Shouldn't be any additional charges on receipt in NZ - MyUS is playing GST collector for NZ and charging the recipient (you, me, etc) the GST before they'll ship. Unfortunately it does mean paying local taxes in the US (if any) and paying GST, as the initial shipment will be a domestic one and thus not tax exempt. I've just placed another order today and they did not charge GST... we'll see what happens as it crosses the border... Also emailed them about it and they replied that they will ask the shipping department for any "progress on this matter" On the news the other night it was stated that 372 companies worldwide had "signed up" to the requirement. That is 3/5ths of SFA and I predict chaos as all these packages arrive with no GST being paid? Will they try and collect it from us at the border? For all values? Down to $1? Service. The only thing that has changed are the thresholds and a tweak to a couple of the rules. The customs process remains the same. FedEx bread-and-butter business. Amazon International doesn't ship to Australia at all, but amazon.com.au has most things from Amazon International anyway, and they have Prime. So in many ways, they got a better deal in the end. The selection is more limited, but what Amazon does sell ships a lot cheaper to AU now. Ah my bad. Yeah, amazon.com.au does not ship here. I haven't tried co.uk in awhile, they might? If that's through Aliexpress or Alibaba, GST was paid without you knowing....... but does seem very random which sites/countries/companies they are targeting and whether or not you'll get done at the border..... very haphazard to say the least. This is the bit I just cannot understand. How is NZ persuading the rest of the world to collect GST on behalf of NZ, and getting that money paid to NZ? It makes no sense. Of course, the fundamental ineptitude of NZ Post means that were they to be required to apply tax to all imports, no-one would ever receive anything. The best thing we can do is to petition our suppliers of preference to use unbranded packaging. Customs must have been crestfallen when the government introduced this during the Christmas rush, dumb move and probably why many packages will get through at the moment. A friend of mine last month split his order over two to avoid GST, but FedEx ended up picking up on it and he had to fork out once they landed.
