Thanks, but I'm trying to stick with m42b18 at this stage as I already have 2 and want to be able to interchange parts as I make them up.

I totally understand the desire to build something yourself, I have a few projects myself, but you can buy a manual e46 328 for less than 4k, I seriously doubt that you will finish the project you describe for less than that, and it will be a frankenstein, a 318is that has been converted and has a cert for being a 328i will not be worth more than a standard 328i. I dont want to put you off a project but it sounds like a lot of time and effort for a negligible reward. If it was me I would be thinking about what I could do with that money and a tired M42! If you decide to go ahead i wish you well and im sure you will enjoy it.

Still for sale , wof has run out, will be sorting this weekend then relisting. Need to move it on so make an offer if you're keen.
-
I hate to be this guy but surely its easier and cheaper to sell what you have and buy a 328i? Now thats out of the way, the 318is is a great little car and the m42 is the last decent 4 cylinder motor bmw made, if you are looking to unload one I could be keen to pick it up. If you decide to keep it stock they are still a lot of fun, I daily drive mine and I am seriously considering turning it into a road legal track car. It will never be super fast, but lots of smiles per dollar. Either way good luck and have fun.

Have you checked the sender, mine did this and it turned out to be a damaged float on the level sender, it was soaking up fuel and sinking!

I thought m3s had clear indicators as standard?

After only 5, 000, 000 Km, they dont make them like they used to
-
you don't need a cert for a manual conversion if EVERYTHING you use is an unmodified factory part, doesn't matter what gearbox, or what model of car it's out of (323, 325, 328 etc)

Whats the worst that can happen? Its not far from an engine stand to the ground, and I assume you wont be lying under it while a troupe of gypsies dance on your engine? Your engine stand should have some kind of capacity on it somewhere, a bit of google will tell you what your engine weighs, the rest is simple math.

Aren't bold subjective statements why internet forums were invented?

That is hands down the sexiest car you could buy in 1993, but now its a collectors car, it needs plenty of love and money, anything less would be criminal.you cant compare it to a modern, mass produced M car.
-
Assuming it has never been in accident and had a repair! Or been submerged, or driven on salted roads, or parked at the beach, etc. Galvanizing is good but its not magic unicorn good, still pays to check.

Everything. I am keeping mine well looked after but there are cheaper options if you want to go hunting on the net. Oil service $1000 New battery $600 Clutch / flywheel $5000 Throttle body actuator $1100 each New diff oil seals $900 Fuel $ all the money you have left!! All through JCBMW at this stage.

E60/61 m5 is a LOT of car for the money, but be prepared to spend to keep it. Really depends what you need, I would love a 1M but need a bigger car, and cant have 2 M cars at this stage!
-
True, but realising its been 600 km since you visited a gas station will ease the regret a little bit !

Is the dsc working?
-
What, no oil change today?
-
I'll sell you mine for 9K, it has had all the above problems addressed, and I will throw in a 6 speed manual, and an e39 touring to get it all home in!

The groove is where the join/s in the leather sits when it hasnt fallen off. I got an illuminated retrofit one from ebay for reasonable money. Not genuine but pretty good quality replica.

Roof insulation usually has a higher R rating, wall insulation has to fit in a 90mm cavity, roof insulation can be thicker, otherwise its the same.
