like the time I got an advisory from VTNZ from a WoF: "your oil is low, sir". "no it's not" "yes, sir, I checked your dipstick" "really? I changed my oil 2 days ago, the level was perfect" check the oil.... "you're the dipstick mate... see that groove there, that's the FULL mark." "oh". in summary, prolly a combination of e46 distick design, and the f%*king disptick reading the oil!

Having met the present owner I am in no doubt that there was no intent to mislead. He's not a car person and, to be fair, the rego says 1997. I very much doubt that he has any idea how to search for build sheet via the VIN. We're quick on here to assume that everyone's knows what they've got and they're just trying to pull a fast one, when most of the time they don't know what they've got or what it's worth and trust what the previous owner/dealer told them and trust that the rego will be correct.

Recaro seats are in! Huge thanks to atlantiskiwi for his help. The seat rails took a fair amount of 'massaging' with a dremel to fit. NZKW straight bolt on ... Need to bolt up properly but we're 90% of the way there. Seats1 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr Seats2 by Christian Taylor, on Flickr

i agree, finding a guid has been tough, i have done hours and hours of research over the past month. E36 compact rear end including Calipers. easy. Front needs to be either all E30 M3 setup, OR: E36 M3 evo (1995+) - arms, offset bushes, hubs, shock assembly E36 any - wheel bearings and hubs (all the same part number) E30 51mm or E36 springs E30 Top hat, some will also fit the E90 upper spring purch which drops the car a little bit more. E36 M3 or E46 330i calipers and disks. I am having some custom made coilovers done which are essentailly the E36 M3 unit with an E30 top hat, if you are spending all this money and has to be certed any way, might as well go adjustable coilovers as well imho. some cheap skates will use other parts or non-M parts like non-m e36 hubs, e46 arms, e36 upper mounts etc which all messes with suspension geometry. just because something bolts up doesnt mean its right, flat peaks dont seem to understand this what effects track width and caster etc have on a car and wonder why an E30 on stock suspension can out handle thier setup. hope this helps

Hi All Back on the E30 bandwagon after selling my '85 318i coupe. Love these little cars and have a few changes to make. It's stuck in Christchurch until I get a weekend to fly down and drive it up.

Bimmersport went down around 4am on Saturday because there was a powercut at Hampton Downs which is where it has been hosted for the last couple of years, the UPS kicked in but when it eventually died it seems a lot of things got a voltage spike. The routers became corrupt and I lost a lot of hard drives. I have spent the last day trying to recover what I can but I am pleased to say bimmersport is back from the dead, albeit running from my home internet for now. Please put up with it being a bit slow until I find a permanent place to host which will be this will be Monday/Tuesday.

Top Gear S23E01 meh .. pretty annoying. Matt was good even though it felt a little bit American topgear. Agreed, Chris Evans is terrible. Extra Gear S01?E01 Felt a lot more natural although I did find Harris probably needs more air time to give him a chance to shine. One small segment in an atom and some forced banter which I didn’t find is his style. I think Extra Gear will be the new topgear... I don’t see Evans doing well mainly because hes too shouty pirate. That stuff works on radio when hosting solo ... not on TV. You just make your other hosts look awrkard

I loaded a link on the original bmworld e21 thread that should help you out.

well done on your purchase. plenty of little easy cheap things to keep you busy without breaking the bank!

Even if they have no errors, they may "strobe" when the cold checks are done, which can make some people think you are flashing your lights at them (even though it's only the angel eyes. Most shouldn't cause the bulb out error, if they say error-free, but probably/possibly do still strobe. SOmetimes you can get models that don't strobe, (I think the MTEC $$$ ones are OK, but not positive), or change to an LCM4 and then recode it to turn off cold checks (which is what I did - then you can buy cheap LEDS as often as you need to )

also, FYI (might be off topic) Brad from here in wellington is making up some adaptors for those people that soley want bigger brakes, if i remember right they use E34 540 calipers in the front and Audi TT disks. you then bolt on E36 compact rear disks/calipers which are already much bigger than the stock E30 parts.

The E36 Wheel Bearing are much larger than the E30's. The Struct / Kunckle connection is also much stiffer than the E30 1pc as it is not legal in NZ to weld any stiffeners to the cast parts, also BMW went back to the E36 style strut connection for the Z4M's (stiffer than the E46 knuckles). With the E36 setup you can fit factory (front) brakes from the 320's 286x22 upto the 345x28 used on the E46 M3 CSL. It seems these days you can even use Z4 rear drive flanges (5lug) to keep the E30'esque wheel offsets and use the E36/46 Rear Rotors (with caliper adapters). Just don't skimp on the (E36 M3 Evo) parts needed to do the front end swap properly.

Dont forget to watch ExtraGear, IMO its what the new TopGear should have been instead. Chris Harris is great, knows how to talk about cars and the new Rory guy has a personality. Evans is rubbish and the show would be better without him. Ill give LeBlanc a chance as i think he will bring some humor to the show, although im not a fan of him purely because he has this "i know im a star" ego about him.

'Tis now mine for a very reasonable $3K and, thanks to an equally reasonable quote from Ray at HellBM, it will go straight there for vanos seal repair!! Sweet!

I've driven it. Vanos seals have gone (underpowered at low rpm and hesitant idling). I've made an offer with that in mind and contacted Ray re: vanos seal replacement (I don't have the right tools). Now... Who wants a tidy manual E30 320i on BBS?

Alot of people change for the ease of suspension upgrade instead of having to weld, and the option of bolt on either e46 330i or e36 m3 front brake setups. But if its just for wheel options you can get a spindle adapter to bolt 5 stud hubs on www.epytec.de/radnaben-sonderumbau-und-zubehoer/4443/bmw-e30-radnaben-umbau-lochkreis-5x120-e36-e46-lochkreisadapter-vorderachse-5-loch-radnabe?c=1852

I'll sell you mine for 9K, it has had all the above problems addressed, and I will throw in a 6 speed manual, and an e39 touring to get it all home in!

Realised how knackered the rear tyres have become! RE002's will have to be replaced with RE003's now. Perfectly even wear though - not super common on an E39, but rebuilt rear end (no worn joints) AND an alignment guy who actually knows what he's doing, and listens to what you want - I run way less camber than the Motorsport suspension specs say, and he set it up for even wear. I sent it to E Parrot and Sons in Christchurch. I had to buy the stepper motors myself and free issue them to their technicians. They did the whole job and replaced the lcd as well. All up $300. Sent from my SM-G925I using Tapatalk
