I think people are jumping to conclusions about getting it (re)scanned. We have no information to suggest it wasn't done by a competent mechanic the first time around. That picture you posted @Bendy says "faults listed" and then "recorded" - did they give you a copy of that record? i.e. did you get the fault list? Post that here.

3...Sport . Picked this up on Trademe a couple of weeks back sight unseen, and flew down to Tauranga on the weekend to pick it up. 2003 E46 325i MSport Individual - NZ New, 161km, auto, facelift, leather. Has a near full Coombes Johnston BMW service history from new. Ticked the boxes for what I was after for a daily driver. Given the overall condition of the car there are no plans other than replacing a few little cosmetic items (faded emblems, wiper blades etc), and a paint correction/protection in due course. Got stuck in yesterday tidying it up inside and out and she came up okay!

Manual converted pfl coupe with a body kit. Think he's milking the e30 tax a little hard myself.

Star rated tyres are tyres from companies that the car come out from factory with. Having them can make a difference when it comes to how the transfer case reacts during cornering etc. Less of an issue in the e53 but more prodominate in the e70/83 and f15/25

But the owner says it runs & drives well. It can't have a blown head gasket I'm tempted for shits & giggles. Not that i need another car...

Who quoted you $750 for a battery and $1000 for wipers!? Assume same person based on those exorbitant prices. Hope its not your go to mechanic. If so, find a new one!

.small update not much going on at the moment had to throw down 90m2 of concrete as the grass and mud got to much. moulded the fibre glass rear guards together and fitted doors and front guards. front and rear bumpers are a bit tricky as they require a little lateral thinking on how to attach with 1/3 turn clips.

Any help re filter https://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?searchString=fuel+filter+e90&type=Search&searchType=2738&user_region=100&user_district=0 Under the impression a good quality spark plug should last around 100, 000k, fuel filters, air filters 40,000 unless very dusty conditions oil filter you choose

I don't know for sure, but the material difference wouldn't make much difference heat wise. From my experience, the Issue with stainless is you can only get thinner metals, and most common stainless (304-316) aren't that great for exhausts, they have a hardness that seems to equate to a high resonance (might be how you explain it, idk) so tend to give off more noise with the exhaust, so they can sound a bit cammy or ticky up front, especially when cold. That's why BMW double wall their stainless exhausts in some cases to cut the noise, it's also good for heat -but that's another discussion haha. The other issue with stainless headers, is the tenancy to crack, but that depends how they are made more than anything, but standard mild steels (ie boiler tube) is more forgiving for such, and quieter noise wise. A mild steel exhaust is a must for coating, due to the rust factor. Could get away with it, if you went stainless, but I'd still coat them for the thermal property reductions.

Im running 16x8 et5 and 16x9.5 et 10 with 20mm spacers (to clear the struts). Front just needed guards rolled. Rear needed guards pumped by 15mm.

Nice car. But whenever I see Alpine White cars I can't help but notice the color differences. It might not be this bad in person but the bumpers and side-skirts on that car are a different tone to the rest of the car.

Personally I see this as a bit of a joke. They really are just a normal E30 with body kit. There is nothing special about them outside of aesthetics, some old crap shocks and an LSD. For $30k you can have so much more fun in an E30.

E39 M5 is the last benchmark to reference. There isn't a new equivalent.

Nice interior, but it doesn't make it double the price of a regular 530i. 174,000ks isn't exactly going to attract buyers either.. Can pick up 530i E39s quite easily for 3-5k in good condition. Might have been worth that a few years ago, but I can't see it getting close to that these days. If it was manual, that would certainly make more sense.. but yeah... tiptronic.

I agree but that only really applies to 90+ models imo. The M50 was the starting point. I know Germans like their recycled plastics but its usually BMW (and probably VAG too) that are notorious for failures. Not sure when BMW started using recycled content it but i'm sure like most things the quality of it has decreased over time, whilst the amount used has increased.

I can't really disagree, I am an auto Electrian by trade and I am on my 5th BMW. I think they are great to drive, they make me feel good when I am in them and they have style and performance, but they are not reliable in comparison to say a Japanese car. Part of it is the amount of plastic used in the engine and it's ancillaries and perhaps some of it is German obsession with achieving an engineering goal that ignores engine or engine ancillary longetivity.
