Hi Guys, this is my M5. I've owned a long list of mainly E34's but this is the best one, even the original floor mats are still secured with unbroken plastic lugs. It is essentially a 1 onr from new, the original onr purchased it brand new in HK & bought it here in 1995. He sadly passed away and the president of the BMW club appraised it & passed it on to the dealer principal at Claytons & he sold it it to me. Anything else of interest about the car?? With regards the movie Ronin, the car used was a manual 525i(M50 engine). Listen to the exhaust tone as it slides around, deep M50 tone & it has the std white needle dash. rgds Mr E34. edit: forgot to add it came with the original turbines & throwing stars(personally not fond of either)

Damn that's a lot of car for the money, BMWs can be such a bargain!

If I read correctly, every member that replied to your thread offered constructive advice. You are just being too pig headed to take it my friend.

Time to sell, move on to so mething else. Completely standard 1996 EVO M3 sedan 3.2 litre 6 speed manual Byranz Metallic, the only known BMW in NZ in this colour. Standard wheels, interior etc 194000 km Been very well maintained by myself and previous owners. 20K or a deal with a 2002tii or something similar.

Congrats on your purchase, that's how I feel too. Will be keeping an eye on anything you do especially when replacing wheels and tyres, while I like mine to look at they don't ride very well.

No I am not the thrash driver that posted before. Sorry to burst your bubble but it seems you are living in a fantasy world bud. I actually have a workshop and I am mechanic myself who works on mostly BMW's so I can tell you that you are being absolutely foolish. Please get some common sense someday soon and stop accusing people of being things they are not on an internet forum when people are clearly trying to help you here. We aren't in your position but still offer expert advice only to be faced with a person who is clearly delusional

been reading these comments on what the vehicle is worth and I am in agreement with most of you guys! A car is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I just picked up a one owner NZ new 03 330i with 67 kms on it with full Jerry Clayton service history and even preventative maintenance items done for only $4.5 k. It is also non m sport with full leather interior in black and black exterior as well. Previous owner was an over the top person so he got paint protection done etc and Pirelli tyres just a month ago So I feel 8 k is way too much for this vehicle given the kms and spec.

That really is a beaut. I don't think E39s get any better than that without stepping into an M5. Really hope that goes to a forum member - especially a Welly one ? GLWS!

You'll not find anyone going to a dealer and paying $10k for an e46 anything, unless it's an M3! You mentioned receiving no bids at $6500 on Trademe... why would you think anyone wants to pay $8k for it, based on your earlier experience? I should like to point out that your perspective is at odds with selling *anything*. You state "it's about value for money for me, not about adding on maintenance..." Actually it's about the perception of value that your potential purchaser gains while considering your car. In this case, it's about what they're prepared to pay, rather than what you think about its value. You speak of "no value in secondhand BMWs". They're not an investment, they're a mobile liability like any other car. Disheartened on the whole BMW experience? That's all down to your perspective. Try a different lens! I wish you luck in gaining the price you seek. It's a very tidily presented 330i. GLWS.

Start: 152,294kms. After prevaricating, considering the market and options, TermiPete's 545i became available. The domino effect of upgrading! I'd thought about X5's, missed out on a 535d Motorsport Touring by 2 days, and thought about 550is. So I bought this. It's my SS Commodore. Just in a sharply tailored german suit, rather than a Drizabone. And it has a roundel where the lion would be. And it's cool. Pete has lavished a bit of attention on this vehicle since acquiring it in Oct 2015. Now its my turn. I've already ordered hardware for shock replacement (bump stops, boots, strut bearings, bolts etc)... now deciding which shocks to get. Sachs standard (OEM) Bilstein: Touring (B4), HD (B6), Sport (B8) Koni Yellows After doing the shocks on three of my last four cars, the last two I've stuck with factory IEM spec Sachs (my Volvo 855-T5 and BMW e46 Touring). I'm not planning on changing the springs on this 545i and don't want to radically transform or make it too hard. It has Standrard suspension, it's on 18" conventional tyres (no need for RFT's here as it has a spare), and has Dynamic Drive option (the active computer controlled anti-roll bars) and having driven a near-identical car without DD, I'm sold on it. Koni Yellows I'm sure would be lovely, but they're a little more pricey. Bilstein: tempted to go HD (B6 Yellow), they're said to be made to work with stock springs but are up to 20% stiffer. I think this would be similar to the addition of KYB Excel+ gas shocks to my old A32 Maxima. Firmed it up and helped it hugely with roadholding and ride. Alternately B4 Tourings are said to be 10% stiffer than stock. Sachs: The OEM shocks are equivalent to 31316766993 (Front left) and 31316766994 (Front right), and 33526766995 rear. They'll no doubt "just work". Would I be crazy to go Bilstein HD B6? And as soon as the shocks are done, it's time for new boots (and panties). Photos soon.

Hello - My names Dan. I'm from Wellington. And while I don't quite own a BMW yet, I'm on the hunt! I've been lurking around the forums for a bit, so I thought I better sign up and introduce myself. Anyway, hopefully one day I can fully join the ranks. In the mean time I'm enjoying checking out some of the awesome projects you have underway. Cheers Dan

Just do a 3rd gear log before you bother with all that... The target boost drop is like due to the throttle being cut by the traction control, don't get hung up on that before getting a better log.
  16. 1 point
Get a vacuum gauge and plug it in directly with a t connector and long hose can watch it when going for a pull. You can then know for sure if there is an actual boost issue or just a sensor. And double check the manifold and CP are seated correctly since you only had this issue after the intake blasting. Best practice is to replace the manifold gaskets so another thing to check as well.

here's the comparison table between 2004 545i and 2004 SS Commodore (VZ) from automobile-catalog.com. I'd have linked, but it's a PHP selection and you'd not get the data pre-populated. On paper, it's a pretty close-run thing. The good old 5.7 litre GM V8 with 4 speed auto uses a bit more fuel, but keeps the commode up with the 545i and its more modern (smaller, more fuel efficient) 4.4 litre 4 valve per cylinder all-alloy V8. thanks, Sam! I'm keeping things fairly conservative. Daily Driver duties of 70-odd kms, needs a bit of comfort. Plus, my wife and kids unhappy faces if it's too stiff is not at all good. They just wouldn't want to ride in the car. I've acheived a good happy medium with my e46, now looking to do something similar in outcome terms, but with a different vehicle and set of constraints. I'll keep this thread updated.

Preey, for your wealth of posts on this forum, you're in no position to make judgements on the behaviours and motives of those in this community. These guys are - to a tee - very, very helpful. Frankly the hostility of your posts in this thread are concerning, and you come off as a troll. Relocating countries can be a stressful time, and stress can bring out irrational behaviours. Hopefully the rest of your plans won't see you flaring up and lashing out at people who are trying to help you, at whichever point of your journey you're on. Best thing you can do now is put your $8000 on the car and take it to a car fair or park it wherever everyone parks their cars to sell these days. Do have a plan B though, as you can't put it in the overhead locker when you leave. I'll not be responding to your posts any further, I wish you the best of luck.

This action has been described over the centuries as "cutting one's nose of to spite one's face". You are of course entitled to your opinion. I would suggest there are many here who won't share your perspective. An expectation of owning an car - and not losing money on it - either comes from a very different time (such as new zealand in the 1970's), or a very different market. Try buying a $25,000 Toyota Signature Class car that originated in Japan used, and tell us how much you get for it in three years time. If you get $12k you'll be doing well. What will you say about Toyota then? Hopefully you'll try a different lens and find a happy sale. You're leaving the country, need to quit your car, and could do better for the environment than wrecking your e46.

"pay attention 007!". SJ has picked up a 330i at a good market price. Colin is the self-confessed thrash driver. And here's the question of perspective. The vendor of SJ's new car sold something he wanted to sell, for what the market was prepared to pay. Would he have been a fool for holding out for (say) $9000, a price the market was not prepared to stand? Who's the fool here?!

My cables have just arrived so I will log with MHD good reminder i nearly forgot about logging.
  31. 1 point
MHD can log that if you've got the cables, you do have to pay though for the logging feature. About $50 I think. That's how I found my issue, mine would almost never trigger a fault code, MHD devs pointed it out when I shared my logs online... If you need some free logging, you might be able to make do with Torque, but it won't show Target boost I think.

It's only simple if you build a robust system and ensure it is used correctly. Put in context, 2 million cars built in 2016 alone, all with seperate codes, multiple differnent types of key - 5 & 7 Series now comes with four keys, 1 valet, 2 main remote, plus a display key. Go back how many years, and how many keys? Oh it was so easy in the good old E30 days! All electronic keys have seperate rolling codes to synch with the car, not just the cutting profile for the key slot, so how many of seperate pieces of information are we up to now..? How do you firstly create all the information required to produce the parts and code them and get them to the factory onto the right car and then stored again afterwards, in a format that can be interrogated and links all the seperate parts of the jigsaw together? Not a huge task in terms of data storage capacity, but again it is the processes around it that take the time and effort to build and maintain. When I get some time I will try and pull the information I had from Ford of Europe on the cost analysis of data management - for those that have trouble sleeping.

So today I learned how to interogate the car. It was telling me there was something out - a bulb - (Pete mentioned it yesterday)... learned to press and hold the upper button on the left stalk, and the fault is displayed on the central screen. Left reversing light out. Went to Supercheap to get a bulb, checked it in the carpark - working. Okay, dodgy connection of bulb on way out? Couldn't find what I needed at Supercheap, so headed back into town. Winger BMW were happy to provide the right bulb gratis, as I agreed to buy an owners manual. Perhaps excess, but hey, at least it's there if needed. I also got to 'assume the position' while out on my drive... be doing more of that I guess. ** Note to self: get a new leash for the gas cap. I'll look that one up on RealOEM. I like having a captive gas cap, it's a nice touch.

Dominos is right Super glad it has gone to a good home after pouring in $$ to get it (mostly) the way it should be. After zooming around in it with Richard I had to go drive the M5 (just before midnight ) to remind myself why I had changed. I agree re being careful with the DD - maybe go for the OEM MSport flavour as that should be a known good combination.

As a "younger thrash driver", I can assure you the Motorsport variant is much nicer to drive, no matter what speed you travel at. This is why they are sought after. If you sell to a wrecker, it will be cheaply. In which case, they will just flick it on with their own markup. Where then does that leave your gesture?

And most recently, after discovering that my clutch fluid had leaked onto the carpet due to a broken clutch master, I decided it was time to whip the carpet out yet again. With the water blaster sitting right there, I thought bugger it. Time for some cleaning!! Two days later it was dry and it was time to get the vinyl die - at least that would hide some imperfections! It appears I had company while reinstalling...

Sorry, I was not trying to offend with my previous post as I for one hate when someone hi jacks/under values a vehicle for sale ad of mine. The car you indicate is an E90 and priced at $13,500 Double your asking price is 16k. World's apart in all aspects.

Maintenance history aside, it is a 4 door non-motorsport auto that's closer to 200k km than 150k. It isn't worth 8k in the current market, 6-6.5 at the most. It's a nice car but unfortunately it isn't the most desirable spec. 8k would have been viable a couple of years ago but e46 prices have dropped dramatically (aside from manual cars) in the past couple of years.

Just bought a set of PS4's. Got them for $1420 fitted and balanced. 245/40/18 and 275/35/18 sizes. Coming from Pilot Super Sports these seem to be every bit as good, particularly in the recent Auckland rain.
  43. 1 point
Nice car but not to burst your bubble these are not an 8k vehicle anymore. If you need to sell relatively quickly you may need to drop your price. A hard pill to swallow but could take a year to sell in the current market if you don't.
