  1. You dont expect anything to last forever but you expect a decent life out such a critical part. If you look at M60 timing setup you'll see its far better\built to last alot longer than the M62 arrangement. Only one reason in my mind BMW would use an inferior system.
  2. Seems like everybody is deciding to sell their E34 540i manuals at the same time
  3. Who buys BMW special tools anyway? most are way overpriced. I always use alt's or make your own up. Oil servicing plays a big part im sure and maintaining correct chain tension to reduce wear. I know BMW were using 24,000km oil changes for the M62tu which i think is a a joke and they clearly trying to reduce their expenses at expensive of engine life.
  4. Only one in Hamilton as far as i know - Ingham Prestige
  5. I remember going thru this sh*t, couldn't source one from any BMW supplier to boot. Eventually through some research i discovered Mercedes actually use the same Behr(i think) radiators which have the same part, so ended up getting one for around $20 from local Mercedes dealer in Hamilton. +1 Mercedes and f**k you to BMW saying i had to buy a new radiator to get one. Can't recall the part number but im sure you can find it. Hope this helps.
  6. I wouldn't say its normal but its not necessarily a problem depending what is actually making the noise
  7. Sounds like a typical NZ owner who bought it for the badge
  8. Alot easier to bleed when 4 wheels are removed
  9. I honestly don't think i could live with E60 interior design no matter how good the car is.
  10. BMW appear to be doing what Japanese have been doing for awhile, in having heaps of similar models with slightly looks etc. All these new models coming out look pretty much the same to me. If modern BMW didn't have badges\grilles then they would just blend it with all the other genericness, just like most modern built stuff.
  11. 15k would be the max id ever buy a 540is for, no matter how mint.
  12. Anyone got any lying around, i forgot i used up my spare set. Tried BMW, Gavin and milland with no luck I need 6x
  13. No idea why he's goes with that stupid intake mod and its missing bodykit . Sure its a nice car otherwise but for me 20k gets me a mint E34 M5.
  14. Id say if since they aren't stamped AC Schintzer and lacking other markings they would be reps
  15. Pulled it out yesterday, cleaned it today, painting the block tomorrow, and then onto the rest
  16. Finding one is the hardest part. The last manual one i bought at $1500 and sold it for $1200, was rugged exterior wise but drove\handled well even at 450,000km I agree. E34's in general don't tend to have rust issues anyway.
  17. Unless someone has added one(doubt it) there's no lsd on the options list. I dont think its a good buy for 2.5k either. Ive bought minter ones for <2k.
  18. Last E34 540i touring i remember seeing for sale was a few years ago, it an old members ones, very tidy, and was in the low 5 digit iirc. I don't think ive seen on for sale since.
  19. Bound to someone from here in Dunedin with the tools to do this for a fair price.
  20. At that price i would expect 3 pedals as a start
  21. Either that or its the colours, they are at opposite ends of the scale.
  22. Exactly. I have nothing against SMG gearbox's and they have their advantages but given a choice id take a manual every time regardless. BMW's philosophy was always to offer M cars in manual.
  23. I dont think ive ever heard a bad V8 from any manufacturer
  24. The benefits of a proper manual still outweigh any other transmission
