you feeling the E30 itch after hanging out with 5 of them today?? Been on that lot for over a year, i have seen it a bunch of times, never bothered to pull over and look though, the number in the window tells me all i need to know. worth Half that if its a 325i manual. Will also give a set of black grills 100% free of charge to anyone that buys it so i never have to see it like that again.

I've realised I haven't quite made it clear what I'm actually doing lol. Instead of fixing the flywheel like a normal person I decided to upgrade the motronic version. This quickly turned into go big or go home and I ended up buying a motronic 3.1 (m50 non vanos) loom and ECU/DME for the same price as a motronic 1.1/1.3 loom. This gives me a MAF instead of an AFM, sequential fuel injection, COP and a much better system overall. Just a bit harder to install.

FFS paul went?!? Could have told me gees! My weekend was spent tidying up some e46 330i calipers and carriers, then swapping them into the e36. Pretty happy with how they look they are huge vs the 328i ones!

am i the only one curious to see how long the trans lasts? Its costing nothing but fluids, filter, time and pain, so not a huge deal of harm to try.

NATHAN !!!....... call it a day.... It's now a parts car or donor . The engine has issues and the transmission is toast. Even if it was running properly it's only worth $5,000 on a good day
  14. 1 point
That transmission is now toast without a rebuild, including the torque converter which also has a lock up clutch in it

Yeah it sucks the only other e21 I've ever seen in person other than my own is Murry Fullertons yellow parts car in papakura. I really like this colour I wanted to respray with a dark candy red but I think this colour is really growing on me, not too many cars this colour either. I'd be really keen to see yours. Haha I have an oldschool account for the wagon too but the last time tried figuring out how to drive the website was about a year ago haha, I'll give it a go again soon when the e21 stops being so needy towards me

Holy sh*t this is embarrassing (especially coming from an electrical background) I checked the car again yesterday and discovered actually WAS a fuse in the fusebox, it had only a hairline crack in it, small enough that the multimeter could read no fault, and produced voltage just enough to get the other side of the fuse but not enough to get through the circuit properly, replaced and done!! Everything working correctly now. The fuse says its only for the stop lights and radio but in fact does supply the rev counter and interior lights. Never had this happen before but all is well!

Ok, so yesterday we pulled the transmission, and what a mission. We pulled the exhaust, heat sheild, and driveshaft. Had to disconnect some of the rear subframe mounting to get the driveshaft off the diff, and then discovered that it just disconnects at the back of the transmission. Some of the bellhousing bolts were really hard to access, especially when I dont have a workshop pit or a lift in my backyard. Anyway eventually got the transmission out with the help of Conor from the forums. He took some pics so hopefully he will put some up on this thread. The transmission was a milkshake inside. We flushed it by hand with transmission fluid twice, but we will do it again a few more times before it goes back in the car with its new filter and sump gasket. The torgue converter will get the same treatment. I degreased and waterblasted everything that we removed (not inside the trans or torque converter obviously), and the entire underbody of the car. Today I replace the fuel filter and the engine sump gasket as part of regular mantenance I had planned. I will also replace the short fuel hoses on the fuel filter, and do an engine oil and filter change. All the cooling system has been completely dismantled and flushed. Even so, I will run a radiator flush through it anyways once it is back together. All the suspension bushings, mountings, and the rubber donut on the back of the transmission looked in good condition - is there anything else I should change while I'm under there? Hopefully the transmission lasts long enough for me to save up for a replacement. Money is very tight so I will be selling the bits off my parts car, including the engine and box, so if anybody wants to help out by buying some parts let me know. I think I will explore using a seperate oil cooler to prevent this headache happening again - can anyone give advice on where/how to mount it, what one to buy, and what fittings to use? Thanks to all the advice and support.

yeah, at least with the Coraddo its a sort after car that a serious inquirer would be calling about it anyways. pretty rare etc. Or maybe the guys missus says he has to sell the car but he don't want to lol

That's a cool video, I've always wondered If I could get a BMW box to bolt up to my M104. Spent quite some time forum trawling but most of the forums are US based where they seem to think autos are a gift from the gods. Do you know what ZF box they used? I can only imagine the sh*t I'd get from my BMW mate if I put one in, but it's better than paying an arm and a leg for a 16v Getrag box. I've also seen Skyline diffs used in 201/124's also as they just need the rear hat swapped out. E36 struts are used by a few guys on Stanceworks to go super low instead of forking out for adjustables. Can't use true coilovers due to the macpherson strut design but there's a few companies doing kits now that have adjustable plates on the spring and the strut. The 124's are brilliant, my wagon has done 334,000km and still feels solid. Had to replace the throttle body and engine harness due to the great design of eco junk wiring. The only worn out parts are the front seats, which could have been saved if the PO had looked after them. I've just given the interior a treatment of Leatherique, great stuff. I bet his 300E rode sweet with the new konis and springs! The 3.2/3.6 M104's are no slouch and can handle boost with ease, have a look at Turbobandit. You should definitely pick one up if you get the chance. There's a guy in Germany who turned his wagon into an E500 including full widebody using original 500 body cuts, E500 body kit, 5L M119 and the Recaro interior it looks insane.

The Historic Touring Cars (NZ) Association is developing this class for racing at Classic and Historic meetings in NZ. Touring Cars with period racing history are welcome to join our group and while the time line reflects the Wellington Street Race era this is by no means exclusive. PM me for further info. Next meeting is the Skope Historic meeting in Christchurch and features over 30 cars along with noted drivers of the period Jim Richards, Tony Longhurst and Gianfranco Brancatelli. 5 - 7 February. Then 19 - 21 February at Teretonga.

Here's a couple I found and theres a ton more with all the info you want from a quick google search. https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=bmw+e39+lowered&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=979&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiQs6v776zKAhUGnZQKHRSDA-QQsAQIGQ If your already scraping on driveways you probably don't want to go much lower. Then there's ride quality as well. The lower you go the harder it will get. You need to find a nice medium between looks and driveability. Nex Coilovers. FK Silverline coilovers

Hay man. Good to see another e21 on here. I want to see your car in the flesh. It's the same colour mine was factory and I'm wanting to know if I like it enough to do it again. The issue you have sounds like a fuse or earth issue . But you have checked all the fuses and I don't know of any more tucked awayany where . Get your jumper leads and run them from The negative bat terminal to the motor and the chassis and see if it makes a difference. And get a new battery. Jumping cars on a regular basi. Is risky .

what are you aiming to achieve? Are you looking to stay flat at 200kph on the curves of SH20? Provide convenient excuses as to why you can't carry passengers ("sorry. with my superlows I can't carry your fat ass in the back; it'll just rub out my tyres and hit my exhaust. you'll have to walk.")? Look for something TUV approved. At least that way you'll have something considered, test and approved by German engineers that it won't totally compromise the safety and practicality of your vehicle.

Swedes start 'practicing' driving at 16, with a full license available from 18. Median salaries are comparable - NZ ~$51000, Sweden ~$53000 (equivalent). Swedish income tax is 29%, but taxation is a combination of local and national taxes, so this is an approximation based on median salary. Even alcohol consumption isn't that different: NZ 10.9l per year, Sweden 9.2l per year. (Pure alcohol, aged 15+. Source: Wikipedia.) Let's face it. We're pretty crap over here.

your first decision from here is to make sure the E28 is the chassis you want to throw your coin at If its not, prepare the E28 for sale. If it is, M30 and manual from the E34 into it, following @Brents advice from above, he has done the swap before etc

I need to get my one back out of the garage again. It's only done 300kms since its last warrant and it's for it's next in a coupe of weeks.
