Don't even consider one of these pieces of sh*t. They recycle oil and water all over our high ways , your garage, your drive way and my workshop for our grandchildren to acknowledge that BMW was into recycling. Maybe BMW think all this sh*t going into our drains and storm water canals is one of the appropriate ways to do this Go for a E46 or E90 6 cylinder version

Hi all. Great to be a part of the bmw universe. Just picked up an 89 320i and have grand plans to maintain its original state with the exception of a few stereo upgrades and something to help its fuel economy ... Possibly not possible ??? Has factory fitted m-tech kit though I can't see any of the associated performance upgrades associated with the m badge. Will be getting some scratch removal and paint work done so will hopefully be able to track progress on here. Cheers JP

Having a "current WOF" doesn't gaurantee an insurance payout. It's the responsibility of the owner/driver to ensure the vehicle is up to a warrantable standard at all times.

keep me in the loop on this one. I haven't been north of Auckland in 15 years. Sounds like a great roadtrip.

Would you be able to use black text in future as on mobile the background is white so we can't read anything. This is why Gaz can't see any text. Cool project though.

Lol I can see that bud. I should just chuck them on trademe but thought I'd see if anyone on here wants them because it's a shame if someone who isn't from here got em so cheap

^ to add to above: Use 9v not 12v Use brake cleaner and compressed air Clean from the 'end' out through the 'side' at first, reverse when there's no blockage You need to use both brake cleaner and air when the solenoid is open (charged) Clean, clean, clean = click!, click!, click! (rather than duh, duh, duh). Middle pin on connector is (-) (shared ground) outside pins are (+) (one for each solenoid) Check the circuit boards for dry solder, test impedance with multimeter Discard the brown plastic/gauze filters entirely (once the gauze is gone what's the plastic going to do?)

not to blow my own whistle, but theres info in my thread on how i tested and cleaned my solenoids. http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/49996-diy-s50b30-vanos-rebuild-info/

looking good. Hate that orange crap that some of the evos had. Apparently it was to reduce chances of leaks, and aligns well with BMWs official stance of vanos not being serviceable. Dont forget to use the M5 O-Rings on the solenoids. PS. My vanos rebuild thread discusses the solenoids being the same as the S62 M5 engine

Welcome! Sad to say, it will always eat all the petrol

Whilst I still don't have all of the parts for my VANOS re-rebuild I've made significant progress. All of the solenoids have been cleaned and tested and 100% working which is great. I was not sure of how clean/test them actually because there's not a lot of info out there when I was searching for E36/S50 VANOS topics. A chance discussion with Martin (BreakMyWindow) at the Auckland meet on Sunday helped me establish that the E36 and E39 M's use the same solenoids and the M5 lads have truck-loads of info on this topic. Using this info I was able to recover mine to factory form, and boy were they a long way away from that! One of my exhaust solenoids was almost totally blocked, the other was mostly blocked and even on the intake side they were bad. Now I have a reassuring 'click' from each. Feel free to reply here if you want more detail. Solenoids had ingested most of the "filter" - these will be discarded entirely. And this is on the intake (cooler) side, the exhaust ones had no gauze (orange stuff) left at all. Have really cleaned up the solenoid pockets as well, from this: To this: Just need some o-rings now and I'll be good to go!

Tuned into these guys on the weekend. Had a good laugh. Something that I have never done before whilst watching cricket. Ever. http://www.iheart.com/live/alternative-comntry-collective-6693/ Be warned. It is pretty rough. Leigh Heart was hammered drunk and hungover. There was lots of great nick names given to players. Talks about how the Aussie uniforms look like glow in the dark condoms. Breastfeeding talks. Every poor ginger kid in the crowd was found and hassled. A few nicknames I remember. Cumburger ginger headed orphan Steven Hawkings The Hairy Javelin Freddy Mercury

I have a very reliable source in Europe for them. Early on I used random sellers & got burnt a few times with either faulty units or sh*t packaging/drop kicked around the world & arriving damaged.

$1 reserve it. If it's marketed right, good quality photos, popular TM browsing time when the auction ends and it still sells for fuck all. It was only worth fuck all.
