What'd you do to your BMW today?

Recommended Posts

Used a little polish today.

Apparently our car is blue. Who would have known? ;)

Washed my new E38, then worked out why its running like a dog.

Enjoying having one though, a real step ahead over the E32

then proceeded to rearrange the garage and get some other non-car jobs around the house done

Painted the engine bay, went a bit HAM with the grinder and cut a whole lot of crap out while I was there. Not bad for a lazy hungover Sunday.

Also got block Pistons etc back from engine shop, just waiting on bearings and rings to turn up so I can assemble the block.

E30:

  • New front swaybar bushings
  • New offset m3 solid LCA bushings

Steering response and braking is hugely improved. Noticeably less body roll (both the old sets of bushings were totally toasted)

E36:

  • New waterpump
  • New thermostat and housing
  • New rad hoses
  • New coolant

That'll explain the overheating.

Two steps forward, one step back on the e30. New battery, adjusted valve clearance so now she starts and purrs like a kitten. Buuuuttt... Went to change oil and filter and turns out the sump drain is stripped. Ugghhhh

i brought a 740iL E32 off a diesel mechanic for a linehaul company, needed to use 3 foot of breaker bar to crack the wheel bolts, stripping a couple of the bolts in every hub in the process. Good job it was getting wrecked anyways.

Diesel guys just seem to forget petrols (well... cars..) are much less forgiving

The lack of peoples ability to understand how much bolts and nuts should be torqued is really frustrating.

I've seen people I know do extensive work without the use of a torque wrench, it's just ridiculous.

New M3 offset LCA bushings on the 328i...

Involved some innovative use of a gear puller and a sash clamp :)
