Great work Jeff & Co.... LTNS

Water/coolant in a late model transmission / torque converter is eventually terminal with out a rebuild, be it immediately or a months time. The clutch fibre plates adhesive compound that hold the linings onto the plates degrades very quickly with hot water & steam. This releases the fibre material and the transmission sh*t's it self. No if's or but's. It also requires complete flushing of cooler lines and coolers. If metallic material is also present it's best to replace the cooler and all rubber cooler hoses after rebuilding the transmission

I was running a 3.15:1 before a clutch pack bolt head broke off. If I end up fixing it I'll go to a 2.97 : 1. The LSD was completely rebuilt about 1,500 k before this happened. I'm running a getrag 250G which is not an overdrive gearbox...it's 1:1

Talk to Ray @ HellBM he's done a hell of a lot of conversions on E46's

If you use a sealant (undercoat) the final coats don't need to be as aggressive and will prevent that from happening. Also play with your mixture before making an application. Air temp and humidity also effects what's going on

Seriously though...going by the colour I'd say trans cooler... which would be a trans overhaul as well if it is. Fyber clutch plates in autos don't like hot water

You still need to clear fault codes & adaptions. Possibly also reset idle speed. I would also check unmetered air ie: crank breather hose from the rocker cover to the PCV valve which should also be checked... a back fire (lean mixture) can damage a new MAF (is it new or 2nd hand?). What is the idle Kg reading and full load reading from your new MAF ?
-
Don't buy or do anything until it has been diagnosed correctly... 90% of a repair is diagnosing the actual fault first
-
Yes it will the EGS get's it's load signal from the MAF sensor

If you would like a proper diagnosis of your problem Bernie, give me a call. You are floundering with misinformation and a substandard scanner
