  1. If you want to learn to drive a manual, it would much cheaper to get a few lessons in a manual or go and see Budget and rent a Corolla for a weekend. As for learning how to drive properly, a E30 is a good car to own. I had my first E30 (an '89 318i manual) when I was 16, driving in the wet around Mt. Vic / Roseneath in Wellington taught me how to control a car and keep that tail in check.

    Kidney Grill

    Leave it stock
  3. I would be too scared to make a spreadsheet like that! However, I don't spend much on my ride. The warranty company pays for any repairs and I'm not into modding - stock is good with me. So I'd say about $500 - $1000 per year, being regular servicing, registration and consumables such as tyres.
  4. I want to upgrade the head unit in my import '96 E36 so I have a single disc CD player and an aux in for the iPod. Is there any way of doing this and still being able to use my factory stacker? I note the stacker uses Alpine magazines, does this mean I should be able to plug it into any Alpine unit? FYI this is the head unit. From google images, so not sure if the model number reference is correct.

    4x4's

If you are just getting something to launch a boat and pull a race car, why put your self through the pain of driving a truck? From experience, I would only drive a 4WD if I really had to. Have you considered 4WD wagons? In your budget you could get yourself a nice '02/'03 Legacy GT Wagon in manual. Caldina GT-T's are also getting very cheap too. Or... how about an Audi A6 Quattro? You won't find a manual but it would be good for towing and would be a nice cruiser on a long trip.

    RB powered BMW

In Dunedin there was a race prepped E36 with an R33 GTR engine in it. I beleive the owner enters it in a few open class and endurance races.
  7. STILL AVAILABLE Please PM or text me on 0275 493349 if you want to make an offer
  8. I have Autosure Platinum plus, which has zero excess. They were the only ones doing it when I bought my E36 in July. I understand that they now no longer offer a no excess policy though. This sucks as I would hate to have to pay (in many cases) multiple excesses for one repair - this happened to a mate of mine, they wanted one excess per coil on his Subaru as the mechanic couldn't work out which one was faulty.
  9. I have 2x 3 day passes to the Hamilton 400 in the Frankton grandstand. I was amping for the final races on Sunday, but can no longer go (the things you do to please the Mrs...). I'm going Saturday, but seeing as I'm missing out on the final races I thought I would see if anyone wanted to buy 2x tickets off me. Not sure if I am allowed to do this, but you get cheap racing on Sun and I get to recoup a little bit of my investment. I would give you the tickets on Saturday PM in Hamilton, or you could pick them up from me in the Auckland CBD on Saturday night or Sunday morning. Was thinking $100 would be fair for both tickets (face value is $320). Please PM me if you are keen (or with an offer if you think my asking price is too dear!).
  10. I guess in today's market that is about right. People have been wanting too much for these car's for too long.
  11. I can't access TradeMe at work. What did it sell for?
  12. Yeah, spotted that earlier today. "Alleged Toyota road rage attack leaves van driver critical" doesn't quite have the same ring to it...
  13. Good luck with the sale. I think these are fantastic cars and hope you find a buyer soon. If you get desperate, you could always go the old no reserve avenue. It will be interesting to see what this one goes for No reserve 540i E34
  14. Yes, they are getting cheap. But with the exception of the Boston one, they all look a bit rough. The leather on the black 4dr and the silver/red coupe look shagged. Remember, 4 doors are usually a grand or two less than coupes.
  15. JTFC? What does that mean? ROFLMAO... IIRC... IMHO... Is there someone out there in cyberspace who creates a new acronym every day? Nice M5 by the way (or should that be BTW?), well priced but you would need deep pockets if it turned out to be a dog.
  16. I thought selespeed would be too hard for your average criminal to master! Good luck with the search. These is yellow stick out like dogs balls, so unless it's been stripped already, it should be pretty easy to catch the culprit.
  17. Have you bought a Cherokee yet? If not, DON'T. I owned a 94 Cherokee Limited 4.0 about 4 years ago - It was the worst car I have ever owned, even worse than the yellow Hyundai Coupe I bought on a whim when I was 15. The Jap 4wds are so much better reliability and economy wise. How much are you hoping to get for the 540i? Did you try advertising it with a price before whacking it on at no reserve?
  18. Sorry to hijack thread... but do you have a pair you wish to sell Ray?

    330i Coupe

What qualifies this as a "clubsport"? I was only aware of the Clubsport M3's in the UK (the half way house between a standard M3 and an M3 CSL).
  20. Spotted this on TM. Looks like good value around the $5k mark. Would be a weapon of car with a manual conversion and a chip. Link
  21. These guys are staring to get the occassional gem through their doors. I love the black Msport combo on the facelift model. Nice wheels too. Would be a great buy for some around the $20k mark. TradeMe link
  22. I recently had some air con issues on my E36 which resulted in just over $2k's worth of work. Amongst other things, the valves opening to the vents were playing up and the compressor started leaking. The time it didn't work it was absolute hell driving around Auckland - a black E36 with no a/c is not a comfortable place to be. Auto works well for me and as such, there were plenty of good examples around when I picked up mine. If you are looking for a manual, don't discount the 318is. If you find a nice NZ new one with the Z3 1.9 in it ('96 onwards) you will have a very nice car. If I could get the Mrs to be comfortable driving a manual, thats what I would have bought. Another suggestion (which could get me shot here!) is to go and drive an Audi A4 1.8T Q manual - these are very nice cars and are getting cheaper and cheaper every day.
  23. Looks nice. Check for FSH and send it to Jeff Gray / Page to be fully checked out. Nice colour, tasetful additions and price seems fair too. I've owned two NZ new E34's and they are lovely cars. I'd much rather have this than a doggy old import E39.
  24. Last time I checked, this was a forum. The whole idea about this forum is to discuss BMW's. This actual thread was started to discuss the car and was not the owner listing it in the for sale section. If something like this is listed, are we expected to say "nice car" and simply move on? I think the original poster thought the outrageous price was a talking point and thus drew our attention to it. As for other car prices I've commented on, 99% of the time it has been when people have asked for the forums opinion on a price or when a car is listed in the Trademe Discussions section. I will never apologise about letting an opinion be known. The price asked for this car is ridiculous, and everyone knows it. Why are you so sensitive, do you know the seller? If someone lists something for sale at an extremely high price, they open themselves up for discussion. Do you think we should ban newspaper articles talking about how a $10m apartment is way over priced? How about a segment on the 6 o'clock news talking about a restaurant selling mains for $60... This whole forum is getting a bit too PC for my liking. It's wankers like you that run around acting like quasi school teachers that make this a very boring place to be. I never knocked the car, just commented on its ridiculous price.
  25. No offence... But IMHO I have never seen a burgundy car and have thought it looked good. To me, it's an ugly colour.
