Good to see a few Bimmers at the Bayswater Auto Show yesterday. They decided to go ahead despite the TC warnings and it was a good decision. The whole event was done and dusted with nary a spot of rain, just a bit of a breeze. We managed to get six 8ers there - not bad but it's a pity we didn't manage to get some of the more colourful ones around (Neil's Dakar 840 and Wayne's Atlantis 840 spring to mine!). Good to see a few from the Euro Car Club there too. A couple of pics from the day and more here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/97854197@N07/sets/72157650955833509/ Peter Farmiloe's 850csi, 'Stella' leading the charge. Stella was born at Dingolfing exactly 21 years ago yesterday and has barely reached 30,000kms. Fair to say she's mint. I've also heard she may be up for sale soon... Might be time to remortgage the house! The little girl in this pic is completely mesmerised by the beauty and cleanliness of my engine bay. She has good taste. 5, 6, 8... Just missing a 7. Amber's UK rust bucket. Pretty happy with how the Kaiser is looking now... Could almost (but not quite) argue she doesn't need the csi bodykit I've got in the shed. Yes. You can see the standard diffuser that was removed on mine to make way for a tow bar... But I do prefer the csi diffuser...

Took the old girl out for a spin last night, as you do in potential cyclone weather. Complete awe of the design and capabilities of this vehicle. Headed over the harbour bridge; didn't even feel the wind as we headed over it. I find the Schnitzer has a bit of fun when it finds contact with Hydroplanes, the M3 just acted like it was plain stretch of road. No mean grunts as you hit them. Unfortunately had to test the ABS system due to complete idiot with no license crossing my path and almost wiping out bus + Taxi + Me. Can confirm it works. All in all good late night cyclone drive. Rust bucket held up well hahahaha

I own cars of all 4 main systems currently available to the mass market - full three pedal 6 speed manual - SMG2 automated 6 speed - Tiptronic 6 speed auto - 7 speed DSG wet clutch And to be honest each system has its own purpose and does them pretty well. The arguments being thrown up are as valid as saying Blondes are better in bed than Brunettes, but none are better than your sexy little Thai hooker. Drive whatever floats your boat - not one system is perfect, bar the F1 seamless shift dog boxes - I'll have that over any manual any day.

On paper the 12 seems more impressive but in reality the M60 V8 is far more alluring, a more modern dohc 32v design, unique lovely sound, I do have a soft spot for the induction noise they make. Fabulous!

Plus... 12 is better than 8 for the girls.

Id rather make a stupid request knowing that it wont happen and have a chuckle.

Teach you how to drive properly? Where do you pull this rubbish from. It is not hard how to figure out how to push a clutch pedal down. So daily driving would be 99% and track driving 1%. Make sure the daily part is comfortable. Last thing you want it a shitty old manual driving in Auckland Traffic.

There are some things that will be different inside, but may not be a major. Ideally it should be coded to avoid issues in the future. You should have the tamper dot up next to the milage display too, because the VINs in the clusters don't match. What changes, depands on high/low OBC too. I'm assuming your "new" cluster had lower milage than the original.

Time to lock thread and throw away the key? Once again the "manual is superior to everything else" brigade has ruined a thread.

I dunno... There are worse things around - I offered to get her a V8 Caprice or Statesman, but she said NO WAY - they're REALLY ugly. so they must be somewhere between them, and the E39 - coz she's OK with that.

Not sure about the DCT, but in the 991 GT3, you can "clutch kick" the PDK by pulling on both paddles at once.

Whilst I can see the point that driving an auto can lead to an over-all lower level of attentiveness and involvement from the driver, I can't say that is the be all and end all. If you want involvement from a drive get an old, 1950s car and hustle that along, poor tyres, poor brakes and lack of power grabs your attention straight away! Using a sequential on the track means you can concentrate on the things that really matter, such as braking point, turn in (both hands balanced on the wheel for better feel) and throttle control. There is a reason why F1, FIA GTs, V8 Supercars, WRC, etc all run sequential boxes. The increased speed is not just from the milliseconds saved per shift. M3 V8 DCT would be a great road and track car, only thing better would be an M4 I6 Turbo DCT if I could afford to choose.

Sounds like they were insured by State. Haha. Said it before on this forum a while back. But we once called them to inform them I had put a better head unit in my car. The said I had breached the contract and my insurance was terminated. All I wanted was to re-evaluate my policy. Was happy to pay more. 45mins later they had lost 3 more cars as my family ditched them.

I hear you Graham... Why would you consider driving a car you have to unlock yourself with a remote button? Imagine, over the car's lifetime that probably costs you 9 or 10 minutes. Nightmare!!!!! Imagine if you had to unlock it with the key!! F*ck that... Only idiots use keys. SO.MUCH.TIME.WASTED.
