rather than rev it out in second, so that also doesn't help Car has enough torque down low that I still need to modulate the throttle until it's straight so at some points it doesn't even sound like I'm accelerating when I am. In some sessions I cracked open the windows a little but this also brings in some wind noise. Maybe I should re-enable the piped-in engine noise, it's a bit phoney but it's fun haha.

I used one of those shower cleaners with good results, if you have that around. The ones that are meant to clean water spots from shower glass. Just keep it off the paint, or follow it up with detailer or wax. To keep it clean in future use a glass cleaner with a water repellant coating on the outside, or apply a coating. Helps greatly with visibility in the rain too.

Been a bit slack on sharing this... First track day in the M4, featuring a pair of Lotus' owned by a couple that are regulars there: And some better driving with a better angle on my 3rd trackday: Used a video editor to add in some laptimes here. Might do another one from my latest session in June if it's any good to watch.

Oh that poor car Someone buy it, and push it off a cliff to put it out of it's misery.

Anyone tried D1 Racing slotted rotors?
Matth5 replied to volcanoblack's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
Yeah I saved my 'warped' front rotors after a track day by having them machined the first time. The second time... I took sandpaper to them myself, was a pain but did the trick. Still a slight vibration if I pay attention for it, which I'm hoping will go away because I don't want to take the wheels off again 😁 BMW will of course advise you against machining. IMO it's fine but check how close your rotors are to minimum thickness, and ask the shop to take off as little material as necessary. Or get an arm workout by sanding them yourself. You're just scrubbing off brake pad deposit, you're not aiming to take off metal. -
Same place did it for me, also via photos and a few basic questions

Yeah I also noticed those listings in Aus. Been watching the prices there since I plan to move there. I reckon those are dreamer prices that have no chance. F80 and F82 prices are $70k-120k. That red E46 is priced as higher than F82 M4s with half the mileage. Sure you could say the E46 is becoming a classic but there isn't a shortage of them like with the E30s.
