There is some stuff on the LVVTA website. And they are very subjective in there application and depends on the certifier. Not all instances require hoops, but it does seem to be the trend for any driveline or power increases, regardless of whether it is a factory unmodified item for the engine/trans etc.... Great work Tony!!

That is almost as gold as that guy who runs himself over with his own E30....

That Heat Shielding looks exactly what I need!!! You did a very neat job on the install too. Why no E46's at pick'a'part *shakes fist* I presume he still can under the MSNZ Authority Card he'll be needing for the Cage if it is to remain road registered?!?!?

Finished welding up the new trans tunnel / firewall, got a coat of primer on it and ready for sealant. Engine Loom spread across the dinner table getting all un-necessary wires/plugs removed. Body Loom next. O'Joy

Looks good Steve. Although you're making the HX35 I've got for my 1JZ look small (proportionately). Has it still got the same 'hotside' as you had with the KKK?

What is the warranty arrangement on these Mac? Not wanting to go way off the sale topic, but there have been a few issues with these in the US on tracked BMW. Those I've looked at were replaced under warranty. Just interested if you'll have stock on hand to back-up any potential issues, as they do perform well and are good value. -
Hmmm, that does not compute... If a 1JZ is too much time & $$ then a S50B32 is well out of the park... A vvti 1JZ would be the business!!

Props! That first drive is so satisfying isn't it. But yet creates so many, things still to do... ...and in my case, still doing 10yrs since that first drive

Have you still got the original 80gb HDD with the live OS on it?? If so, put it back in and clone this onto your new 1TB drive (plug in with USB or FW400), pull it out (again) and put the newly cloned 1TB drive back in, and done....

I would hit Darren (NZAD) up first off. And dealing with Turner is def. no hassle, and I've had many orders shipped across from them.

NotedSaw some brush-on 'seam sealer' stuff in my travels, might revisit. Pics indeed!!!

Quick update & pics. Metal work nearing completion. Just have the area around the shifter and the steering column to go. Then onto seam sealing and some rattle can red.

More Cutting - More Welding. Firewall almost done (finally). Anyone (westy) got recommendations for seam sealer?? Was thinking just black RTV or some SIKA PU sealer...

The only things looser than the e30's were the Mk1 VW Polo's. -
I think the Chart was 'guidance' for W.O.F.'s If your rim/tyre combo wasn't on the chart then you'd need some kind of documentation from the tyre manufacturer. The LVVTA Certification process has no 'tyre' size fields (unless they have updated recently) only Rim Size and Ride Height (centre of wheel [up] to the Arch). [old whinging fart rant] And would suggest if you're going for some pimp'd slam'd uber-stretch beyond manufacturers spec's then you're pushing it uphill and putting us all at risk if you're on the road like that..... [/old whinging fart rant]

No argument there, and a few have done the conversion with great results. But if you want to compare with that LS3... has anyone ever priced up a S62B50 Complete 'turnkey' crate motor?? I'd be curious just for shits'n'giggles. I'd heard +20k for a bare longblock when that guy blew his at Taupo few yrs ago. A more realistic source would be like what HellBM did, and buy a wrecked M5 and swap 'everything' over. Even then, I'm sure the cost (of someone not in the trade) would be eye-watering. There are a couple of 3UZ's (4.3l VVTi) on trademe at the moment which are A LOT better that the 1UZ's (with respect to power / torque) and close to that of a M62B44, but with [flamesuit again] the Toyota reliability [/flamesuit] [broken record] Still can't beat a 2JZ for $/hp and reliability. [/broken record]

I wouldn't go for any ///M engine, the premium you pay $/hp is terrible. If I were dreaming, Grab an old M50B25NV stroke it with a crank from a toasted/throw-away M54B30, throw some nice H-beam rods & forged pistons in the bottom end, a nice HX40 c/o Crunchy and a Link G4 with a good tune. [flame suit] If I were being sensible (from my POV), stick a late model vvti 2JZ-GTE & 5spd auto in there. [/flame suit]

Awesome to see such an in-depth maintenance regime!! Good work. I presume you are aware you'll be needing a Cert' from the LVVTA for those spacers. IIRC when they get up near 20mm thick they are required to be the 'bolt-on' adaptor type also (but could be wrong). My preferred solution would have been to get another pair of rear wheels to widen out the front, then no cert' req'd.

+1 Was there with my 4yo, he was most distraut to see a GTR in such a state.

Style 20 / 21 must be Naked and 9" Closely followed by Style 32's (in 17 or 18 x 9 of course)

Did some more cutting 'n' welding, and lots of measuring. and a little bit of just sitting there making engine sounds

Well overdue for an update. Been a quiet winter, spending time in the warm with the kids had a bit more appeal than the cold garage. But it's spring, so lets check out the new growth... Got the new Firewall & Trans Tunnel folded up, and have started fab'ing into place. The top half of the firewall is now welded inplace. Next is the trans.tunnel O'Joy

Coming along well. You may find those 7kg rear springs a bit soft (in relation to the front). 'Generally' E36 rear springs are 20% higher rate than the fronts when installed in the stock (inboard) location due to the high motion ratio.

ummmm, aren't the stock reinforcement plates meant to go on the inside of the shock towers.... Like the Colour!!!
