A selection of some German machinery spotted at the Skope Classic at Ruapuna this weekend... The engine bay on the "Brock" e30 M3 was the finest piece of work I've seen for a while. The S54 powered e87 was also very well sorted...

Got a few nice snaps as well - used a polarizer for the reflections which worked great. Wash with Carpro Reset Wheel clean with Meguiars wheel cleaner Polyshave (clay block) Rinse and dry Hand polish with Menzerna 2400 Solution finish trim restorer and Fireball tire wax Meguiars Hybrid Ceramic Wax Carpro Elixer to finish

Gave her a long awaited drive then bath, hasn't been driven for 6 months and boy, I had forgotten the pleasures of true ///M. It's also clear to me that a $15 Ali snow foam cannon is just as effective as a $100 local one. Had to give her a warmup and clean in preparation for a very important trip up to Kayne Barrie on Tuesday... 😎

Did a bit of suspension maintenance. Over the last few months I've been slowing rebuilding an E36 6-cyl subframe as the current one has done >400,000km with almost no maintenance. I sourced a second-hand complete subframe from the local wreckers and set about replacing everything. It has AKG bushes for the RTABs, diff, rear shock top mounts and subframe to chassis. The inner arm bushes are stock BMW to give a little softness. The outers are both spherical - same as the M3. New hub bearings, caliper seals, rotors and pads. Also got a nice medium case 3.46 LSD conversion done by Kayne Barrie (ZF type). It was all repainted to sort out minor surface rust. At the same time subframe reinforcement plates were installed using the epoxy method (3M 07333). It all went really smoothly with no problems. The shocks were then replaced with Koni adjustables all round. The front struts got M3 top-hats to finally get the proper M3 castor (did the bottom bushes some time ago). The swaybars were changed to M3 all round too and the front swaybar connection was changed from bottom arm to strut. Unfortunately it can't be driven yet as it needs an alignment first and I have to wait until Tuesday... Thanks to 3Pedals for his help in the background!!

New B3 front struts, strut mounts, pads, rotors and wear sensor all installed. Front pads were well worn and the sensor activated which explains the difficulty I had getting the brake service light to reset All the old dampers were still functioning but showing the effects of 90,000 km of use. Compared to the new units compression force was down to about 50% and gas pressure was also a lot lower. Pretty happy with the results of the refresh. The new dampers have softened how smaller road surface imperfections transmit to the vehicle and reduced the noise that was previously associated with those smaller impacts (road repairs, patches, joins in the seal etc). When combined with some decent tyres (RE003's) the ride is now quieter and more supple. Bumps are still felt but the sharpness is gone from the impacts. I imagine that this is how the car would have felt when it left the factory. Cheers...

So, what do we think team, a week before it suffers another issue? πŸ˜‚ Now that its currently working, is it time to flick it off and pretend it never happened, or keep it as the devil you know?

I painted them with satin black - came out good but was literally 3 hours of masking (lots of rubber seals right on the trim, very frustrating) and still managed to get a bunch of overspray somehow... polished most of it off but it will be getting a full paint correction soon anyway. Sweating away on the E46 biannual mega detail now, hope to have some glamour shots later πŸ‘Œ

Hahaha. Apparently turn the batteries into street lighting power sources powered by solar, some clowns say. It's just a money grab all this new tech and new sector of the industry. Someone else can work out the problems in the coming decades.

Has anyone come across what the governments plan for recycling Electric vehicles will be? Or are we just going to make that out of sight out of mind? Ship it to some 3rd world country.
