  2. On the manual subject a period car needs to be manual to typify the experience. I'd hate a auto or SMG version in my 60s Mini's. Wouldn't get the best out of the limited power in one of them. The other wouldn't seem right with LSD, straight cut cr box and drop gears and the mechanical raucous that will go on.
  3. Ruined by the PC brigade, Did you notice the double yellow lines bridge to bridge ? Cops hiding in trees during summer. Pinging any biker that dares to overtake the car traveling at 30 kph with half a km of traffic held behind it.
  4. Almost done ..... 400 lossless digital albums all controlled via factory nav and sound via digital audio straight into aftermarket DSP.
  5. Log in not work from drop down (running surface RT 2008) On screen keyboard kept disappearing and the word display would overwrite login field. Might be an issue for other tablets ? Could login via support link as alternative.
  6. http://www.mishimoto.com/bmw-radiator-performance-aluminum.html Plenty of these used in track day BMW M3s Worth a look
  7. car dealer warned me off high km e55 compressors. He had a warranty claim for $20k for a customer to replace the active rear shocks and a couple of suspension bits in the rear. He won't sell them anymore . I do however know two owners that have had theses from new without issues. I think the M5 would be a safer bet in this regard.
  8. After you've reported it stolen to the police make a request for video footage under the official information act. Being a council they have certain responsibilities to provide information. Cc your solicitor Here's how http://www.howtolaw.co/make-an-official-information-request-392288#

    Airbag recalls

Sounding like USA is about to get the first batch of 45000 air bags for the second recall. These are large campaigns to gear up for so I wouldn't expect it to be over night. Local dealer replaced my passenger one during a warrant. No charges where applied.
  10. Great car to have over your way. Castlepoint drive would be excellent as would back roads for a Martinborugh for a coffee. Enjoy !
  11. I think the issue might have been BMW understating the 1m figures as it had similar power and more torque than the more expensive e90 m3s Eitherway the 1m is a fantastic.car . Ironically the USA LHD versions could be brought for Nz$50,000 new from the dealer when I was in San Deigo 2012 . Bargain car at that price.
  12. Dyno run was at a bmwcc event in wellington 1M was highest BMW on the day by a clear margin. Just over 400 hp and 550nm. Second was a SLK32 at 396hp (Had been overdriven and cold air intake) My e46 was 305hp 330nms from memory and another modified e46 m3 did 275hp but run limited to 7000rpm as running too rich There was a 335i but it wouldn't rev out on dyno so we missed out on the differences between turbo engines. BTW 135s jumped to 235kw in some counties. (135is in USA for example)
  13. At a dyno day one of these cleared my e46 m3 by 70 kilowatts / 200nm at the hubs yet both cars are rated around the 250 kW mark . Both cars were standard.
  14. Welcome ! I'm another e46 coupe / etal bike owner.
  15. Would it need one for engine transplant ? 325i and 328i have same power quoted by the factory when standard. Seats would bolt in. Thinking it would be suspension that may need it.
  16. The brand of stacker is on the back of it. NZ new e36s many used Sony units to a certain point. ( my NZ 94 325i) Philips where also used ( wife's 96 328i) Take a picture of the stacker cartridge and post it up. Might be able to tell from that.
  17. I would have done exactly the same thing. I wouldn't waste time or experiment finding a place to do springs. Too many trashed car stories and double visits. It's also ironic that the current dealer mechanics get a bashing , old gen bashing the new gen. Kiwi thing. Had a opportunity to talk with one here locally. Had come out from my fav motorcycle dealer and had probably shimmed more valve trains than the majority of car mechanics. Had been working through the BMW courses etc. I'd have no issue with him doing servicing ( and shims)on my M3 any time but there are quite a number there that I have the same regard for.
  18. wives 328i had two issues which also gave empty fuel light on issues. 1, wire had broken off from fuel sensor (soldered back on with the usual precautions take when working around fuel tanks) 2. A section of wire under rear seat had become damaged and needed replacement ( not obvious to the eye)
  19. I've always treated them as a safety item and look for cost savings elsewhere like coffee addiction for example. Last set of rotors where $1800 by contrast.
  20. Probably done 600,000 kms in BMs and have always found OE rotors and OE pads the best long term combo. Tried skimming a couple of times but like your experience only was effective for 20,000 km. Down side is brake dust on OEM but never had shaking or out of balance type behaviour.

    E46 M3

One more Alpine White down this way. Sits next to a 850 and 635csi highlne 535i and a couple others . Very collectable!
  22. Is the main positive lead out of battery still intact ? Also check the heavy duty line fuses in box above battery and look for corrosion as well. Also check battery voltage and make sure its not too low
  23. Alan has the advantage that the compact doors are already opened up. No need to cut the metal. An alternative to running new amp and cabling iis the technic plug in harness. The mid bass wiring on the e46 is roughly 15 gauge so debatable to replace. Otherwise quite a bit of trim removal is required to route cable through car. http://www.technicpnp.com/product_purchase/BMW_HiFi_3series_E90-92-93.html
  24. Can't speak from experience but I understand its issues like staying in gear or won't go into and having SMG cog lamp on.
