No wrap! Let it wear its history even if not perfect! Glad to hear it is getting some love.

Well I got a set of Style 101s which where a cost option upgrade on the E65. Staggered 20s which I wasn’t super sure on, but in the end am very happy with the result. I think they suit the style without being super OTT. Rides great and zero rubbing, perfect offset and fit. They need a little work however for $800 with Pilot Super Sports that have 3-4mm left I can hardly complain ?

I'm emigrating / coming home to NZ next year with my E30 M3 Convertible. I've had it 14 years now and can't wait to explore the country in it. I'd been keen on any advice and recommendations for compliance places near Auckland. While it is 99% rust free (they've never 100% clear) I have had a few spots repaired over the years. They've all been repaired well but you can tell it has been repaired and in reading the compliance manual I think those spots will probably get marked for further investigation and possibly require certification. Is there any benefit to have it classified as either an 'immigrant's' vehicle or a 'special interest' vehicle?

In years gone by they were done properly and rolled by a bloody roller and swept up instead of forcing traffic to roll it. I still cant believe how sh*t we are at making roads, its not like its a new process. Drove the Kapiti Expressway the other day and god damn that road surface feels like its about 10 years old, not 3. I dont hold high hopes for Transmission Gully staying together long.

I have several knipex side cutters but one of my most used tool overall is the long nose side cutter. Will cut through hose clamps, fuel and air hoses, large split pins etc no worries. after over a decade on the tools, the hands and wrists have taken a hammering so these are also easier on the palms as well. To further the whinge on NZ roads/road works. the last couple of days they’ve re sealed about 500m both lanes on the desert road. Yesterday afternoon they left it nearly finished except loose chip was still on the surface resembling an unsealed rural road with a temp 50k speed limit. I went through both directions last night/this morning in my 9 axle truck & trailer and at 50kmh these things throw the stones for miles including into oncoming traffic. I feel for anyone who has taken a decent car through there this weekend. Im pretty sure in years gone by any unsealed or loose sections of roadworks were 30k.

So it turns out the dry sump would be absolutely perfect ... on a left hand drive Just enough interference with the steering rack input shaft to be a no-go. Will turn the attention back to a custom wet sump. Some progress on the rear end however !! Certifier has been and inspected the welding so now I'm free to get the rear back together. Got supplies to do this consisting of light rust killer, wax & grease remover, 2k epoxy primer, 3M polyurethane seam sealer, paintable underseal and a 2k top coat (grey). Gave everything a final wire wheel and wipe down then applied the epoxy primer with a brush. You can get it to go on pretty nice but turns into a messy and painful job with the brush upside down. Will investigate spraying the underbody when the time comes ... something I didn't want to have to do 😕

Factory shafts come with white sicker in a fairly large font with part number on the front shaft section. You could probably see it by loosening and pulling down the front heatshield or maybe mirror, camera bore scope. That's if it hasn't been cut, painted over, removed etc.

Time to strip off the heat shields and see what part number is on the shaft?

People who are told that's what they should be paying. Just like everyone on bringatrailer.

Righto, bit of an update. Cars been away for a couple of months getting a birthday. Was in no hurry but it’s great to have her back. She drives awesome and I forgot how much I love this old girl. few things ticketed off the list WOF and check Replaced rear pads Transmission service and filter Front brake hoses replaced Engine mounts replaced Cooling system pressure tested, found small leak. Radiator and lower hoses replaced Reinitialised Remote and key, had lost remote key and boot access Top battery replaced Oil and filter changed Still a couple of things to do, transmission mount needs sourcing, seemingly impossible to get in NZ so I’ll get one brought in. Rear joint on drive shaft has a bit of play so will get that done as well. Have new rear passenger glass as current its delaminating a little being double glazed. Then Xmas it’s getting the full polish, see if I can sort out that dodgy paint job. If not then it’ll likely get a wrap.

Finally managed to secure a later version 635csi with the E28 platform, NZ new. Glovebox full of receipts, no significant visible rust and not in the common areas. Already on axle stands, front struts removed and on there way to Speedfactor to get the Adjustables welded on, new Brake rotors ordered for the E34 540i Rotor with E32 caliper upgrade sorted. I could only order mixed colours of the wheels I wanted to get the right sizes so will drop the 17x10 Rears off to get painted Silver to match fronts. Fingers crossed this will all be back to me before Xmas and I can get it dropped down and looking how I want. (Yes that is the donor M62B46 engine in the back ground :))

Did a manual conversion in my E36. Had to add hoops for the cert guy. Seems to be a grey area, some certifiers want hoops and some don't. Also, if it was done after Nov 2017 and the brake pedal was changed to add the clutch pedal it will need certifying ( that's if they notice it was converted at the testing station). The tunnel on E36/E46 is really tight with not much room for hoops. You'll have to go custom for the rear hoop as the ready made ones don't fit. Ready made might fit the front but they're butt-ugly... The trans tunnel is also double skinned on the E36 - not sure about the E46. If the E46 is double skinned and you plan to put the hoop bolts through the tunnel side walls they'll need crush tubes welded in. You'll also need to lift the carpet...
