Updated by MyUS and shipped to NZ using FedEx International Economy, where it was delivered this morning - 5th November. Two weeks order to door. Takes NZ Post that long to get something through customs (having already spent 3-4 days getting it from the plane to customs), then that long again to deliver in country! How much cheaper was the shipping this way than just shipping straight from FCP? I've found FCP's shipping costs not too bad.

sweetm3 180 Report post Posted December 2, 2019 Guessing that this is because of the changes "Hi Mark,If the buyer is international, it makes things much more complicated. Also, I will stay within the boundaries of eBay’s features. This is why I’d rather handle a domestic sale.

Fear not! ... so you can buy on eBay, ship to your Florida address, aggregate, trans-ship to Niu Zild, and pay your Gubbermint Stealing Tax here too. Everybody wins. Shouldn't be any additional charges on receipt in NZ - MyUS is playing GST collector for NZ and charging the recipient (you, me, etc) the GST before they'll ship. Unfortunately it does mean paying local taxes in the US (if any) and paying GST, as the initial shipment will be a domestic one and thus not tax exempt. gjm 3258 Report post Posted December 2, 2019 Presumably a shipment from overseas, with the customs form saying "GST paid", would clear customs in NZ without issue...?
hqstu 780 Report post Posted December 2, 2019 I alerted FCP Euro to this change a while ago now. I've just placed another order today and they did not charge GST... we'll see what happens as it crosses the border... Also emailed them about it and they replied that they will ask the shipping department for any "progress on this matter" On the news the other night it was stated that 372 companies worldwide had "signed up" to the requirement. That is 3/5ths of SFA and I predict chaos as all these packages arrive with no GST being paid? Will they try and collect it from us at the border? For all values? Down to $1? I suspect not...
Olaf 3317 Report post Posted December 3, 2019 just as it was before, choose FedEx from FCP Euro, FedEx will then tell you how much you need to pay, and they'll give you time ahead of the package arrival. Service. The only thing that has changed are the thresholds and a tweak to a couple of the rules. The customs process remains the same. FedEx bread-and-butter business. Eagle 1662 Report post Posted December 3, 2019 +1. All the main carriers have always handled GST, they just collect it on everything now.

Amazon International doesn't ship to Australia at all, but amazon.com.au has most things from Amazon International anyway, and they have Prime. So in many ways, they got a better deal in the end. The selection is more limited, but what Amazon does sell ships a lot cheaper to AU now. This thread makes me think I should travel home to the US more often and bring back some heavy things in my luggage selectively.

Ah my bad. Yeah, amazon.com.au does not ship here. I haven't tried co.uk in awhile, they might? Bookdepository still ships here just fine (That's amazon-owned too, if that isn't obvious)

If that's through Aliexpress or Alibaba, GST was paid without you knowing....... but does seem very random which sites/countries/companies they are targeting and whether or not you'll get done at the border..... very haphazard to say the least. This is the bit I just cannot understand. How is NZ persuading the rest of the world to collect GST on behalf of NZ, and getting that money paid to NZ? It makes no sense. Of course, the fundamental ineptitude of NZ Post means that were they to be required to apply tax to all imports, no-one would ever receive anything. NZ Post are - essentially - useless at this, and take weeks to do something that FedEx (etc) are able to do with no time penalty.
Driftit 2078 Report post Posted December 9, 2019 We really should organise to ship all our FCP orders together though. Or could that get us picked up.
M3AN 4016 Report post Posted December 9, 2019 That will almost certainly trigger a different process (>$1000) and we'd face duty on top of the GST. The best thing we can do is to petition our suppliers of preference to use unbranded packaging. Customs must have been crestfallen when the government introduced this during the Christmas rush, dumb move and probably why many packages will get through at the moment. hqstu 780 Report post Posted December 9, 2019 3 hours ago, M3AN said: duty Reading through some docs of govt websites, the only things that attract duty nowadays is some food, some liquor, some fuels. That's about it. There hasn't been any duty on auto parts for years as far as I understand things. There may well be import fees of various types for goods over $1000, but duty is all but history. I have parts awaiting pickup from my work... FCP Euro/via fedex, no GST charged.

A friend of mine last month split his order over two to avoid GST, but FedEx ended up picking up on it and he had to fork out once they landed. Seems like they don't care about anything less than $400 at the moment.
