  1. You could do a cheap lower power turbo setup, but it would still be over 4K easily. Leave bottom End Stock. Leave Head stock bar the rockers ($700 through Dan Slater) Do not bother with other brands. Tried them all. These are a must. One back fire and you will break one. MLS Head Gasket ($400-$500) - I have one I can sell you brand new. I have to go to a much stronger one to handle 650hp. Turbo Manifold $1000 if you can get someone to build a mild steal one prob less. Turbo - Holset HX30/35 (See Crunchy Murch for one of these) Then you still need Fuel Pumps Surge Tank Wastegate Intercooler Oil Cooler Braded Lines Intercooler piping ECU & Tuning Diff to handle the power Drive Shaft Exhaust

  3. Rockers are an issue when playing with the head. The are the M30's biggest weak point. You also need to be careful which ones you upgrade too. Many are no stronger but will advertise as such.
  4. Turn the drive shaft. Count how many times the axle turns for one revolution.

    Benz E63 AMG

Have to disagree with the E60 being detached compaired to the E39. My E39 540 felt much heavier than my E60. The gear shifting and steering was slow and had no feeling. The active steering in the E60 is actually quite good. The gearbox is much more responsive. And my E60 is a diesel. The M5's might be a different story though.
  6. There is another Puke day on the 31st. James and I will be there testing the Endurance E30. Come on down and see a seriously quick E30.
  7. You don't need to get rid of that weight in the series though Jon. I am not exactly light weight. And I still have a huge amount of lead in the car to get her up to 1175 with me in it. The 4 door actually has better weight distribution apparently. Will take more notice next time I am watching the scales.
  8. Also raising the rear end of the car slightly till you find a balance. The factory bump stops being put back in made a big difference for me and many others.
  9. It was an E30 Series car with a full cage through to the front and rear struts. No amount of adjustment would result in any benefit from the strut bar on the track. It was costing me up to a second at Taupo. That's a life time in an E30. Careful when going to a harder bush in a road car. You will end up with much more road noise in cabin. (I am sure you don't have to worry about this Michael )
  10. Strut brace on my E30 series car made it understeer badly. Gave it away to someone.
  11. Takapuna Panel Beaters is who I use. Marty the owner know many of us Bimmersport people. He is also the BMW E30 race series champion. My E60 is there at the moment.

Just make sure they are not using their usual cheap UJ's. ADL are pretty bad for that. I used to work there.
  13. Also the 330D E90. They are great cars. Just have to find a nicely spec'd one. So many have sparse options and horrible color combos.
  14. Could always look at a 530D. Around 10L/100kms in heavy traffic. 6.1-6.8L/100KM's on the open road. I have an 05 530D E60. Driving from Chch I got just over 1100kms to a tank. Including a bit of spirited driving over the hill to Masterton. There is the extra cost of RUC. But in reality you are still paying quite a bit less. And the E60 will cost you no more than an E39. They are comparable for maintenance costs. They are not slow either. Modern Diesels are pretty impressive. However you can probably pick up some Jap car with less KM's on the clock for the same price.
  15. Wish we had events like that. Bimmerfest was a week or two back also. Huge numbers attend from all over the country. We have trouble getting people to cross the harbor bridge :S
  16. Spose you have already invited Mr Fearghus. He owns the M1 Replica Race Car. Also owns a few other E31's too. Was driving around in a Alpina B12 the other day.
  17. I always just called it Baby sh*t Yellow.
  18. Posted them in the past. Was a black on black 3.8 in Japan for sale for less than $25K landed a while back.
  19. http://www.chemicalguys.com/Headlight_Repair_How_to_Fix_damaged_Headlights_s/124.htm Also watch their very detailed and well presented Youtube videos. I am also just about to take my headlights to GT Refinishers to be cut and re-cleared. Will take before and afters.
  20. Yeah I love the E60 now. Honestly I did not like them when they first came out. Most didn't. They do come in some horrible color combos though. And there are some really povo spec'd ones floating around. Like I bet if there was the option to pick a HQ Brown with Hillman Green leather, someone would have picked it. My car is from the south. Greymouth. Very surprised it didn't have the heated seats. I don't care about them but the Mrs who is like a little Ice Queen really wants them.
  21. The people have just changed. Some people have moved on to other things and different brands. Others just don't have time anymore. Though the forum still directs the people who need the help to the people with the knowledge which is good. When it stops doing that then it will die very quick. Though if you are reading through other forums and you stumble across some good tips/info/builds please post them up. Isn't there a published book about restoring and modding your E30? Edit: Maybe we could start a section for external links. Builds, Parts, guides. Our community is pretty small. But sharing the info from other sources would help a lot.
  22. I think mine is just double sided tape holding them on. haha. Are those seats the comfort ones? I have the sports seats. But sadly they are not heated. The Mrs really wanted heated seats but it was slim pickings for E60 Diesel Msports.
  23. Nice. Wish my E60 was black. I have the AC spoilers on mine. Look great. I reckon some Euro length plates would make it look great too. Keep the stock GUN plate and convert it to Euro.
  24. Nearly lost an Altezza this way back in 03. They ended up damaging the steering colomn and ripped apart the wheel trying to break the lock. Huge mess. Thank god it held.
  25. Yup went halves in a rear seat with Jon the Pom to redo our seats. Houndstooth is hard to find.
