2 pointsThese turned up from Pelican today. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?p=8062170?utm_source=pelican_bmwnewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20140514 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?p=8061000?utm_source=pelican_bmwnewsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=20140514

2 pointsAny difference is offset by added complexity\maintenance of E60. Get a motorcycle if you want to save on gas, maintenance and have something fun. You Don't have to worry about sitting in traffic either.

2 pointsHaven't updated this in a while - some new bits have arrived & been installed New carbon fiber steering wheel trim. Fitting it was a bit tricky, with the torx screws located behind the airbag assembly. Can do a separate write-up on this if you need. Replaced fog lights with projectors and new housings. Old vs. new: Added a set of brake duct surrounds The purists are going to hate this one. Added new black corner lights

1 pointFinally decided to move on from my 340i project, due to moving overseas for work. Also having another project as well has meant this one hasn't had any love in a while. I drove it about five times, maybe 100km all up, since it never made it all the way to cert stage (kept changing things lol). I am looking to sell this as a package of everything, or if there's stuff you'd like for your car then let me know and I might split it up. 79 e21 shell. I started cutting the rear floor out to raise the rear end up, so there's sheetmetal missing. Best this be for someone who wants to either maybe space frame it, or maybe as a parts shell for rust repairs to their car. engine bay has been modified/shaved and room made for a larger radiator. steering column has been shifted over to fit the v8. rear end has been shaved for a custom look (looked rad way back when i did it, at the time) $500 engine: Lexus 1uz. I have a Link that's been tuned for it in this car, which made 193kw at the hubs. (Andre Simon, Speedtech). gearbox: custom adapted w57 with hydraulic release bearing and custom clutch. $3k ono. driveline: custom driveshaft to r200 diff in modified e21 rear subframe. custom axles, custom 5 stud hubs, custom brakes etc. front end: custom 5 stud hubs, set up with 540i disks (13") and wilwood 4 pot billet callipers $1500 (calipers alone I think were over a grand). tein front coilovers adapted to the e21 struts (shocks need rebuild). M5 replica wheels, 17x8 et20 and basically un-used low profile tyres. $800 ono. 5x120. There's probably more to it, so will add more as I think of things dyno video: there's some other videos on my channel, from when it was running. the shiny/polished bits don't come with the car/engine but i may sell them if the offer is right. 1 pointTo be honest, youre probably better sticking with the E39 if you are trying to save money - unless there is a compelling reason to ditch it. Any savings in fuel economy are going to be minimal compared to the additional capital outlay to step up for a newer car or a diesel. The E39 is a much larger car than the Mazda / Subie / Golf. Not a fault per se, but worth noting if you need a large car. Of all the options mentionned, my personal suggestion would be the mk5 or mk6 golf. They are a very well thought out car - much more so than any BMW Ive owned. They drive really well, are really zippy in traffic and have plenty of safety features - but can be $$$ to get into.

1 pointWe were thinking about running something similar. But yea, sitting in the realms of professional events territory. I have run such events successfully in the past and have the contacts to pull it off. Its just a time thing, and getting a solid crew of people behind me to get it underway.
-
1 pointNone of you know whats involved at all. The inspection of the vehicle for a cert can take half an hour - 2 hours. The written report and documentation for the half hour- 2 hour inspection can take at least 1-2 hours to complete , edit and process.

1 pointI think people in NZ have the mentality that they must have either a mint original car or heavily modded car to turn up to these meets. Sure they are the head turners and people will leave talking about them, but its not just about the cars which I think gets lost.
-
1 pointit really depends on where you are trying to save. A later model car will have significantly cheaper running costs being a more modern car. But more expensive to buy. Older, more maintenance but cheaper to buy. I general if I was doing lots of km i'd be in some late model jappa or golf.
-
1 pointCould always look at a 530D. Around 10L/100kms in heavy traffic. 6.1-6.8L/100KM's on the open road. I have an 05 530D E60. Driving from Chch I got just over 1100kms to a tank. Including a bit of spirited driving over the hill to Masterton. There is the extra cost of RUC. But in reality you are still paying quite a bit less. And the E60 will cost you no more than an E39. They are comparable for maintenance costs. They are not slow either. Modern Diesels are pretty impressive. However you can probably pick up some Jap car with less KM's on the clock for the same price.

1 pointWish we had events like that. Bimmerfest was a week or two back also. Huge numbers attend from all over the country. We have trouble getting people to cross the harbor bridge :S

1 pointFair enough! Not interested in the led taillights? How about fluffy dice and a sheepskin seatcover?

1 pointI think the problem is identified in this cryptic comment... 1991 325iS = Evo2 = E30 1992 325iS = E36 I think he has the wrong year for the car, therefore totally the wrong series. Who wants to give him the good news? On the upside it is actually a 325iS - for what that is actually worth!! Close, but fail.
-
1 pointOn that note, total time on Bonnet, Boot and half of roof is sitting around 10-12 hours

1 point@Jason, the red one in Taupo is the sister to my one - less bling all round, and different rear end but essentially similar. Packs a 2.8 instead as well. For my personal home use, Mequiars is what I use, but for serious detailing, I head on over and get it done by Attention To Detail (Sam with Uforia) would rather do it with him, than doing it wrong. Was using the detailer/Quick wax to clear off any crap before meet, had just washed. Car had more chrome bling orginally.. Handles changed to blue as were chrome. I love my window trim

1 pointHaha I've seen worse. This was from this morning in traffic. Normally average around 16-16.5 tho, this is a fresh reset.

1 pointThe m52 has other things done to it. But I can't see why a standard 318 with a m52 in it wouldn't pass cert. Any mongol can get in a car drunk and do 200kph and kill people, it doesn't have to be modified to do that. The media will report any story and sensationalise it. Obviously the Honda didn't have a cert, how is making car modifications harder for the people who want to do things legally going to help? Its like making tougher gun control laws..... The criminals already have illegal guns with the current laws.... The country is run by f**kwits.

1 pointGot a quote from Jason at Macweld so far. Looks like it'll be cheaper than replacing them so I reckon I'll get them fixed. Thanks guys
