I’ve found Schmiedmann to be consistently cheaper, even with the 2% credit card surcharge then any of the American big name parts places, i.e fcp, pelican, ecs etc.

Checked the steering box and front subframe bolts? My old 540i had a random clonk and it turned out to be a loose steering box mounting bolt.

My 2c... Depends when fully cured if it remains a lower density on the inside whilst keeping a higher density “skin” then it’s more like a foam, if it’s density is high through out then it’s more an epoxy.... Think of 2 part epoxy glue when cured... high density throughout when fully cured...Suspect it’s the latter as if it were to remain ‘soft’ on the inside whilst ‘hard skinned’ when injected in between the plates it would still allow them to deflect which in turn does nothing to prevent the spot welds from failing causing the cracks. The term structural foam i think was derrived from poorly translated German to English and made popular by American E46’ers.

Depends if u diy the chain guides job. Paying someone for it is probably around 2-4k it’s a big job. The chain cover gaskets were done however which seems odd as at that point you’re over half way to replacing guides and chains etc.
-
i’d say timing chain guides will need doing pretty soon.

I'd definitely be pissing on your toothbrush

Time for another diff seal. Must’ve been a 1000km running-in seal. Ffs. That’ll teach me for replacing them (old wern’t leaking) while having the diff out.

I reckon the smg suits the character of the S85 perfectly.

To me that colour is just primer with a clear coat.

Last I heard they don’t deal with the public anymore. Probably should get around to removing the sponsor thing..

Did you replace the gasket ring that’s pressed in to the thermostat housing? Looking at the old one in mine it looks to have been allowing radiator coolant in to the engine before the thermostat opens, which is what caused my long coolant warm ups.
-
Put in a new thermostat and gasket housing ring, what a bitch that ring was to remove. Didn’t have to remove the whole plenum this time though so that saved a couple of hours. Now she gets up to normal operating temperature and doesn’t run as rich anymore.

Wonder how much in $ fcp euro sells to nz?

Nicely done Aaron. Not the first person to move on from M5 ownership only to come back to it. Testament to a great all round car.
