  1. You definitely want an e30 then. Garunteed to spend all your spare cash and time underneath it.
  2. Looks pretty good to me, for 177kms. Block is clean as unless you did that. I saw it come up during the week and was thinking I should pull a sicky and head down there haha, wish I did.

    Mufflers

Where does everyone buy their rear tip mufflers from? I need something to replace mine with, without losing the deep BMW sound of an OEM muffler. Anyone local deal with Magnaflow mufflers? The 14815 seems perfect for what I want, or if anyone can suggest similar priced / sounding ones locally in NZ? Anything dual round stainless tipped, 3" max. I've heard of e36 m3 mufflers being used too, with abit of DIY. The Magnaflow 14815 - I'd buy one of Ebay but they are a rip with that import tax they now have,
  4. You can do it for half of that easily, you can find m50 or m52 motors for less than 1000, depending where from and kms. The rest is pretty easy to find too, spend another 500 or so replacing seals and gaskets and cooling system bits so its all fresh when you install. Gearbox and bits also easy and plenty of bolt in options. If the e36 is a solid runner, I wouldn't bother butchering it just for the m50 in it. Looks to be pretty nice.
  5. Did my swap in 2 days but got held up by getting the exhaust manifolds welded up. As long as you get all the right bits its a bolt in and plug and play with electrics if you make your own adapter using a e36 fuse box plug and m20 engine loom plug so you can plug in the e36 loom at one end then into the e30 fuse box at the other.
  6. I turned up a couple minutes after you got there for this lol.
  7. Anyone have the cam blocks and tools for an m52 that I can borrow / "hire" ? Can't find the last thread with who possibly had some (maybe Thorburn from memory?) PM is full though.
  8. Sounds like DanThe from e30zone?

    E36 M54 engine swap

Wow not bad at all from a 2.0 . What changes did you need to do to get the S50 ITB's up and running in terms of engine management, or is this now on standalone?
  10. I have a pair of 325i rear trail arms with half shafts, Could be persuaded to part with. I've also done the m52 swap if you have questions
  11. Going by the tags on the thread, your going to widebody this huh?

    White E30

Looks sweet on those Alpinas, genuine or reps?
  13. E30 tourings where its at!
  14. F*ck that sounds killer at the end
  15. If you are going for a m5x swap, better of starting with a 325i. 316i are bottom of the crop and have little to no options, with a 325i you already have the better suspension and brakes, rear axles, medium case diff blah blah. By the time you source and swap all that stuff into a 316i you would have bought a 325i to start with. The only benefit is the 316i (m40 g240) gearbox fits directly to an m5x unlike the m20 gearboxes (without modification to the mounting / shifter atleast).
  16. Ron would love this
  17. It's real easy if you have all the bits. All the holes are there for mounting the positive terminal cradle and the hole into the firewall. But as Andy said it's an absolute nightmare trying to get the cable through, I suggest feeding it INTO the car through the hole in firewall, as the rubber grommet on the cable where it pops in through firewall is impossible to sit right from the inside. Other than that easy as to tuck under the carpet along the side and feed into the boot. You can use the rear bumper bolt as the earth terminal so you need only a short eart even the same as you have in the engine bay, works fine done it twice. Even managed the swap on my touring quite straight forward.
  18. No, close though. That was a sedan and m50b25.
  19. And it's on Megasquirt... So much for all this proof.
  20. Cool, How about a M52B28?
  21. TPS click test is checking you hear a click noise when it closes. Motor doesn't need to be running, just turn the throttle by hand slightly and you should hear the TPS click as it opens / closes. Check for vacuum leaks.

    MY 320i E30

So clean man, you have owned this for a long time. Never thought about going m20b25?
  23. This escalated from last time I had a look haha, looks good man. How much power you going for? Crazy Sweden build numbers? i have the opposite issue, my rear sits lower than the front. Front has raised almost a whole inch with an M52B28. So much lighter than an m20. When I did an M50 in my last coupe, I used Eibach springs, shortest they made (Part of GC Coilovers), I think they were 5.5" tall. Sat reaaally low, to the lip on 16" wheels. But they were 650lb springs so were quite stiff.
