needs a lot of love. carbon black is a nice colour and it's unlikely to be as rusty as a UK import. I reckon $25-27k, maybe a bit more if it comes with some spares.
-
needs to sell it so he can afford to buy a new camera

The problem being you're unlikely to be paying peanuts, even if that's what the techs at a main dealer are receiving. Gotta pay for the glass palace and coffee machine somehow
-
Nice work @Vass - that previously janky wiring strongly incentivises working on my car myself. Some people just have no interest in doing things properly (but are quite happy to be paid as though they do)

Roof rail delete looks so good on the e46 (and the PFL e91 for that matter)
-
Very infrequent that I have rear seat passengers, I suspect a little better than e91/e46 though. there were 3 plastic panels + battery hold down to remove and nowhere for the terminals to go in the f31. I really like it as a do it all car though, a G21 m340i appeals although probably wouldn’t offer much over the f31 except apple carplay

Battery access looks better in the E46 than in my F31 (as my newly skinless knuckles can attest). 8.5 years for the original Varta 90aH AGM in mine, i thought that wasn't too bad given the increased parasitic drain in newer cars

Replaced the original Varta 90aH AGM with a Century 95aH AGM. Was still starting ok but seemed a good time to swap. coding new battery with Bimmercode dead easy (although no 95aH option so left battery size as is) (sacrificed a fair bit of knuckle skin to the BMW gods, the battery compartment on the F31 is awkward to say the least)

Sorry @Olaf - as a dog owner it’s something I see frequently. Applicable to all the sloping roof SUV’s though, nothing specifically against the BMW version

This is clearly overpriced but looks decent otherwise. Bit older and may need rear air suspension replaced at this age. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/5038511096 I saw a lovely LCI F11 535d on the way to work this morning. 5er tourings (except for the current one) just look so good.

*many* might be pushing it @elias. There’s hundreds of thousands of the N57 out there between 3-4-5-6-7 series and X3-4-5-6. The timing chain is a bit of a weakness on the n47 but less so on n57, just a pain if it does need doing as it’s on the back of the engine against the bulkhead. Bearing failure if it happens is usually fatal to the engine due to the aluminium block and the hardness of the bearings ruins the crankshaft. IMO the N57 is one of the most reliable BMW engines though.

Hi @Willem - F31 is a good choice, plenty of engine options to choose from. I am 1.88m tall and fit fine. the N20 engine in the prefacelift 320i/328i is probably the least reliable in this series, still better than the older BMW 4cyl though. If you can find a facelift 320i with the B48 that would be a good option. As @Sammo says the torque in the diesel makes it feel like a much bigger engine. Post late 2013 N55 335i with electronic (rather than mechanical) waste gate is a great engine and not highly stressed in this application. X drive is quite surefooted and has benefit of slightly higher ride height for your gravel road surfing expedition (only diesels and the odd imported 320i have it though).

Is This Where The E30 Market Is Now..?
balancerider replied to E30 325i Rag-Top's topic in TradeMe discussions
No mention of the pinned up headliner in the ad description either @Vass. - speculative pricing still clearly on display -
Hey Wellington folk - have a litre of this left over from an oil change on a petrol BMW (no use to me as need LL04) . Come and take it off my hands so I don’t have to resort to FB Marketplace.

Great drivetrain but I can imagine the ‘dog taking a sh*t’ silhouette might limit the market somewhat.

@KwS The M sport steering wheels go shiny quickly but if not completely gone can be restored with magic eraser. The other touch points look OK to me, photos just a bit overexposed. Buttons on the AC panel still readable so clearly surviving better than the equivalent E9x It's quite well specced too - heated seats, pro nav, M sport plus pack, reverse cam, pan roof (may or may not be a win) and the WOF history is good.
-
@Goose all F3x's seem to be prone to that because of the bumper / bonnet interface
-
Would pull off the side skirt M Performance stickers but otherwise ticks a lot of boxes! (I may be biased)

That looks superb @Tobias01

Probably worth flying Sreten of M539 Restorations down for that one!

Jeezus. That's a bad failure mode...

Good news on the F30 sale @TermiPeteNZ - any progress on the X5 transmission? -
May want to look at this thread first @Harper
