Bought a lower kms trans and got the torque converter in it rebuilt. Did a basic service on the trans too, filter kit and drained as much of the old oil out as i could.

The X5M is more ‘car’ like then suv, jeep, Ponsonby tractor with it’s lowered suspension, low profile tyres and the s63 from the M5 car, barge, whip. Might’ve been called a car by someone who’s native tongue isn’t English. Point is, no need to split hairs over what someone calls something with 4 wheels that goes broom broom.

“The word car is believed to originate from the Latin word carrus or carrum ("wheeled vehicle"), or the Middle English word carre (meaning "two-wheel cart", from Old North French). ... It originally referred to any wheeled horse-drawn vehicle, such as a cart, carriage, or wagon.”

‘Ooomph’ green degreaser from bunnings. It’s cheap, works well and doesn’t stink of diesel.

Building back the ‘trust’ after a coolant job on an old car involves religiously checking coolant temps and for leaks after each drive. So far so good, lighting was a bit better so here’s a before and after of the engine bay. Many new shiny parts! Keen eye will notice the intensive washer bottle and pump delete. Replaced the washer jets with e60 fanning ones. So much better than the e39 baby pee dribble jets. Engine bay when first acquired. Engine bay after all M54 maintenance done, including new fan shroud and intake boots, and a good clean up.
-
Intake manifold and underneath it maintenance all done. New gaskets, vacum caps, ccv and hoses, coolant hard pipes and a bit of a clean up. Coolant hard pipes did break removing them as expected but was pretty easy to clean up the remaining bits stuck in the engine. Bonus points to previous owners for regular coolant changes as there was no corrosion or build-up of crusty coolant any where.

Nah i quite like the colour coded look but will be painting the chrome window trims either gloss or matt black.
-
Time for the intake manifold to come off to replace common maintenance stuff.

Yep, get it rebuilt.

Been a month of waiting on items from the USA. Decided to give Youshop a go again after a break from them. Big mistake. They send me a notice that customs fees and gst are due, won't tell me how much or how to pay. For an additional $60 they will gain you that privilege, by being your 'broker' LOL LOL get f u c k e d ! Or, you can do it your self. So I did. Send through the required info, then get the automatic reply saying they are a week behind in processing. Wait a week, and still nothing. Grrrrrr. So as we know 1st of December is the 'cut-off' date from avoiding gst and other fees for items < ~$400. So yep, understandable, lots of orders coming in.... No issues with paying the gst, but waiting for 2 weeks for some c**t to process some fees is pretty piss poor.

On my touring you can shift the subframe a bit by jacking a wheel up and wiggling on it. Plan to do mine in the next month. Over bumps it's not pleasant.
-
Seem to hold up pretty well the sedan subframe bush. Can’t say the same for touring.

Full AliExpress/Wish spec.

Good idea but after all the work i’ve done on these seats I am 100% over it.

All cleaned up and fitted. Need to open up the drivers seat control box to fit a new bushing so i can put the recline/headrest button back on, and the switch covers for the thigh support on both seats are missing. Hopefully can find those in the e39 530i msport festering away at pickapart Mangere.

Casually having a stroll through Zebra Onehunga as you do and spotted a standard e39 fitted with black leather Sport seats. Boot and all 4 doors were deadlocked so out with the holesaw again. Leather is fairly good and all the electrics work but god damn were they in a state of filth. The drivers seat smelled of dog, sweat and mildew and the passenger seat was just mainly mildew and old beer smell. Spent a good day of solid dismantling and cleaning of the seats. Used some baking soda and white vinegar to kill off the mould and other gross. Will be letting these air out in the sun for a couple of days before installing.

Had a bit of a hiccup. Didn’t attach the nee expansion tank properly in to the new fan shroud i bought. End result was one of its hoses rubbing on the ac compressor. Had i have not used the ac on the drive back from Hampton downs on the weekend I would have been ok, but good thing I hadn’t used it any more prior to having a look over the maintenance i did. I’ve decided to remove the intake manifold and replace all the plastic crumbly shyte under there along with a new ccv and coolant pipes that fit on to the block. Have noticed some more grunt from doing the vanos seals. Well worth it. Difference between ID and OD of damaged hose is about 5mm. Looks like I might have maybe 1-2mm of rubber left before she bursts. Alot of swearing ensued.

Do u know if it that front belly pan still in tact?
-
Looks like it has black leather sport seats but they would be impossible to remove with how close they sit the cars next to eachother.

I’m going to have to soon. Ccv hose going in to cam cover snapped in half and the intake boot has a rip in it now.
