I went the other way, e46 to e39, and there is a noticeable difference in the way they handle, performance wise, I didn't think there was much difference but they where about 6 months apart. All depends on what you want the e46 for. The e46 sport seats definitely hold you in better.

Ya. The dent on the door is very subtle - so not a major on that side, but will defo need a repaint. Cheap option would be to get new black trim, do quick dent repair to straighten out the small door dent, and fill paint scratches with filler paint. But when it comes to panel/paint I don't tend to take the cheap option :<

Hey everyone, Yesterday I flew down to Wellington to collect my 1999 BMW M5. Before heading on my way back to Auckland, I caught up with Aaron "str8_6" to grab a few pictures of our matching M5's. I've just started a project thread which I'll update in due course.

I'm having thoughts of selling my E39 and replacing it with an E36 330Ci, I know both of these cars have the same engine, but I like the idea of having the smaller car, also E46 330ci's are getting old so there's a few around for a good price. Is the E46 much less refined than the 5 series? are the sport seats in the E46's better bolstered than the E39 Sport seats? Will I even notice an increase in performance? Will the E46 have better handling? (To me the E39's handling is already pretty good).

Wheels have arrived. Rears are 11.5 x 18 -67. Looks like we have stuffed up on the fronts and the offset is 25mm too much. Mocked up the tyres for the front to get a better idea and am much happier with that. Need to order some new fronts, but we can now progress with the rear bodywork whilst the rims are made and shipped.

Insurance companies are funny like that. They made more of a big deal about when I put my 15" BBS weaves on there. bout conversions and certs. The above is correct as Will has said. We can just leave it at that... unless you want to buy it Andy? Cheers Raerae

I might be able to get a family member to help if you pay for gas and make it worth their while (they are in Hamilton)

A conversion like this requires a cert even if it is using all OEM parts unfortunately due to the power increase and the fact that the motor is totally different to the original motor (and a few other things..). Getting a WOF will not be a problem as the WOF officer's task is to make sure it is roadworthy and with no modified parts like mountings, suspension etc. They do not care if the motor suddenly has 2 more cylinders..Much like they will not fail you for having illegal numberplates as they do not affect roadworthiness. If you have an accident the insurer is very unlikely to pay out, and, if stopped in a police checkpoint, you will stickered if they realise you have 6 cylinders instead of four. When I did my m52 conversion in my 325 many years ago now, I got a WOF as everything looked/was OEM. My cert guy told me to do this before I brought it to him as then he would know if there were any issues apart from the conversion. Made his job much easier and cheaper as he did not have to go through the car with a fine toothcomb checking every component.

Hi Bimmersport, Yesterday I took ownership of a very special //M - The E39 M5. It was a rather irrational purchase, though I couldn't be happier in hindsight. I picked the car up in Wellington. It's done 150,000kms and the previous owner had it since 37,000kms with full service history. I plan to keep this car long-term and no major plans aside from putting on facelift goodies + muffler delete. ** A big thanks to Martin (BreakMyWindow) and Ray @ HellBM for all the help and advice! Catching up with another Avus Blue owner on the way up: Sitting at home next to the E46:

Happened to me today. A Manhiem auction and whoever was bidding against me put a bid on as the hammer fell. The auctioneer removed that bid and I won. And it was a steal.
