I used a standard unmodified E30 crossmember to fit the ZF, this took away the "getrag lean" and i used the standard G240 shifter linkages and everything fit sweet... Driveshaft needed to be shortened 40mm but the universals needed replacing anyway so i'm just rebuilding the whole driveshaft...

Been fiddling with the e28 over the last few days to try and sort out the little things. Firstly trying to sort the idle and TPS. Thinking that the TPS may not be working, I took the one from my eta motor and swapped that on. Didn't test drive it and went straight to the meet on Sunday, then to a friend's after. The car didn't feel quite right and then after driving for a bit when I hit WOT it would cut out completely. Then it just started randomly cutting out. Turns out that the ETA TPS actually reads the opposite way, so when I was hitting WOT it would register idle and obviously cut out. Then I did some retesting and it seems that the original TPS does infact register idle, it's just that the stopper on the throttle body was adjusted to the max (to compensate for the ICV), that even with the TPS adjusted all the way, it wouldn't click to idle mode. Anyway, that one is back in now and car runs much better, but I still suspect that it doesn't register WOT, due to the fact that one, it get no ohm reading between the two pins, and when driving it doesn't quite feel like it. Secondly I discovered that the issue is not actually the ICV itself (thanks to Ben for testing it) but that all the pins are getting positive power. I don't imagine this is meant to be happening so there may be a wiring issue. Investigations to follow. Another issue that just came up last night after driving a bit is the clutch pedal started to get vibrations. Then, coincidentally after I gave a friend to test drive it, a terribly loud squealing noise started coming from the clutch area. It only happens when the clutch is being depressed. But now the vibrations seem to be gone. I suspect this is the throwout bearing. And I can't blame my friend, I was with him in the car and he didn't do anything I wouldn't have. Haha. Also, today I went from a hot air intake to a warm air intake. I will find a better solution later but it's better than before. Now, for some memorable moments from the swap: Ben wasn't a big fan of my radiator fan. Hahaha ha. Ha. Some late night shenanigans.

Btw that 4.8 x5 e70 is the lowest price is seen on sub 60,000 kms Closest 4.8 was an NZ new at $38k s few months back. Cheapest sd was around $40k with 75000 kms. I'm still looking for one but can't pull the trigger until one of the mk1 minis is gone ( wife's rules) ?

Came out of my e91 all parts are from a jap import which means jap nav and radio frequency. All in good working order. The monitor has a little bit of haze on the outside can hardly be seen when installed. Could be cleaned up with the right product. $350

I'm currently stripping (and cutting) a 1987 525e for parts for my 85 525e and 86 m535i. I don't really have enough space at home for all of the parts so I need to get rid of some. Once I've finished stripping it I'll post the excess parts, but in the mean time if there are parts you want just ask (as I also have spares from my other e28s). I will get pictures up either this evening or tomorrow (and prices, don't worry mods ) Some parts I know I will have excess of are: doors (various conditions) Shocks and hubs Maybe some glass

Time to move this along as I don't have the need for two cars. It has been in my family since import circa 2001. 171,XXX km. SOLD. Located in Auckland. The good: 5 Speed Manual - with Z3M shifter and ZHP knob. Full service 1,000km ago (170,000km). B&G Springs with Bilstein shocks - installed circa 160,000km. Style 68 staggered wheels on Bridgestone Potenza RE002/RE003 - approx. 5-7mm tread. Sony iPod stereo with Alpine Type S 6x9's in rear parcel tray - 6x9 adapters used so looks 100% OEM under standard BMW speaker covers. Current WOF/Rego. The not so good: Cloth door linings sagging. Bumper cracked on RHS corner at the bottom. The exterior of the car reflects that it is 22 years old i.e. not perfect. Best that you inspect to get a proper idea of the condition. PM for more details/pictures.

The sunroof drains block over time and the water will seep into the car. A easy fix with a bit of weed wacker nylon.

i will try once more.Dont hold back your abuse this time.If you have say 30 k to spend on an x5 and only 30 k.You can get a really nice spec dog for 30k but you cant get a nice 30 k diesel. So you buy the 30 k dog because you dont wnat an old or poverty pack diesel,Julian has figured this out already. You like your 30 k dog wihout the v8 background loop being played back through the stereo. The money you SAVED from buying the EQUIVALENT specced diesel will go towards the increased fuel bill.Dont bother replying

I used Redline D4 ATF in my ZF. That is the correct spec oil, I'd recommend it.

Take a chill pill bro - you've said your bit and knocking others' views in an immature way doesn't actually make yours any more right. I look forward to reading your detailed research report on the matter some point down the track I'm stepping out of this and I'll leave you to it .... find someone else to convince.

Hey Julian - sorry if I wasn't clear - I believe our diesel is fine - in fact I've always bought BP Ultimate petrol but now my local BP has dropped it and just does 95 - now the *premium* fuel they are offering is 'Ultimate Diesel'! As regards what to buy - as many others on here have said buy on condition - not age or mileage ; get an independent inspection done and cover your risk with a Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI) plan - ideally from Autosure/Vero.

Just flip the spacesavers around so that they have - offset . It worked when I was parting an e34, plus it gave it some mean dish

FWIW I run the Bilstein/Eibach B12 setup with Eibach swaybars on my E36 and love it. Factory compliance with even more stability and a lowered ride height. Perfect for me because I was never going to learn/test enough to extract value from an adjustable setup.

It's been a while since I've updated this thread, so here goes! Finally got the engine in and running with the help of a few mates and Ray at HellBM. Not without some hiccups along the way of course. Managed to make it to the end of year ECC meet. After driving here and home again we established that the poly mounts were over the top and decided to swap them out for rubber oem ones pronto. Next trip after was off to Hampton Downs to watch the One Hour Endurance race as part of the BMW Race Driver Series. A mighty set of scales appeared and we took this opportunity to weigh her for shits and giggles. A solid 1300kgs. Check our Keith's cheeky grin! I also established that the car could make a great tent! Up north we went to Waipu where we went camping. Not without a few problems along the way though... Overheating (ish). Thanks to Jibs who followed me back to the North Shore afterwards to make sure I got back without breaking down. New radiator hose fixed that issue. Then come Christmas holidays it was time to freshen up a few bits and pieces. Throw back to the 80s where the car finally got given a badge for the tailgate (thanks Lance - Merry Christmas) Uh oh... found a small spot of rust where the antenna is... Fixed/Cleaned up But still leaking?! Then we decided we needed to put the car to use.. what it was designed to do. Hello Hampton Downs here we come! Opened her up to see how she looked... Simon then found some sweet wheels for his race car... of course first they shall be test fitted on the Touring to see how it looks (still on their way from overseas - can't wait) Got the new springs in. Super Lows in the rear and 4cyl race series springs in the front... thoughts? The body has now clicked over the 360,000 km mark. Time to find out where this leak was coming from round the front roof area. Pulled out the headlining fearing the worst.... but pleasantly surprised to find no rust. Headlining has seen better days though! Next up, fog lights. Found some cheap very cracked ones. Found some plastic lens on the interwebs and fixed them up. Good as new. Uh oh... so this happened. Good person though for leaving a note. No sweat, prompted me to give the car a refresh. Time ti paint the bumper trimmings. The exhaust has been sitting wonky for some time so time to fix that up too. Now sits perfect with the correct brackets. Along the way we also got some nice interior throughout the last few months. Installed now and feels luxurious. Car attacked me however when installing... Also redid the side skirts, freshened them up... Found a minor imperfection just in time... Haven't got a decent picture since last weekend with the side skirts back on but here she is next to her younger but chubbier sister. Sourced a brand new OEM Sunroof panel from our friends at BMW NZ.... To be painted next week and also the rust fixed up. Once back I hope to get the headlining done ASAP as well as the car tinted. For any one who can help, I'm also after the following parts pictured below. I hope to keep you guys a little bit more updated going forward
