  1. Look for one in Auckland. I'll be doing pickapart rounds next week. If you find one up here... note $180 for a used one is just taking the piss when a new one is $250.
  2. Why not try a pick apart? Wreckers charge a huge premium for taking parts out for you. ?
  3. I don't know anything about them actually. I've only bought small things from eBay, like PDCs from china and key fobs. Both of those I can recommend. Were I in your shoes, I'd be considering local used, or fcp. I'm a huge fcp groupie though. Lifetime warranty is hard to pass up for me. Edit: URO parts gets bad ratings from BMW forum reviewers. Buy the ATE part for a bit more. I'll be doing yet another fcp order soon, you're welcome to tag along for reduced shipping.

    Quick rant thread.

Indeed. That's a wee bit out of the way, alas. ?

    Quick rant thread.

Washington state, or DC? My brother works at a large Audi/BMW dealership and has a lot of experience exporting from the US. Can hook anyone up who's keen (and serious.)
  6. Brand new for $180 USD https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-brake-master-cylinder-e32-uro-34311156643 EDIT: Ebay has good options too https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=34311156643&_sop=15

    Quick rant thread.

Do you have tax-free status in the US? I can facilitate US sales too, in New Hampshire, where there is no sales tax. Reach out if you're keen.
  8. What kind of features does the reflash enable?
  9. I tend to think that $1 auctions on cars are for cars that aren't in great condition. ?
  10. Note the sunroof is broken, as per the inspection report shown in the auction.
  11. Still a nice car. I wonder what it'll go for. Plus, it may not be a manual, but it has isofix!
  12. Ah. Sorry. My bad there. I agree with you that's annoying.
  13. Check this thread out...
  14. I tried to convince my wife I need a second BMW. She was not convinced, alas.
  15. Hey, gotta make sure it has the important features.... the kind that sells cars to wives...
  16. Replaced main belt tensioner and bolts, the idler pulley, popped on an engine cover cap I had been missing, and replaced AUC Sensor. I did the belts too. My old belts looked ok, and were dated from 2015, the car's done 60k KMs since then and I had the belts from my kit, so I replaced those too. Free used belts from 2015 if anyone is keen. Joke's on me not replacing the AC tensioner... it looks pretty rough and will have to go soon... Good lord, that fan cowl was rude to me and the fan clutch tools are a pain to get right. I spent more time on the cowl and fan tools than anything else. @*Glenn* The car no longer rattles at me! Sad note, a mate came over to help and now that I've replaced both tail light gaskets, and the boot rubber seal... He noticed the leak in my boot is from somewhere higher. I need some time to go in there with a torch and someone with a hose to check this with. Might co-opt the wife sometime. Some pictures below. Car on my fancy ramps, self-made! Old and new parts. And a video of how bad the old tensioner was!
  17. Mate, if you're keen on a car you can learn on... let's say this is the best kind of car you can get for that! EDIT: I was uncharitable earlier. It'll not only be a good car to learn on because it'll need so much work... This vintage car also has had probably anything and everything you'd want to do to it done to it by someone else, who's made a video guide detailing how to do it.
  18. Many thoughts... If it was serviced at a shop, the shop will have records. Ask that. If you don't know how to work on your own car, this is probably not the car for you, unless you have money, but are choosing to buy a cheap car that needs a lot of maintenance... At this price, and given the fact you really need to know how to work on cars to make this work... Whilst this might be a car for someone who knows about these cars, it might not be the car for you... Buying a $3k 330ci will probably incur at least another $3k in PARTS alone. If you have to take it to a shop for everything, it'll get out of hand fast.
  19. You know... We have 4 child seats (2 per car... It's a pain to move them around) and one of them is a Britax with a clicksafe system that is a breeze to install and move around. It costs $500ish, but that is the seat to get if your kid is forward facing and happy. I'll find a link. Trivial to install correctly and safely. EDIT: It's "Clicktight" and this is the seat https://www.babyonthemove.co.nz/car-seat/shop-by-weight/9-40kg/britax-frontier-click-tight It's worth every penny and installs solid tight unmoving on any car we've tried so far. ALR seatbelts not required, nor messing with the damn clips.
  20. I clicked on the link in the first post. That's the 2003 E46 M3 we're discussing here, isn't it?
  21. That doesn't look right. Look at that production date. This is a 2003 and an E46 (your VIN is from an E90 M3) So, car stalking for beginners. 22. Yeah, mine didn't have top tethers either. The irony being mine had top tether bolt holes and this installed reasonably easy... but mine doesn't have isofix.
  23. Try not to judge, but the fact this has isofix makes me think that's awesome and it sure would help sell it to the wife. ?
  24. ill take. Cool if I pick up next week?

    Airbag recalls

Yes, but they weren't ubiquitous at that stage. The airline industry analogy doesn't work, or apply here. That is a much more regulated/formalized industry than car manufacturing. We don't have an entire investigation every time a car crashes to determine the cause of the crash with mandated industry-wide change every time. This will vary by country and until a country like the US, or China (the EU?), start mandating airbag age checks/replacements/whatever, this isn't going to change, I don't think. There are exceptions, of course, but mostly by accident. Cars in some countries have to meet emissions standards, which sort of go along with age and are rolling forward, so a country like Singapore, or Japan, won't have an issue with airbag age, as a function of emissions checks mandating newer cars.
