You would think there would be some good will involved huh. If there isn't then I could only presume they just lost themselves a life customer. -
Low KM's doesn't automatically mean less use than high K's cars. Its a shame you can't see the number of active hours the car has been used. You only have to look at the Jap imports. 100,000kms feels like 200,000kms on some of the cars I have driven. If the car has been well serviced all the perishable/replaceable parts should have been done. It is a case by case thing.

I would love to know what sort of driving causes them to fault and be eaten. And why BMW hasn't really taken every precaution to solve the issue. Rather they have just band-aided it. -

Mine has the reinforced ones with the better shafts. So it would really only just be a precaution. -
Yep would rather a 200K open road runner than a 100K Auckland crawler or Remurewa School Bus.

The fault that is more common on these motors is when they eat the swirl flaps. Will have mine taken out very soon. -

The Mrs is not happy it doesn't have heated seats though. Haha. I thought being a Southern car it would. No matter. It just doesn't get that cold up here. -
Nice you are going to all the right people. They do amazing quality work.

Hi Alan, Is the paint in good nick? Clear coat is not starting to fail etc.. Is she running okay to get over the hill to Masterton? Or does she need to be transported? Cheers, Dan

Love this 530D. Drove from Chch Airport to Picton, Wellington - Masterton - Palmy - Taupo - Just North of Matamata On one tank of diesel. Approx 890kms with some mucking around. Not eco driving. Driving like we just purchased a new car and wanted to see how it drives. Went over the Rimutaka's and Vinegar Hill spiritedly. Economy was still 6.7l/100kms. Drives like a new car. Long distance driving all its life rather than shitty commuting in traffic. Is a shame that all it will be doing during the week is shitty commuting. I say forget Petrol if you are looking at buying a more modern BMW. Unless you are looking at proper M vehicles of course. The 530D has all the power of the 530i but with much more torque and far superior economy. Even after just this one drive in the E60 I am impressed with how much better than the E39 it is. They really did build a car to the same standards as the amazing E39 with improvements in every aspect. Not many manufacturers achieve this. -
FWD French Ferrari. Would rather rollie pollie everywhere I had to go than be see driving that.

Cheers, Pretty cool blog actually. After I read about the 5 Series I had a look at the black and gold blog. http://drive4corners.com/index.php/black-and-gold/ All about the 6ers and plenty about Jim Richards car which has been in NZ quite a few times. I watched the very last vid and it was also pretty good. Some yanks racing them in a road rally and kicking all the Porches asses. Even the M5 beat them.

Should you be eligible for ACC if you don't pay your Rego? I feel that you shouldn't be.

Workmate is having majors with Slingshot at the moment. His quality of net has just deteriorated over the last few months. After having everything professionally checked (including the exchange) it has come down to they have over sold and no longer have enough capacity during peak hours in our area on the North Shore...
-
My new car is waiting for me down in Chch. I half expected to get a call saying it was under water. Watching the news this morning the water had subsided pretty quickly I see. Stuffed quite a few houses though.
-
Moved from Slingshot to Orcon just over a year back. Slingshot was by far the worst quality and slowest connection I have ever had. International speeds during peak time came to a standstill. I was on their all you can eat plan which was well oversold. Bandwidth was becoming a big issue. Moved to Orcon who was only slightly better. Moved house to a newer suburb and the speed jumped up nicely. Better exchange. However I am now on a plan that Orcon doesn't advertise (retention plan 250GB and phone for $99pm full speed.) Avoid those all you can eat plans. You will be in a very over crowed abused pool of users. These are the worst plans possible for gamers. A lot of it depends on where you live and the quality of the lines/number of people on the exchange etc...

Of course. They are faster and less safe. Like motorbikes. Diesels and motorbikes. Pretty much the same thing.

I deal with all of this on a day to day basis. I probably call them once a week with a new combination they don't support for trucks and trailers. And as I said. A heavy crane needs to buy RUC that doesn't even allow it to drive. They then need to purchase an addition 20 tons of weight just to be able to go up the road. Bloody hassle for them. Light vehicles do need a classification system the same as the heavy vehicles. I will have a chat to some of our people in the know at the NZTA to see what they feel will happen. In the mean time I am going to buy a heap of RUC so I don't forget to get some. Or put an Eroad unit in the car and leave it on Auto. Can anyone explain why Diesel Rego is more expensive?
-
Yeah keeping the same system we have now but having different classes would be the ideal way. And the NZTA system can do this. It currently does it with all heavy vehicles. But for lights there is one class only. >3.5ton. I am unsure why the government isn't trying to push more private diesel cars onto the road.
-
Subsidising something that is substandard. The UK has some good systems in place. However they have a population that requires them to be there. Though I am unsure how their RUC system works. We are actually one of the few countries in the world that have a RUC system. Denmark is another. But their trucking industry is fiercely controlled by the Unions. And their RUC system is quite simple. Oregon now has a system thanks to Eroad. They have more trucks than we have people though. And it was badly needed. Aussie's privately built roads are next on the list. NZ motorists are being way over taxed though. And now that I am reading more into it I see that any change would need to be backed and pushed by major industry. And petition from some diesel drivers would be bluntly ignored.

Some good points. Cheers guys. Having different rates for different vehicle types is possible through NZTA's current system. They have this capacity for Trucks and trailers so they should have it for vehicles. You pay different rates depending on your vehicles gross tonnage and axle count. So having different rates for Engine size and emissions standards could be done for cars. If the public got behind the idea it could work. But considering that when NZTA changed there RUC types in 2012 they forgot about mobile Cranes. They still have not fixed this. Their standard RUC ticket doesn't even let them drive down the road. They have to buy two types of RUC just to move. In a specific order. Dutchy I see how much money flows through for RUC. It is eye opening. I can't say how much. But going on Dutchy's figures as an average would give you an idea. I highly doubt the revenue from road tax is all spent on our roads. Not even close.

Yeah was a great 3 races to watch. Scott has to be the crowd favorite this year. So many in the crowd with their Volvo flags! And massive cheers for him when he jumped up on that podium. I was pretty happy when Wincup stuffed it on the last corner and let Scott by again. He is a real character on TV and it would have been a pole for him in race 3 I reckon. SVG and Fabian did bloody well too though. Both came from way back to get top 5. Do feel for Bright though. I like his racing style and he is a good character too. Glad he is all okay after that roll over. Team Red Bull. Sick of them. Appreciate their skill. Not fond of their team behaviour. It would not surprise me if they employed their own guys to watch for other teams mistakes. Apparently they were the ones who put in the complaint about SVG accelerating outside of the accel zone. They complain about everything. Got what they deserved for the "fixing" the car penalty. Same sort of situation as SVG. Couldn't have been a bit of give for both teams tbh. Shame about the two Mercs being taken out. Holdsworth cracked the top time for race 3. Starting to get it together. Just bad luck. Moffat form the Norton Nissans needs to be slapped after some of the sh*t moves he pulled on the weekend.
