Jesus Toby you sound like you would be one of those really annoying c@nts at a party that goes around wanking on about all the things he owns. Anyone who signs a forum post with their full name and what they have studied is ,in my opinion, the highest form of douche. We normally throw these people in the pool or rub our nuts in their mouths when they pass out on the couch after drinking three beers. You remind me actually of a guy I went to school with, sh*t he got a lot of different men's testicles smeared on his face over the years. Congrats, you can afford to buy a sub 20k car, $20k is not a lot of money these days fella and anyone can walk into the bank and get a 20k loan. I know for a fact that half the people on this forum are much more "successful" than you are and don't even have any followers on facebook! I can't exaggerate enough how badly I hope we never meet in person. Thread locked

Hey Guys, Just thought I would let you know about the great service I got from this guy. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Members/Listings.aspx?member=1969570 His name is Kerry and he has repaired my instrument cluster and mid for my E38.My mid was doing the usual pixels are gone and it was a get around to it thing. The cluster lights on the second row stopped functioning and then the stepper motor on the speedo failed showing a maximum speed of 40km so I had to have something done. Auto sparky told me it would be 4 weeks and around $800.00 - $1000.00 for the repairs. I found him on Trademe and after a quick chat I boxed it all up and sent it to be repaired. The service has been excellent, he has sent me pictures showing the issues within the units, progress images as they have been repaired, and the completed repair images. The turn around has been 4 DAYS! Including overnight couriers in both directions! The repairs completed were New mid led and bulbs, New resistors in instrument cluster lighting circuit, All stepper motors replaced in the instrument cluster, 3 new bulbs in instrument cluster. Total cost including shipping was $360.00 with a 12 month warranty If you need some work done on this part of your car I thoroughly recommend talking to him. He is based in Christchurch. Pm me if you want his contact details. Cheers

it'd be fine, the B28 is hardly a powerhouse in the first place. Have some mechanical sympathy and itll keep going.

Weird effect on some of those boards. PO must have randomly stained some of them. Love the look of newly finished timber.

Definitely recommend Michelin PSS. So much grip! Cheapest outfit in AKL I found was Discount tyres in Grey Lynn, they can import them in for you.

yeah, i dont know the ratio of my old 323i diff, but when i converted it to manual using 318i stuff it was great around town but on the open road it was a pain pulling over 3000rpm at 100kph. Was always left wanting a 6th gear. In saying that my M3 pulls about 3000rpm (just below i think) at 100kph and its all good. I wouldnt worry too much about which box you use, just make sure the rest of the hardware (drive shaft, shifter etc) are all suitable for both your engine (4 and 6 cylinder use different hardware) and the gearbox you use.

Just don't put shocks in it. They won't do anything anyway, much like the springs.

By the way, in case it wasn't clear. In keeping with the spirit of how all this originated in the usa and the knowledge being shared and open source, I am happy to offer these conversions and modifications for members for no money exchanged, except for the cost of the headers themselves (I have to buy these from abroad and they aren't cheap given how small they are - roughly $10 a set after shipping is taken into account). If you want this done on an original DME, then it will be on the basis of all risks and no responsibility (I will however take a full dump of your DME over OBD before proceeding of course just in case and more than happy to lend a tester DME for you to get a sense of what it will be like. As for full CSL DME conversions ... Unfortunately these cost a bit more to do and I am not 100% confident with the H bridge soldering yet as it is heat sunken and I need better tooling for it really (working on it) - so any CSL conversions on HP DMEs will be H bridgeless until I have had more pratice. (Intake flapper codes will be removed for this purpose) NB to get the most out of the CSL DME upgrade you'll need a few more bits and pieces and convert to MAP sensor and the airbox of course, otherwise kind of pointless.

Oh yea! Forgot about that trick. Maybe it was on a silly e46 where et40 is decent

If you can afford it, just do Michelins. tirerack.com. Everything else is pretty much false economy and compromise (If you get the proper rating for your cars weight).

And rear mount the faces to the rim for starters - surprised this wasn't done in the refurb... (IIRC that'll give you an ET of 29-ish)

Happy to help out Nick ... My suggestion to Ray and anyone wanting this done is to grab a spare mss54 or mss54hp and I'll mod the spare dme and put all the original dme stuff on it creating a clone ... That way you can put whatever you want on it and not be worried about damaging an original dme. I can wipe the ISN table related to ews also so it can be re-sync'd. If you ever put the original dme back in it can be resync'd also. Just tested the clone csl dme again and and H bridge driver ... Flapper works like the real deal : ) I also have everything to create a csl engine clone now ... Anyone wanna volunteer to be my test bed?? Haha ... Unfortunately you don't get to keep the stuff afterwards : )

Had a weak moment and offered my spare S62 for this dilemma ($6000).Nothing came of it. Thankfully that generous offer passed otherwise I`d be kicking myself when the time comes to use it in another Hellbm Project.

^^^^ Yep to above. On that note - I go out to many "flooded" cars on AA call outs. Almost all have occured when a car has been started, backed out of garage & turned off to to wash it, started, returned to garage & turned off. Next day.... no go. An explanation to the member of the reasons for & they usually get the picture. An absolute pet hate of mine is to start & stop a cold engine.
