Compressed OEM Springs? Cant find aftermarket springs.
jeffbebe replied to a topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
I'd suggest looking at custom springs for a big drop like that. Compressing that much will likely compromise the spring performance too much to be safe and comfortable. I'm using Archer's in Takinini. Bear in mind if you're compressing they'll need the springs for a couple of days. -

Lots of aftermarket kits for e34s. If you compress check with a proper spring fabricator as results can be mixed. It's also illegal without a cert. in most cases a custom spring will be best but I am compressing my rear springs as the e31 options are limited. Only a small change (less than 20mm). More than that can adversely affect performance. That said, OE bimmer springs are v. good and minor compression can sometimes yield better results than aftermarket springs. Do your research and check with your certifier!! -

Saw an identical 135i hot footing up Richmond Rd a couple nights ago. Was it you? If so, slow down

I bought a refurbished E30 M3 one, Brent, but somewhere down the track I want to do some interior mods. Thanks for the link.

Sure there are lots of a-holes but being a proper city is better than being Wellington North!!
-
$350's a good price for a recover in NZ. Mind if I ask who did it for you, Brent?

Easy!! Had to get the part numbers from E38 realoem as it had the same plugs. Will dig out the numbers and message you. Yep! Shocks are already done but the rear is rotting fast so all new bushes will tighten everything up.
-
Totally. There'll be no visible difference but the handling will be night and day!!

Been collecting this little lot for some time. A few things I forgot when I did the front suspension and complete rear overhaul. Wish I had the time to do it but I can live without pressing bushings, so letting the pros take care of it!!

Silver 1 series with black wheels and grilles and aftermarket quad exhaust. License plate GZZ740. Undertook me in a 40k zone at 50k+ in a bus lane to gain one car length in a queue of traffic. What a nob. Exactly the sort of dbag driving that makes people hate BMW drivers. Hope it wasn't a member. If it was, don't drive like a nob, it makes us all look bad.

I did my E39 one myself but it was a bit of mission and still cost $60 for the new ribbon. Got Kerry in Christchurch to fix my E31 MID. No hassle, a better job than I could do myself and all for $150. Bargain.

Why not read what you type before you post it?

^+1. It's a design exercise not a signal for what's to come. Some beautiful aspects of the design and some less beautiful. Hopefully, the beautiful aspects get adopted into some of their road car design and the rest stay on the drawing board. Better to have ideas and reject them than have no ideas at all.

A kiwi Bimmerforums member living in the US helped me out shipping parts cheaply. Part of the deal was that I take the 8er out to show his dad (another enthusiast) when the parts arrived so I drove out to Kawakawa Bay today with Martin (breakmywindow). Great people, great drive and stunning location. What a place to live. Hard to believe it's only half an hour from the CBD. And pictured with Daniel's dad's E38... Plus I got my box of rear suspension parts! Whoop!!

Yep. DOHC, ITBs, 550bhp from memory. It was the most powerful engine BMW developed for a road car (apart from the S70/2 in the McLaren F1) until the F10 M5 (more than 20 years later). Would have been something else and right up there with the Ferraris and Lambos of the day but just too expensive.
-
Nice but I was hoping to spend half that.
-
I don't have the space for a hoist either. Would be happy with normal ramps but all the ones I've seen are too steep for the 8er to get up without dragging the front spoiler. Could make some but the incline needs to be so slight they'd have to be around 2m long and I just don't have the space. Hence adjusties!! But they seem to be hard to find here.

Has it got a rear window sun visor? The on my 8 is broken wondering if I can pillage an E39 one to make it whole again... If they're similar mechanisms and size.
