Is it wrong that I have a dad wagon, an old Terrano farm hack 4x4, a low mileage STI RA, a POS Lancer in a shipping container and yet I still want another car for when all of those are broken and wife is out in her SUV? One of my uncles worked for BMW in South Africa and had one of these when I was very young, nostalgia is a terrible thing when it comes to cars. Anyway this one has been sitting for a while on TM, in the past 6 months there have been a white and a red M535i that have gone for much stronger money than what this one is asking, wonder why this one is not moving - advertised price is $22k, but the seller has commented they will take $18. Unfortunately I have flatlined the next few months of my finances thanks to the house renovation so it wont be grabbing this one, although I have a pile of Noiseline 13mm GIB that I bought before the prices went through the roof and supply stopped that haven't been used - I could sell that at the scalpers mark up rate and probably come close to the asking price Link to the TM auction: https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/535/listing/3463793790?bof=aKD140dE

New Zealand new, factory manual 325i in Bronzit Beige. 4-door. 1988 pre-facelift. Complete car, rust in the typical areas. On lowered springs, have a set of factory springs. Starts first time, runs well and brakes work. Registration is on hold and last WoF expired 18/08/2018. 248,380 kilometres, drives well but due for a replacement cambelt (previously done on 16/03/2009 at 225,800 kilometres) and service. Service history from new until 26/05/2010 at 238,676 kilometres. My partner and I have recently had a baby, I’ve had some health issues and we’ve been renovating our first home. I’ve lost my storage and the E30 fund has gone on the house. Reluctant sale, but genuine reasons for it. Good project for someone with the time for it. Car is located on the North Shore, Auckland. You can contact me on 0275317041 for more information. $6,000

Hey guys. Up for sale again is my 2007 530d Motorsport. I have recently serviced it and it is due at 135ks, currently sitting at 125xxx kms RUCS due at 135k so 10k RUCs. I have not been using it much at all this year due to moving to Hamilton and having to commute (Motorcycle is my vehicle of choice for this). Very tidy condition. There is some wear on the upper windshield rubbers front and rear (common issue). Has Bridgestone Tyres all round with legal tread. Will have a fresh WOF when sold. Rego Expires in December. I have taken care of this car meticulously and it was my pride and joy but I really needed a wagon so purchased a 2010 320d Touring for the dogs and kids. Has NZ Navigation, Bluetooth calling, heated seats, all sorts of nice options, xenon headlamps, headlamp washers, etc etc, ex UK car but has been in NZ since 2011 and I am the 2nd NZ owner I believe Has a K&N air filter installed. Has two keys. Trans has been serviced too. Test drives welcome. Viewing in Glenfield during business hours as I am still working on the shore till my workshop sells. The only non factory item is the rear Alpina style wing I have put on which is not shown in the pictures. After 11k firm. Lowest KM example for sale. Have not listed on trademe yet but I will soon. Also the personalized plate is not part of the sale. will come with a new government issue plate Contact SJ 02102916373 for viewing and test drives Car isn't being used at present so is in storage at my shop.

Not sure how that would have changed the outcomes of the examples you have posted?

https://i.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/128208852/street-racer-invasion--nine-cars-impounded-and-200-fines-issued I promise I'll leave the thread alone after this. I think I've made my point with plenty of evidence. I guess this is a rant thread and rants don't have to be logical or an accurate reflection of reality. 😆

What kind of driver manages to have a nose to tail accident on a motorway in light traffic, on a clear, dry, sunny day..? Clearly cant drive so take licence off them. A Prius was involved...

You don't know his situation, he may have had diarrhea, and needed to find the nearest latrine quickly, before getting to site to use standover tactics on his apprentice to reinforce toxic masculinity Jus' sayin

I feel this is the perfect time to temper the road rage with some soothing commentary from Ogmios and his school of zen motoring

To take a bigger pircure view, this is the natural and sadly predictable progression of the optimal economic strategy in late stage capitalism. Everything is moving towards a subscription model instead of just selling products, whether overtly or inadvertently. Apple and such were notoriously blatant and shameless with implementing it at first, but now all industries seem to be moving in that direction, wherever they can. If you're not pushing planned obsolescence into the design of your products, it hurts your business in the long run. All sorts of stupid sh*t that does not need to be a subscription service, now is. To stick to BMW-related examples, even something like the Carly app. I was looking into it for my E46 to have some powerful coding features without having to resort to specialist software on a laptop and such, but you can't just buy it and be done with it, instead it's a yearly subscription. Why? There's nothing you're going to develop any further when it comes to working with my 20 year old car, so how is a subscription fee justified on something that isn't going to be improved upon from its current form? Can't remember the finer details of it anymore but I often recall the example of some Swedish military equipment company that produced some sort of armoured people mover. The product was good, the sales went really well, they took all the profits and reinvested them into R&D and improved the product even further. When they rolled out 2.0, they could not get any repeat customers because the original product was so good, so reliable that it didn't break and did not need replacing, so the company ended up going bankrupt. Out economic system just does not reward building things to last anymore. I'd actually argue that it never has, it's just gotten to a point of very high market saturation in most consumer products that it's become blatantly obvious. You can't even blame the companies themselves, these are the incentives baked into the core of the economy. It literally incentivises the inefficient use of resources. Economic efficiency prioritised over technological efficiency when it should be the opposite. It's utterly perverse and quite frankly disgusting. And then were ever-increasingly bombarded with the notion of 'sustainability' at every step, when quite frankly, any kind of notion of sustainability within the framework of an economy fully dependent on cyclical consumption is nothing more than a marketing slogan or an empty platitude. Being sustainable means consuming less, and we can't have that in an economic system hopelessly addicted to infinite growth. How that is supposed to be compatible with life on a finite planet I'll never know. The only way I see myself coping with it all mentally is to just care less and less. Sorry if that's a bit doom and gloom, I've kept myself up at night a few too many times mulling over this topic lately. To get back to cars, this sh*t is the reason I'm rebuilding my E46 almost from the ground up, and I honestly don't see myself ever buying a car much newer than that. At least not an ICE vehicle anyway.

So anyway, back to my original rant take away points - rubber and tire carcases littering local streets = bad. And remember ...... I think we have better things to do than rage at each other, smiling through gnashed teeth is way healthier

Low effort pictures but importing a car, paying for a manual conversion and good lsd to be installed puts you well ahead of the average BMW owner as far as quality goes

Yep. Was actually back in Dec 2020. Just got the very start of MIQ. I was in Rotorua, had a great time actually. But managed to get in before the backlog started.

Disappointment. Read about the new Tesla Model 2, some vague rumours of Li-S batteries (500wh per kg) and saw this pic. Winner! 🥳 🥳 🥳 Then I saw that they'll be made exclusively in China, and are likely to look like a watered down, more ordinary version of this: Not actually terrible, but very disappointing.
