  1. If somebody could sell me their touring, that'd be great
  2. Thanks! Yea it's a big pet peeve of mine, shitty listings. It's a confusing car because it has had 1000s/year spent on it from his local workshop but the guy also never seemed to vacuum/clean it? It's by no means mint but it's halfway there. A really good base for a project and some further TLC. The interior and its interior condition is the biggest selling point. Also M52, who doesn't love M52s?
  3. Any updates on the new radio Sam? How happy are you with it?
  4. And it's up for sale! https://www.trademe.co.nz/3500327266
  5. Sorry to not answer your question, but who was the Auckland business and did they give you a rough quote?
  6. I'm unsure. Forgot to look when I had the wheels off. Its a square set so I doubt someone got two halves of different sets. Tyres are 245/45/18. I'll whip the wheels off tomorrow.
  7. Definitely needs a suspension refresh. Rear bags are mint but front is tired. I'd be happy with $4k. Might try my luck on Facebook before paying the fees on TM.
  8. A few weeks of hard slog and we're getting there. Most of the faults in the first post have been rectified. Took both front seats out to really give the car a good clean and now all the seats work electrically. I can't believe these things have electric headrests 😂. Tailgate now opens by using the drivers footwell button, but not the exterior handle/button. The last major thing to tidy up is the roof which in reality isn't the end of the world. BUT it looks as though I have to sell the black beast prematurely. A job offer in the Central Otago region means we'll likely be moving on from Auckland. I'm not keen on driving 4 cars and a house removal truck, so something has to go. New job has free electric car charging so I'll be converting to the dark side once down there. Big question is, what to list for? Hard to find a comparison. If I was a gambling man I could go $1 reserve 🤔
  9. I bought three of the "Dr. ColorChip Squirt 'n Squeegee Kit" in Artic Silver, Titan Silver and Bronzit Beige over the years through Pelican Parts (was $65USD). I was never really that impressed with them but that could also have been operator error. The colour always seemed to be slightly off. I had far better luck with AMMO NYC's method of using a paint dropper/pen and the touch up paint from SuperCheap.
  10. Awesome, cheers for that. Ever had any issues?
  11. Funnily enough, the other two profiles bidding against me looked to be wreckers. Makes me feel better knowing I might have potentially saved this tank.
  12. An update for anyone that's interested. Been ticking a few boxes off on the E39. Alot of the work that needed doing, just needed time and some fiddling. Headlights polished and ended up being the retrofitted Hella kind. The sunroof drains were loose, letting the water in through the a-pillars. A bit of RTV and some weed-wacker-wire to clear the drain and it's good as gold. New number plates ordered to replace the beat up ones, a $23.50 bargain. Got a new front guard from pick-a-part. Rear cup holders and vent replaced. Rear window regulator replaced (swaged portion on the cable had come out of bracket). Leather cleaned and looks great. Found and fitted a rear cargo cover and net. New tailgate liner (still need to fix locking issue). Wheels cleaned up quite nicely. The oil burning and dropped cylinder ended up being a tired CCV. Replaced it and it runs mint. Has a new radiator, thermostat and water pump. Just going to replace the hoses and the expansion tank. Money saved from not having to swap the engine will go to the roof repair. All in all, happy ish with the car once I got over the initial shock. Realising now how hard a black car is to keep clean lol.
  13. Thread update for those with the ZF 5HP18/A5S310Z transmission. Trade price for the Fuchs Titan ATF D3 Semi Synth is now $57+GST for 4L or $288+GST for 20L, @drtimwright got a bargain back in 2018. These are the oils I'm currently looking at. The FCP products are obviously in NZD. I'm leaning towards getting 8L+ of the Castrol ATF Dex III locally unless anyone has any better recommendations?
  14. I got a good price from @PartsFriend Great guy to deal with and prompt service.
  15. Hi all. Battling through the 'resto' of my E39 touring. Doing the usual M52 maintenance as well. I noticed the radiator is the built-in-expansion-tank type that I'd only ever seen on 318tis'. I've seen other 6 cylinder E39s with the separate expansion tank that mounts to the shroud. My question is, is one better than the other? The built-in version is the same height and thickness but is 520mm wide vs 650mm. I can't seem to find much talk of it in the forums. I'll be replacing all of the cooling components bar the radiator if there's no gain from swapping. Thanks everyone!
  16. Cheers for offer @Olaf, but we'll be landing around 8am and then heading straight up north. Unless you live close to the airport? 😉

    E39 oil burner

Pretty sure I saw this weapon yesterday on the motorway, northbound? Recognized it straight away from the roof bars. Funnily enough i had just finished reading through this thread on last nights night shift. A damn good read!
  18. Well that's a unanimous answer from the Bimmersporters (a good thing). Onwards to the resto! Driving it back on the 29th of December. I'll keep the North Islanders posted if I need a driveway to pitstop in 😅
  19. Thanks @M3AN I'll flick you a message.
  20. Gents, recently made a purchase of what was to be a bit of a resto project after seeing this post. I was more than happy to pay too much in suspension and drive train parts as I imagined the car had probably been neglected mechanically for some time. However, I specifically asked "What's the paint like? Clear coat peel anywhere?" to which the seller replied "Paint ok for a car hasn't been garaged for the last decade. The odd scratch here and there. The bonnet has been resprayed. The only paint peel I've noticed is on the windscreen pillar." I had a friend who was local to the seller, go and give it a quick once over. It was raining very heavily so my mate couldn't say too much for the exterior. I completed the purchase and my mate went and collected it. Today I received these pictures. I stuffed up. But I also feel that the car wasnt correctly advertised. It doesn't have the original engine (according to workshop receipts), front windows don't operate, rear tailgate doesn't oped, trim snapped and clips all broken from someone attempting to fix tailgate, rear seat vents kicked in, FL wheel bearing noise that sounds like a plane taking off, rar window falls down, front electric seats not working. Had these faults and the large rust spot, dent on the roof and deep scratches been declared, I don't think it would have sold for half of what it did. Flights have been paid, insurance added and ownership papers transferred. I struggle to believe the seller didn't know of these problems. My question is, would it be fair to ask for a refund? Giving the seller the option to offer it to the 2nd highest bidder (a wrecker, so probably doesn't care about the condition of the roof)? If no success there, disputes tribunal? Or do I suck it up and take the loss/lesson learnt. Interested in everyone's opinion, so please chime in.
  21. Asking the experts of diagnostics on here what would be the best program to use for a suspected wheel speed sensor failure. I want to be able to see the outputs of the individual speed sensors so i know which one to replace on the E91. Is ProTool by BG capable of doing this? Or is there a new "go-to" with regards to diagnostics/coding apps? Any help appreciated.
  22. Loved seeing this in Karaka. Looking forward to seeing it at the next meet, i need to take more photos of that cooling system 😁
  23. I refurbed them. Started with some stripper but the 40 Yr old paint was too stubborn. So, I had a mate media blast them. Then I went to spray them but as soon as I opened my primer, it all started to set in the tin. I quickly rushed them down to a local paint guy to have them painted. I bought new centre caps and got The Panel Store in Papatoetoe to colour match. It all came out pretty bang on in the end. Finished them off with some RE003s.
