3 pointsI know I am risking a death threat here Ash but do you have a picture of the item you are talking about. I don't think I have seen them.
-
2 pointsHey mate I moved this to the off topic section. Please don't send me death threats or start a blog about me. Agree. Absolutely feral.

2 pointsClarkson, May and Hammond are about to sign a multi year, multi millions contract to produce a show for a online provider. It's actually worked out quite well if you think about it. Top Gear lives on. It may or may not be good. We still get the three idiots. win, win.

2 pointspeople who ask on trademe "whats your reason for selling?" firstly, its none of your business why im selling it secondly, what do you expect to hear? "im selling it because theres a problem with it but im trying to rip you off so ill just say i got it as a gift so no warranty implied" i mean if you ask anyone that, they will say because i dont need it anymore, upgraded, etc etc how does that help in your decision making in making the purchase? i dont get it..

2 pointsWhat sort of budget do you have for an ecu? If learning is the most important part about the ecu get a megasquirt. To be more specific get a ms1v3. They are cheap, you will run into problems that'll take you to distant parts of the internet. It'll really help your problem solving ability as well. And finally you can upgrade it to a ms2 or ms3. Another cheaper and more challenging option is speeduino. It is an arduino based ecu that uses the same tuning soft ware as ms(tunerstudio). A link g4 atom is a pretty cheap locally supported option (or I've got a link g4 extreme for sale for a little bit more). If your looking at a haltech ecu you should also check out life ecus. But at this stage you're looking at quite a good chunk of money. If you want to spend more I can continue. I've only had experience with early and g4 links and megasquirt ecus, everything else is just going off features and online reputation

2 pointsManaged to find out a bit more myself. Firstly, the dealer has agreed to have a DCT service performed for me before purchase, he tells me it costs over $1000. New fluid and filter done by a BMW specialist (think he's sending it to Team McMillan but haven't confirmed). Found a couple of second hand DCT transmissions online, there's one on Ebay for 3.5k. So having an Autosure warranty that covers up to 5k should keep me safe enough even if I do have total failure. Still would love to hear comments from some more knowledgeable people, especially any of the mechanics around here who might have actual experience. Allycat, you're right. I've been keeping an eye on Trademe for months and DCTs aren't too common. I've scored a 2010 MSport Coupe, pending inspection and test drive though.

2 pointsReminds me of this last week. They mistook the stairs for a driveway. Which was 5m to the right. They went up a decent curb to get there. Was trying to make it to the Chinese supermarket.

2 points^ I can follow his thinking though - " That guy loves his car so he won't ding mine..."

2 pointsBuy a megasqurt system and have fun. It's a steep learning curve but if I could do it, anyone can. Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointDue to having too many cars my E36 Coupe is up for sale. Its a 93 325i NZ new 131 kms. I have spent a bit on it to get it where it is and this is what has been done: New Koni front struts with lowered springs. Strut tower reinforcement plates. New Front Control arms. Powerflex FCAB bushes M3 type with extra castor. Bilstein Rear shocks with lowered springs and Nolathane spring pads. New Shock mounts with reinforcement plates. Front Brakes are E46 328i with new Brembo 300mm rotors and new TRW pads. Rear are E46 328i vented. All brake lines are braided. The brakes are great, feel power and modulation are all tops. M Sport front sway bay with nolathane bushes. New tie rods New spotlights New Second hand two tone grey leather Interior with Electric M sport seat conversion. Door cars replaced front and rear (Mint) In Fact the whole interior is very tidy. Its an Auto but being NZ New it runs the ZF box rather than the Jatco and its shifts very nicely. The alloys are BMW marked so not repos. they may be forged as they seem quite light. The motor runs nicely revs cleanly with the vanos change noticeable so I can only assume the seals have been done at some stage. The car drives very nicely and handles better than I expected. This is a reluctant sale. Negatives: The front nose cone has a dent that is rusting, its needs a repair repaint or replacement. There is a scrape over the rear drivers side wheel arch and the rear spoiler has a few cracks. As you would expect it has a few minor stone chips. I would like $4000

1 pointSooooo. The man who interviewed Clarkson above, the white Ferrari lover is the new host of Top Gear. Has anyone seen what the other two are doing? Are they joining him? I don't know too much about Chris Evans but from what I've seen, he's in a similar vein to Clarkson in terms of being outspoken, but perhaps a little more in-touch.

1 pointWhat did the new key sting you Lucan? I nearly lost my only coded one at the Rugby club the other night and really need to get one before that dick Murphy and his stupid law hit me.

1 pointYeah I think they make the car, BMW have some of the best wheel designs ever.

1 pointI just had a look at the Haltech Elite for the first time. I eyeballed the stats vs what I've been focused on (Link) and other than having CAN which can talk to the car they look really similar. And the Haltech is $$$ compared to the Link (G4+ Xtreme), especially with the looms ... but ... ... I get the feeling my view reflects my limited knowledge. I guess what I am saying is that choosing an ECU for a complicated engine must be complicated. And that's before you even try and tune it. Arriving at an optimal tune for variable cams must take ages.

1 point* cant stand those Mercedes V12 badges on these, there are so many E32s and E38s around that have them, im starting to think its not just coincedence and BMW NZ might have actually brought and fitted them from new. The genuine BMW V12 badge is italicised to match the 750i BMW: Merc: Edit: having said that, if the Merc one pulls your rip chord, then let me know because i have a set here lol
-
1 pointI quite like the look of the new Haltec systems ... Seems very well put together / supported. One day I might even run the s50 off the new elite.

1 pointHe was sitting in it waiting for his wife so we wound down our windows and had a chat..lol His car was mint. And my initial thought when I saw another car parked that close was "FFS" then when I realised what it was I was thinking "Well, thats ok then". Ha ha.

1 pointCome on, that's pretty trivial isn't it? Do you call the toilet a ' white porcelain excrement collector' so you can get a better understanding of what it is so you can model your poo properly in it? Let's get back to talking about learning how to tune.
-
1 pointThat would learn you a fair bit. The deep end has always been my favourite way to learn, for better or worse ahem....

1 pointGetting my tonsils out, looking at them in the jar thinking how much they look like mussels..... ..... The hospital lunch was mussel fritters I don't like mussels

1 pointHeard of both they just intercept the load signal, Unichip is sold by licence for each unit ( last i checked ) All i do is forced induction and if you want good control over the big bang theory then full stand alone ecu is best, people get scared of what is real a black art for tuning. Thats not putting you off, each tuner has his strong areas thus they choose to stick to one brand of car or ecu, if you really want to learn go Haltech even the entry level unit the Sprint 500 ( i run one in my E36 turbo ) great unit great price and lots of back up, very easy platform to work with it also decodes the 60-2 BMW trigger which very few can. Main issue is the reluctor voltage output can be as high as 30v which is a pain for the ecu thankfully Haltech allow you to clamp the signal, i found 1.7v works a treat, you can also code in the stock BMW sensors and calibrate or pick one from the menu and use other brands already supported, i tune in VE not many can but im sure youll learn much. Word of advise, regardless what certain tuning schools tell you tuning is a black art yes you can do certain calc to a certain deg but if the calculator says you can run x amount of fuel and x amount of timing and the car says no! Then the motor decides what your going to get not the calculator no matter how smart the tuner thinks he is or that Big Bang theory will soon be a reality, some of these so called tuners on line are giving people a loaded gun they have no idea what your dealing with and itll end in tears.

1 pointI prefer the E32, it's rawer in the flesh, but I admire the E38, but the E32 pulls more heart strings, in the same way I prefer the E34 to the look of any E39. The E39 may be better, could be a lot better even, but I am only talking about looks, and the twin headlights and raw appeal is greater, the E39 and E38 were better cars, but were softened I think in the looks dept relative to their forbearers. You could still get a manual E32 3.5 and that's awesome, E38, not so much.

1 pointDon't get me wrong, I am normally the guy selling the car at 100,000km, and buyers car be a pain in the arse. I literally told one guy to f**k off out of my garage and go to the nearest "new car" dealership if he wants a brand new car after he started pointing out small blemishes on a car that was 4 years old and one third the cost of a new one. Its like hear you go, have my car I have lost $40,000 and cleaned every weekend for the past 4 years, I am sorry I didn't save it for you, perhaps I shouldn't have driven it and brought some seat covers for the times I just sat in and had a cry wank waiting to sell it to you for next to nothing... oh, and BTW, yes, I did do its 100,000km cam belt service for you, that cost me $2,400... can I throw in a box of beer and a reach around, maybe I could service your less than satisfied looking wife while we are at it. So im not being a pedantic buyer, its just frustrating dealing with a lot of these "second owners" who are trying to fob off sh*t they have not spent a dollar on other than some M badges and fake carbon fibre. Oh. Did I mention I am looking at a carrier in car sales?? Can I interest you in a mocha-chino sir?

1 pointWhen people list a 7k car and the excuse is "selling to buy first home". Where? Invercargill? Also, when people use the excuse "wife is making me sell it" . Be a man for f**k sake.
