  1. The Devil is in the detail. The pre FL headlamp brackets only allow 3 of the 4 bolts to secure the headlamps, only 2 were holding in one headlamp so I went and got some proper FL headlamp brackets with all new fasteners. The rear license plate LED's were just a tad bright so I bought brand-new incandescent items, along with a FL windscreen washer fluid filler neck.
  2. Don't think the max bhp matters as much as the fat slab of torque the m70 has. Big lazy engine for a Continental mile muncher.
  3. Yeah I blame used car salesman planting a seed in peoples heads, that timing chains are maintenance free - Certainly the implication.
  4. Cheers, yeah it was a rare factory option.
  5. End of the line it seems. It was fun while it lasted.
  6. Fair bit of Maintenance work to be carried out shortly, just need to wait for it to be delivered and hopefully dodge customs.. - New OEM clutch and Flywheel - Driveshaft Donut (Guibo) - Driveshaft centre bearing - All new fastners, gaskets and mountings for Exhaust (rusted to Fcuk) - New OEM shifter rod (replace ebay nasty short shifter) - New Z4 M illuminated shift knob - Full shifter assmebly rebuild with new bushings and clips. Got this delivered the other day - New under tray which mounts behind the engine under tray.
  7. Nah no other bits in the head, but oil pan had a few chunks in there.
  8. Here are a few pics from mine when I had this work done back in 2010. The item circled in red is a piece of one of the guides that made it's way up there, causing a nasty rattle sound. Deflection rail worn from chain contact Pretty clean looking for 250k's on the clock Had this sprocket replaced while it was all apart :
  9. Mine went at about 250k. Engine was very clean on the inside indicating regular oil changes.
  10. Try besiansystems.com for vanos help.
  11. Have a read of the furniture clinic site. They have rip repair kits. The videos will motivate you i'm sure.
  12. I just picked up a brand new e39 M5 shifter very similar to your one. Has much less play in that rubber bushing. Sounds like your one was damaged in transit or faulty rubber used.
  13. My understanding is that if oil is leaking out from the noid covers then it would be the o-rings are not sealing the high oil pressure the noids are dealing with. The gasket should just be in place for protecting against dust. Shouldn't need any of the goop stuff. Good work though Dave. My vanos doesn't look to have ever been touched so wil be interesting to see how weak the noids have become.
  14. Yep hope the ppi goes well for ya Charlie. Was a pleasure taking it for a test run on the weekend.

The pics don't do it justice. It is as new.
  16. Like it just rolled off the line. Great work Dimitrios and good meeting you today.
  17. The joy of being a network engineer - feel ya pain.
  18. Good work! It's not until you have sorted suspension and steering that you appreciate driving a bimmer.
  19. The trouble with facelifted E39 Headlights is that the Xenon and Halogen units look identical on the lense side. You need good pics of the backside to determine if they're indeed xenon. There will be a few mis-represented units stating they're xenon but are halogen. This can also work to your favour price wise, so even check the listings that state they're not xenon. Ballasts attach to the backside of the unit with a bracket. About mid-way through 2002 Hella used epoxy to seal the front lenses. Replacing adjusters on these is not fun.
  20. Thank Christ it's back together and running! It's been real.
  21. First gen celisor or ls400 I'm sure you get to beat up in street fighter 2!
  22. You will need facelift Xenon headlight units which I obtained ex UK. I'm pretty sure e39's specd with HID's also had auto-leveling. So if that's the case you will need the auto-leveling parts and wiring along with a suitable LCM (Light control module). The headlight units should come with ballast resistor packs, and wiring is easy enough to do, in fact I think BMW do a retrofit wiring kit. Brand-new ex Hella NZ the xenon headlight units are around 2k each....
