Sold my 2.8 stroker gear then picked up a different engine for my Sedan over the weekend. Had a baby recently too, but the slow progress of my car can't get much worse than it already is lol

so have done two more track days in this car now, all at Manfeild. James i was doing roughly 1.28s around there and quite consistently. something to bear in mind i am using 8 year old semi slicks and street brakes. to put it in comparison, my uncle was putting in 1.25s in his Porsche 930 bog standard but on same Semis. Have since picked up some M3 front brakes and M3 front suspension is on its way, So will have the following available if anyone is looking to build an E36 - 328 brake kit, much bigger than standard compact, biggest OEM brakes before going to M3 stuff. would be good with race pads, or even something more sporting than the cheapest i could find. - brand new E36 non-M arms - Bilstein sport shocks for non-M - Jamex springs

Drums on the rear, really? That's pretty poor. The car looks good Graham. One of the bonuses of using a potato as a camera

Thought I'd post here before going to trademe. Looking for $6500. Full photos here - https://www.flickr.com/x/t/0090009/photos/143373174@N04/ First year of the classic shape E38. Equipped with an aluminum, chain driven 4.0L V8 producing 210kw and 400nm of torque. 156,100km WoF and Rego till August 2016. Presented in Ascotgruen Metallic, this car was equipped with the following from the factory. Auto dimming cabin lights Adaptive transmission (sports mode) PDC (parking sensors front + rear) ASC stability/traction control ABS Cruise control Comfort seats - 14 way adjustable + memory Rear electric sunblind Electric sunroof Electric mirrors Alarm system Dual automatic climate control Driver + passenger airbag Double glazed windows Some subtle upgrades have been done to modernise the car including: LED taillights, angel eye headlights and twin mufflers which gives the car a subtle V8 growl it should of had from the factory. Also equipped with a Blauphunkt 6CD stacker + headunit. The car is sitting on 19 inch BBS rims, lowered in the front (original springs available) with Falken FK452 tires all round. The pre facelift models of the E38 had the M60 engine which wasn't prone to timing chain snaps like the M62. It also the more robust 5HP30 transmission (can handle more torque than it's successor the 5HP24). Recent maintenance includes a service at Pit Stop (153,000 kms) including a new battery with a 3 year warranty. An extensive service was carried out at Euro Car Services at 144k including full fluid change (coolant, transmission, engine, brake), air con regassed, rocker cover gaskets replaced and some new suspension arms. Front shocks are Monroe units which have been replaced recently. Have also got the intake manifold gasket, idle control valve and fuel pressure regulator replaced by BM Workshop at 155k. The bonnet and front guards have also had a respray only 2 months ago. Being 22 years old, the car does have some quirks such as the rear sunblind making clacking noises as it retracts and drivers side glovebox doesn't like to close. Cosmetically there are some small defects as well (small scratches, cracks in plastics etc). Headlining and the instrument cluster display are in excellent condition which are common faults with this model. The car looks absolutely stunning in person and gets looks from young and old, the cabin atmosphere and the way it drives especially on the highway is quite special. Very regrettable sale but unfortunately I need something more practical for the daily commute and have no room to keep this as a weekend car.

Found that car had fair bit of play in the steering on centre. Adjusted screw under the air box and is 90% better.

Thats a great looking car, love the color. Are they proper brembos or just caliper covers?

The groove is where the join/s in the leather sits when it hasnt fallen off. I got an illuminated retrofit one from ebay for reasonable money. Not genuine but pretty good quality replica.

I know someone selling a woodgrain one + tan boot from an e46 - (5 speed) - let me know if interested and will pm contact details.

Shall I just pack up all the BMW ods and ends I have and send them all your way? I have one from an E30 that will do the job, it was glued on so may need to be reglued so it stays put but it is plastic so it looks tidy. I replaced it with one from Ebay, I think. Didn't cost much.

Apologies for the crap quality. Better pics in due course. Fuel filler cap and door handles, kidney grill surround and so on have been plasti-dipped in black. Wheels are the wrong offset for the car. Rears rub on hard cornering, despite the arch lips having been rolled. So, replacement rims are on the menu. Not obvious in the pic but to be expected - clearcoat (took me ages to work out what people were talking about - I know it as lacquer!) is peeling in several areas. Cleanest engine bay I've seen in a while, even if it's not obvious in the pic. No oil or water leaks anywhere! It started raining, and it was getting dark, so pics of a black leather interior weren't going to come out well.

I see Chris Harris and the other guy Rory are going to be Youtube behind the scenes guys. That's a shame. Would rather have those two instead of Awkward Sabine and knob Evans.

Was a good day, brought a replacement e46 for the written off e46. This time a 328i, super tidy! Drives way better than the old one. Brought sight unseen On trademe for 4.4 so was stoked when It showed up on how nice it was. He even delivered it! How's that for service and with a full tank!! Oh and brought the old e46 back for 600 Hopefully can start swapping the bits over I want in the next few weeks if I have time. Became self employed last week and am super busy so will see.

Looks like a nice example but why does that rear muffler bother me so much haha. Is it meant to hang down like that?

I did this swap about 8 months ago. In my experience bolting the engine and everything is all piece of cake. however you are adding an extra layer of complexity because you are using a car that is already swapped as a donor, the person who swapped that might have done things differently to "the way bmw would have done it" Three things i found to be careful around or that you should know: make sure you swap the EWS modules over BEFORE you start the car. this is the DME, the chip in the key, and one module either side of the dash. You want a loom from a manual car ideally that won't have all the automatic stuff in it. I know you said you are putting in an M52 manual, but are you using a conversion kit or is the car a factory manual already? The engine plug is the same regardless of manual or auto, but the secondary plug holds all the auxiliary stuff like traction and cruise control, ABS, and talks to the trans, and in my case was pinned differently. If you don't want any of that stuff then leave the second plug disconnected. If its a road car you will need to do a bit of research in this area and make sure it lines up as you don't want to drive around with a christmas tree on the dash. Oh yeah, you also need to put in the 6 cylinder cluster from your donor car, hopefully this is also 328 and not 325 The 325 exhaust is crap, hopefully they have fitted the 328i exhaust to the car. if so, the front section bolts in, make sure you fit O2 sensors if the DME is looking for them on the donor car. you will need to put a slight bend in the middle by heating a pulling it down so that you have enough access for your rear section. From there, the rear is custom. I am parting out my race car soon and going back to an E30 so will have a custom rear section available that will bolt in if you are interested. Have a look at my project thread here: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/50304-friseur-auto/?hl=friseur i will do another update on it this afternoon welcome to ask for more information if you need it

This is the brush I used. Not a sales pitch, any soft-bristled brush should work just as well. I've actually bought a 'specialist' alcantara brush from Ebay today to try - watch this space..! https://unitedcarcare.co.nz/shop/brand/valet-pro/boars-hair-dash-brush/ Interior cleaner - once again any mild interior cleaner should do the trick - just don't use much & make sure it's not too strong or you risk damaging the alcantara. If in doubt, dilute. https://unitedcarcare.co.nz/shop/brand/valet-pro/classic-interior-cleaner-500ml/ Microfibres. I do 2-packs of these for $10 in-store. https://unitedcarcare.co.nz/shop/brand/united-car-care/high-quality-300gsm-seamless/ EDIT: try not to use those thick white terry cloths. I got impatient and tried one - it seems they're a bit harsh (started taking the dye out of the seat/turning black!!). Gotta be so bloody gentle.

Sure mate, it's not hard but I found it takes a lot of time and patience to get right - it took me just under 5hrs to do this seat, and it was mainly focused on the patches shown. The danger with alcantara is scrubbing too hard and removing the pile (making it worse) - so you need to be extra gentle agitating the seat. I found it most effective to work in small sections, about 6in x 6in square. I used a soft-bristled boar's hair brush, two clean 300gsm microfibres & a very small amount of all purpose interior cleaner (I stock all of these in my shop if you're after any). Spray APC onto brush bristles (a couple of sprays, don't want the alcantara to get too damp), work evenly into the alcantara for a minute with the brush, gently wipe off residue, repeat. It took me 15-20 goes on each section to get the result pictured. I'm not sure this is the best way (as It's painstakingly slow) but it was the most effective method for me as I couldn't afford to risk damaging the seat!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1081441559 "Im lead to believe that this was the last e28 to be sold new in NZ and was bought by the then BMW Club President. She has obviously been well taken care of over the years as the overall condition is pretty good. There are a few small dents but the car is rust and accident free. I bought it in April 2015 with a blown head gasket. The head was crack tested and rebuilt as well as the bottom end inspected. Internally the motor is perfect and it does not use/drip/burn any oil. The transmission shifts perfectly. I have replaced boot and door seals, new brake pads, filters, wheel bearings and the previous owner replaced the radiator and radiator hoses. I removed the interior and had everything cleaned, other than the rip in the drivers seat it has come up really nice. This model has the factory LSD and bilstein suspension and the car drives very smooth. I have done a couple of longer trips over the summer and its has been an awesome cruising car with surprisingly good fuel economy."

I'd go the 530i plenty of power for DD duties.

Thanks mate. I ended up reading quite a bit on the the Chain guide failures on these cars. Looks like I am better off looking for a 530i instead.

There are only a couple of exterior painted areas on a Z3 that can not be unbolted. The small piece that runs across the rear of the convertible top and just in front of the boot lid is one. Its part of the structure of the car. You'll have to remove it to make the rear of the car usable and will need a lot of engineering redesign to remove it and replace it's strength with the new roll cage.
