  1. Digging my own thread No pics sorry. Got the manifold for the new turbo all welded up, finally. Engine Mounts and Gearbox cross-member / mounts all fab'd up and in place. Ordered a bunch of parts to do the exhaust downpipe / Wastegate, much easier with no firewall. Have a lovely Tilton Floor Mounted Pedal Box & MC's sitting in the cupboard, for when the firewall gets closed in.
  2. Would one of these made the issue better or worse Ben? WG adaptor/spacer
  3. aespablo, You've asked a question that can have VERY opinionated responses, as you'll be noticing already. If a tyre performs at a safe level, as per the risk profile you find acceptable, then there is no reason why the 'cool' factor can not be added to selection criteria. I personally focus on getting the best performing tyre for my money, and not care how it looks or if it's kewl, but thats just me. Prime examples of not cool looking tyres are, if some can cast their mind back, would be: Dunlop W10's with the rim protectors bigger than J-Lo's backend and to a lesser extent the FM-901's Of the same era, Bridgestone S-02's & RE-711's were very cool looking tyres. A friend of mine got sone new rubber for his late model Caldina Family Wagon. It has the stock 17's, wanted some middle of the road tyres, thus got some Bridgestone MY-01's. And they looked terrible on the rims & worse when put back on the car. He promptly took it back and got them changed to RE-11's, not 'cause he needed the extra performance or really wanted to spend the extra $$, and they look much better. On another note, if you're changine the rims, something a bit wider than 7.5" would suit the E46 better, they have pretty cavernous arches that like to be filled.
  4. Can't add anymore than the thoughts you have had. Other than thinking I'd remove that switch to be well sure of no 2wd moments up Mt.Vic on Sunday.
  5. Don't suppose he cared to mention you would also then need a LVVTA cert for the spacers. +2 (Have a set in my E30)
  6. E90 320si 1170kg & 275hp not too shabby considering the rule set they run too. if you want to see pretty much an 'unlimited' version of the same chassis, you just need to look at the current E92 M3: DTM, ALMS, GT2 cars. but somehow don't think you'll ever seen a 4pot screamer in one of them, no matter how nostalgic it may feel.
  7. Reminds me of my youth. Picking up the old mans work ute after getting new tyres put on it. Then having all 6 wheel studs shear off and loose the right front wheel pulling to the the driveway.
  8. Good to see some progress. I find it really hard to get back into things after a break, Spend more time finding tools I didn't put away properly *doh* I probably should follow suit update my thread also (finally got the manifold all welded up). I take it you are building your own cage then. *props* Don't think I trust my welding skills enough, a lil' bit too inconsistent. Re: cage landings, or 'plinths' in your proposed case. Not sure if you trawl the Bimmerforums 'Track' sub-forum? There was an epic saga about using Plinths Vs the usual reinforcement type footing. Don't recall the outcome as there were a few contradictions from the sanctioning bodies in the US. The thing that strikes me, the reinforcement (3mm plates) to the ex. sheet metal approach is to prevent the tubes puncturing the thin sheet metal. With a plinth, the plinth itself could puncture/shear through the sheet metal if there is no reinforcement done to the underlying area first. ie. 2x the work to do properly. If it is about shortening the A & B Pillar bars so the cage can be dropped off the plinths to weld 360° around the A-B pillar join & windscreen bar, you can also cut holes to drop the cage through with a std reinforcement plate design. My 2c I wouldn't go for a plinth to mount the cage.
  9. Seen the OP's prob's all too often. I found a place that has a wheel align tech who knows what he is doing, and tyre fitters that work on euro's all day long, so when presented with a asymmetric tyre they know what you are saying. I had to leave a note on an E36 M3 vert a few years back. Had a brand new set of Goodyear GSD-3 *cringe*. All were the same size (wrong 235/45's), and the 8.5" rear wheels were on the front and 7.5's on the rear. Looked so bad, but I guess not all 'know' what they are looking at, as it appeared immaculate *facepalm*
  10. yeah, I was trying to say that more metaphorically, possibly a bit more PC? But you got the drift, and I'm not to sensitive about it.
  11. Maybe if it were a 3d monopoly board, and you were only viewing it in plan. Infinite 'levels' of the 'same' start place would be come aparent when you find the orbit tool.

    e36 + kelleners

I'll follow tradition by finding something to nit pick about Too Low in the Rear, looks too 'sacked it bro on some cutties and cambered it out aye' for my liking. E36's look nice with a bit of rake IMHO. Front is spot on. Hell camber & Tuckage on the rear is for nancy boys.
  13. At 3yrs old, I would have thought the value would have almost been written off the books (from a Business POV). Can it even be claimed under your personal house & contents? being a 'business' asset. Interested to hear what they do.
  14. The AC Crumbed Scniztels' /End Thread The others would look hawt, but need hubcentering rings (from an E39 I believe)

    e36 racecar

Example of better value out there: AP Fronts for E46 M3 2200USD Most (all) BBK's will have the issue SweetM3 mentions with OE wheels. They just don't have the spoke clearance. Also, you wouldn't spend $4500 on a BBK and still run OE wheels on a racecar, thats just daft as even the 'light weight' ones are still ~9-10kg each. There is a good selection of lightweight wheels available ex.USA for the E36 EDIT: Also check the Turner Motorsport website, IIRC they had some bargin deals on the 'Performance Friction' kits
  16. For unique-ness I'd be doing an M10 + Turbo. There is a nice E30 318i build on e30tech, and you only need to glance at Mike Delmonts' 2002 Turbo to the potential (and cheque book req'd). An M50E30 is so played out for a measly 192hp (stock).
  17. Don't have M-Coupe TA's that will fit the outer M3 CV's The E30 shafts don't seem to be the problem, the CV's tend to die first. E28 axles use the bigger 6 bolt CV's both ends also, makes them easy to swap-out if needed, without messing up wheel bearing etc... Can also get super strong 300M Axles and CV's off the shelf if the need ever arises.
  18. Interesting. RWHP bodes well for my ongoing single turbo / engine set back project. Both SRBMW & myself are all too familiar with the E30 Axle failure. Thus the E28 Axles & Supra Diff in mine. Surprised he had axle issues really, with those uber stretched 215's, there would be hardly any rubber on the road anyway, combined with +400hp. Must have been the muppet factor then...
  19. Not after a project then: E36 Compact
  20. BW S480 Take the RHD bank forward, cross under the front of the motor and up to the LHD side.
  21. Are you using them on all four corners Steve?? I'm running a full set of 911 C4 calipers (next size down from the older GT3 4pots). I did run the 750 25mm MC, but was a bit to rear biased, wilwood prop.valve fixed that. Run Pagid RS4-4 (orange) race pads. Have a Tilton floor mounted pedal box sitting in the cupboard now.
  22. Excuse the DTM / Grp A car reference pics. At the bottom of the tyre in this pic: Also have to watch the front here where they have scollped the back of the wheel well: And not shown, the the bottom of the battery tray area also.
