musccoo 82 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 Anyone interested in group buy on these? http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=269486He said USD $250 shipped to NZ for one, but I'm sure that could change for a few..
Kobra 180 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 Possibly interested. What's the hole for? Oil changes? I also have an e36 steering rack, I'm hoping that wont make a difference.
musccoo 82 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 Yea theres more pics in the link . Haha nah its all good sorted that.
_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 most likely still compatible with E36 rack. question worth asking which will increase your bites..... is it M5x compatible
gjm 3258 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 ..... is it M5x compatible Don't think it is, but that may have changed. Last I saw it wasn't M5x compatible, or even 16v. It was originally designed for M20s but plans were to expand on that.
e30ftw 410 Report post Posted May 13, 2015 (edited) They are $150US on the website and also has swapped options. http://www.red46.net/store/p6/Sump_Armor_-_BMW_E30.html I'm sure if you bought multiple ones shipping wouldn't go up too much either from buying a single one, just depends on weight. qube 3570 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 why doesnt one person buy it and split the costs with x number of people then get it made locally after getting it scanned? im sure it will be cheaper no?
Allanw 1071 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 If you order a pile of them, you'll probably get stung for GST/customs on the way in, which may defeat the purpose of a group buy??????? Something to look into at least!
musccoo 82 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Yea I had thought about gst obviously would have to calculate that based on how much interest and if it's worth it or not
_ethrty-Andy_ 2132 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 based on knowing how far my dollar goes at my local engineer, id say you would be struggling to produce that for $250 to be of a suitable quality worth fitting.
hybrid 1043 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 hmmmm Im sure talk nicely to Michael and he'll cad some up .... laser cut + press brake = done.
thorburn 121 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Your talking to the wrong engineers or paying in the wrong currency. Guys at my work have worked 5+ hours on a weekend for a box of piss. If someone wants me to replicate a couple i'd be keen. (i'm not here to make money, although the beer fridge is quite empty)I've got access to cad software, profile cutters work across the road from my work, i've got a folder at work that will be fine with 3mm stainless and can weld it as well.
MLM 57 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 A few simple design upgrade's and you could negate having to weld stiffness an nuts. Dosnt need scanning just tape measure to get oa dims.
gjm 3258 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 If we're serious about this, it'd be nice if it can be done locally, especially if there are savings to be had too.
musccoo 82 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 Agreed, local is always preferable..
polley 916 Report post Posted May 14, 2015 The one pictured would only protect you from pebbles anyway. As said earlier, just get one profile cut and pressed.
BrentNZ 44 Report post Posted May 29, 2018 Did this go any further with getting made locally? I need one.
Palazzo 477 Report post Posted May 29, 2018 I have an original one an engineering shop could copy.
Cammsport 390 Report post Posted May 29, 2018 I desperately need one also. Perhaps if enough of us get together we can lower cost of either importing or copying Palazzo's one.

gjm 3258 Report post Posted May 29, 2018 Can there be such a thing as a 'universal' fit sump guard - M10, M20, M30, M5x, M6x... ?
BrentNZ 44 Report post Posted May 29, 2018 19 minutes ago, gjm said: Can there be such a thing as a 'universal' fit sump guard - M10, M20, M30, M5x, M6x... ? Based on the Red46 page, they have 5 different ones, based on pictures it varies for the sump bung? or height for clearance of the different engine options. so I'm thinking a universal fit won't work. I will keep hunting locally, If I can find something I'm happy to facilitate a group buy..
gjm 3258 Report post Posted May 29, 2018 @Palazzo - where in Auckland are you? If James - @thorburn - can help, I may be able to relay the 'pattern' to him.
