Hi Team So i'm a new member myself and thought i'd kill two birds with one stone and introduce myself. Names Richard and i'm here to share my journey with my dream car build. Yes you read it right i am going to drop a v12 into the best shape ( my opinion ) bmw ever made. So i had purchased the v12 motor and auto box off trade me late 2015. Have also managed to find a rare 6 speed box that come out of the 850csi bmw that i had to get shipped from Britain. Treated myself to a nice New Zealand new 2000 manual 232i for my birthday earlier this year. Very nice looking with the factory 18inch mags and msport half leather seats and factory spoiler kit too. So here the build begins. over the 3day weekend i disassembled the engine to start cleaning parts for the rebuild. Had already took the heads off and sent to an engineering place to price up getting some custom cams and an ITB set up made. I also have a full new gasket set, head bolts and piston rings that will be replacing all the old stuff, a custom dry sump set up from the states as the oil pan had to be modified to fit the factory cross member. Here are a few picture of the motor in bits. feel free to pass on feed back or any advice team happy to share this build with you guys.

It's true - there are some truly good folks at both Repco and SCA. In my recent experience, they're the girls. They have encyclopaedic knowledge of parts and specifications, and if they don't know the answer, they do know where to go to find it. They drive some nice cars, too. Certainly wouldn't catch them saying "it's all the same"...

Hi Everyone, I'm a long time BMW enthusiast and have finally joined bimmersport. I currently have a 1974 NZ New 2002 and have owned a few BMW's in the past including an E46 ETCC 'factory' race car, an E21 323 and a few E36s. Plans for the 2002 are to leave it standard(ish) and slightly lower it on a set of BBS RS's I am currently re-building. Cheers, Shaun.

OK... this is the RANT thread though, so lets get back to being dicks about everything again...

Very rare something(s) like these happen, not one but two "choice" moments in one long week-end. Firstly fitting new appliances in the kitchen I was very happy to find that the previous installer had done the jobs properly and everything was up to scratch and above-board, not dodgy lash-ups that needed to be removed and start again. Plus all the connections lined up exactly from the old units to the new, so install was a very simple remove and replace. Second thing, bought a Johnny Cash LP in the JB Hifi sale, one of six in the "American Records" series, when I activated the digital download code I not only got a copy of the albumn I had bought, but also the other five in the series, an excellent piece of luck. Lots of new listening to be done.

Hi all, It's time to change my car so thought I'd ask here for some thoughts. Basically, I want to spend about 20K (+whatever I can get for current car) and get something that's not too old, has a bit of grunt, and has 4 doors (kids!). Currently am driving a '98 E36 328i cab - which might be for sale soon... The 2011 X1 2.0 turbo diesel looks pretty good - does anyone have any thoughts on the X1 or any other suggestions? Tim

The X5 is finally going in for new doors and front guard tomorrow and will be away for a week. I'd like to have the LCD in the dash cluster repaired whilst it's out of action and seem to remember you can drive the car for a limited amount of miles before the tamper light shows, can anyone confirm that ? From memory it was around 100 or 120 miles or something. If that's the case, who are we sending our dashes to these days ? It's been a long time since I had an E39 done and I don't even remember who did it.

Hi everybody! Interested in peoples' opinions around the BMW Car Club ... Is it worth belonging? Where does it have momentum? How do they organise things if they don't have anything like BimmerSport? What's the relationship between BimmerSport and the Club- is it 'competitive' or complementary? BimmerSport is a fantastic community and has increased my enjoyment of the BMW experience significantly. I don't want to do anything that works against that.... I'm asking because I'm considering joining the Club and maybe trying to kick start it again in Wellington - and I reckon there's a good complementary proposition that could get extra members flowing in both directions. BimmerSport is the open community for enthusiasts - no joining fees, no car ownership actually required - you just have to be interested BMW Car Club is a club focused on 'real life' activities and has an official BMW association. Events have rules and standards and there's some funding to do stuff. May attract some different people ... I pinged them and they'd appreciate help in getting Welly up and going again. Is this a dumb idea? Is anybody interested in doing the same thing and helping? @Olaf @skidz

Yeah saw that it was on trade me again just a few weeks being purchased. I will have to give (mellowpuf) a message. So the current situation, is i was taking the pistons out and managed to get all the conrod bolts undone bar 1 which i rounded. Spoke to a mate and didn't know why i didn't think of this at the time but will grind the bloody thing off. Have ordered a new set of arp bolts. Once all parts are out will take the block to get acid dip cleaned and checked to see if it needs a resurface, plus had 3 small bolts snap on me where the water flows through. Must have rusted them in, hopefully the machine shop can help me out there too. Then reassemble time. Thanks for all the good feed back too team, feel free to ask if you want any specific pictures taken and i'll do my best.

I joined the BMW club some years ago, nothing really happened in the Wellington region, lot happens in Auckland, regular meet ups etc, I deal with a few clubs with my business, as in I invite them to my lock up, show the cars & demo Autoglym products, the Porsche Club is by far the most active, I would like to see a more active club here, with maybe a club discount at some local BMW specialists, also as I have suggested some sort of Business card or flyer we can leave on cars to attract more people The only good thing that I got from being a member was a club sticker for the car & they send out a club magazine With the way Bimmersport has been growing, do we really need to spend money to belong to the club?? just asking, also its very easy to just log onto the site & check in I have been on many committees over the years & without fail, there will be a core group of three to maybe six people who will run it We should have a coffee catch up & discussion

Have you checked for vacuum leaks? They are common on this motor

Well, I don't think there is a HondaSport.co.nz forum ... so in worst case I'll glue a BMW logo over the H and come along! Tim

I have learned a lot about E90/92s in the past few months and I am not as worried now as I was. Yes there is plenty to go wrong but in my case the solutions were quite straightforward, but I guess that's easy to say in hindsight especially as I tried to fix everything else probably knowing what the actual issue was. The reward is in my case good horsepower in a pretty good chassis. If this maintenance burden is too much and I do understand if it is, then the options are Japan and for a little while longer Australia.

Repco can vary widely between branches. Buy 20 litres of Penrite, Repco Upper Hutt insist on charging $7 for the plastic tap. Buy 20 litres of Penrite from Repco Porirua - no worries mate, we'll throw in a tap. Misplace first tap - revisit Repco Upper Hutt - now they're (plucking out of their heads) ,nah mate, no freebies $11.50. "Thanks awfully squire, I thought you were taking the piss at $7, no chance of selling me any more at that price". shame we don't have Halfords here.

An Update: Now at the 6 months point, and I still feel happy to own my BMW 330i M-Sport. Just a few things of Note: 1) Switching to 'Sport Mode' makes it like a whole different car, the responsiveness is awesome, However, even in 'normal' it is more than adequate 2) Fuel economy, for short while I worried about it, but as I just use about $100 every 2-3 weeks with Mobil Supreme+ 98, it is not really that expensive for the joy of driving it. 3) Still have not taken out for a really long open-road cruise in the country, but feel it will perform well when it does and have not yet enabled or used cruise control 4) Noticed a little safety feature the other day, when the temperature outside dropped from 5 C to 3 C at little dashboard warning light came on alerting me to the possibility of 'black ice' - Nice! 5) It is still a great looking car stock, with its M-sport kit, and I still have not decided whether I will put on "M-sport badges" on the grill and on the rear boot lid. 6) Changed the Japanese Import tyres to new Bridgestones and it felt a whole lot better, especially in the wet. Next up, will be it's first service in about October with Glenn in Botany Motor Worx and subsequent WoF, which I suspect it will pass.
