Gonna actually get a bit of sheet metal and slant it from the bottom of the valance to above that bent bit. Painted black should be less visible plus serve some purpose in ducting air towards the radiator from those vents.

Yeah all it did was sorta bend the top down against the bottom and crumple it up some more lol

bugger! did the engine not come from a running car?

Yep it was but the leak is very very slow, it only seeps out when it is running. Apparently there was a recall on the 90's for m50's about this issue where they were leaking out the rear of the head. They put pressure in the cooling system and apparently it was just spewing out.. New gasket and bolts on the way anywho. If anyone knows of a good DIY thread that would be MINT.

Is there a warranty on the engine from the people you purchased it off ??

If not... when youve done this you'll be an E36 M50 expert as well... more tools needed and more research

Bad luck dude! Get that headgasket replaced and see you at the meet! ;)

Hopefully!

They said around $600 + parts. But they are waaaay to busy and overbooked for days in advance to be carrying out a headgasket replacement. Thinking of stripping it down to the head - take it to them then all they have to do is pull the head, replace the headgasket then I can assemble manifolds etc.

You reallllly don't have good luck with this E30 do ya mate.

Yeah hard, all that luck with everything going so smoothly was too good to be true haha. Oh well I'm not too worried, new headgasket is quite re-assuring.

Hey John-we know a temporarily unemployed beemer tech :P

Expect a text in the morning sir :P

Yep, Jeff grey don't want to touch it even if I brought it into them at the stage it's at now - which is everything removed and just needs the head taken off. Sooo going to have to find an e12 torx socket and how to do the timing chain stuff.

Ugh too many tools to do this properly, by the time I find / buy everything I need like the special chain tensioning tool and cam alignment tool, sockets etc. Going to ring and beg Jeff grays tomorrow haha.
