Nice round trip to New Plymouth and down to Hawera then back home. 700ks and a tank of gas, can't complain at all. Naki must breed E38s, spotted about 5 on the way round. The more and more I drive this car, the more I love it's open road style, pretty much 12 hours with stops and crap, but body still felt great getting out and drives so damn well, even through all the twisties of SH3. Left plenty behind and just does it effortlessly Transmission fluid and filter sitting waiting doing next weekend then we are all ready for a nice SI trip over Easter :)

I'd be reluctant to throw in the new age turbo engines. Keep those for the plastic E90s An Alpina B10 bi turbo replica would be much cooler for an E34

Fibreglass ones can or used to be purchased locally, Hans? used to do them but unsure if he does them now. The genuine ones you can order from Schmeidmann for about $220-$250 landed depending if you want to wait.

keen to keep an eye on this, developing a soft spot for E34's

I had one years ago, cheap and no frills motoring. I think mine was a bit iffy, had a shimmy with the hard top off, went away with it on... Not the greatest handling car in stock form, my twice as heavy active suspension soarer could run rings around one.

Clutch needs replacing, it's done over 260,000kms and getting tired, get rid of the Getrag lean, the LSD is a 2.79 so the new box will bring the ratios back to where i want them and the whole point of the project when i started it was to have the the new running gear in the older car...

They're a blast, one of the best handling cars of the era and just awesome in the twisties. I was stunned when I drove one for the first time, I was used to 4WD turbos - I had a 4G63 VR-4 and Evo IV at the time - and the MX5 was almost as capable as the Evo in the corners (albeit much slower). Needs strut tower bars front and rear and is very dependant on good shocks and bushings but all easy maintenance. Just be prepared to be called a gay hairdresser.

People who own them are happy - rear wheel drive and handles like a go kart. People who know people who own one give them endless sh!t

I like them. Simple, reliable, good fun. And there are zillions around, so parts are easy. Not so much fun when the roof leaks, it steams up when it's damp, and the heater stops working.

Do you come to Wellington as I have 6 speed S54 gear boxes and a 5 speed ZF with flywheels etc etc. I am around tomorrow 021 449 242. You can do the measurements yourself to get exactly what you need and see the options.

Quote "ZB # are incremental, and larger numbers are the newer files. 7615835 is the last Alpina B3s transmission FLASH that was released and has a direct impact on torque limiters. The Alpina FLASH is listed as an E90 N54B30ATL ECE FLASH and was released in 2010. It is the most recent N54 AT specific transmission FLASH that has been released for the GS19.11.0 transmission, again this is specific to the N54. All of the 760xxxx files were done in 2009. There are two older FLASHES you can try. 7603537 and 7603535... Both are E90 N54B30ATL ECE FLASHES. 7603527 is a FLASH for the E82 N54B30ATL and release in 2009, so I'm not sure how anyone made the assumption it was a 2011 sport flash. 7603541 is from an E89 N52B30OL. Not even an N54 transmission flash. 7601494 is also an E89 N52B30OL. Still not an N54 transmission flash. There are a lot of GKE215 ZB#'s you can play with. Not all were designed for making the power our cars make. I have to laugh when people without any knowledge of what they are talking about release old ZB#s as newer numbers as if they found something new. Depending on the power you are making, chances are you'll have torque limiters in higher gears or your clutch pack will slip because the line pressure isn't high enough"

The condition is pretty impressive. But that price is hilarious.
