if off a left hand drive, i don't think they will be road legal in NZ??? I think they are ugly as hell, but still want them just coz lol
-
I find it funny how an X5 has gone from being called an off roader to a soft roader over night, and we are now all in agreement my 1995 Patrol (although i could say 1988) is a better offroader, even though it is bone stock.

that iS looks very good in the pics? is it as tidy as it looks?
-
if the engine isn't critical, maybe a breaker bar? you will need to come up with a solution to stop engine rotating, suggest you come up with some way using the front crank etc for ease. once you have got it budged a tiny bit, should be easy sailing from there?

i agree old land rovers look as out of place on tarmac as an X5 does in a field lol

yep its also a massive US forum on which i am a moderator etc over there. its all segmented into chassis type etc which are like a forum in themselves. Im really there for a community. great bunch of guys etc. The E34 section (which isn't even an enthusiast chassis) itself is bigger than the whole of bimmersport combined. So you can imagine what E30, E36 etc are like.

i thought i better let this thread die so that i didn't insult too many people lol. But basically, I was right. Sorry. My Uncle and I and a few others i mentioned this thread to did a wee bit of testing on one of them that a staff member allows us to etc. Very poor axle articulation. Not sure if you can disengage sway bars etc via iDrive, but the 20 minutes finding the correct menu to find the setting... yea nah. didn't put it through any water, so can't comment on wade depth. This is because the transmission sh*t itself. Car (I'm not calling it a truck now) should have been able to handle wheels spinning at different speeds you would have thought, but no. Had only done just over 1000kms. I do have a video of it breaking, but hesitant to post link. I think i will keep it to myself, don't want to rag on Boomrock themselves, they are phenomenal. Was actually taking the video because i was somewhat impressed with it save for articulation up until this point. X5s should stick to the tarmac where they belong, might as well be 2wd. and not pretend to be something they aren't. I can't speak for the E53 or whatever it is the earlier ones. but this later one, yes quick, blah blah etc. Don't get me wrong tho, very comfortable and fast etc if you only ever drive on Queen St. But i wouldn't be wanting to take it out of civilisation where i would be depending on it. As for Boomrock itself, amazing experience, and can honestly say it is THE most fun day I have ever had with pants on. Not only the BMWs (F30 335i was mental!) but clay bird, archery, and fantastic food. If you get the chance to go, definitely cancel any other plans and go, try and swing the full day if you can. Staff seemed to be happy to let you drive the BMWs too which was a surprise, just needed to ask tho.

lol no, but common swap for MIVEC and GSR Lancers, just leave them FWD instead of using full Evo running gear. interesting to know what mounts were used... L200 maybe? -
I'm coming to Auckland for a ride in your SC S62 Darren
-
what about one with an oversized cargo area lol
-
if you mean an M20 3.2L, its not gunna handle any boost at all, will be too high compression and/or weak block??? not that i really know much about that topic, keen to learn tho. Have never heard of a 3.2L M20 surely you mean M30???

Yeah! i saw the twin cam though oh yay another SR20 E30. then i saw it! yeah, pretty cool! Welcome to Bimmersport! -
yep common, but also the motors in for the window fails too, i had a silver 525i wagon that was no good.
-
looks good, seems to be SE spec so should have a few goodies on it you will enjoy the E30, they come in to their own when they are manual, automatics leave a bit to be desired, what is this one? welcome to Bimmersport
-
Promise to post unbiased results! hope they let me use it proper!? Id love to see it be better

yep, depends what your goal for a M5x swap is. If you want a nice street car with options, start with a 325i If you want a track weapon, start with a 316i remember the power difference between M20 and M50 is pretty small, although there is a better power band on the latter. If thats worth it to you then sure. I don't think i would bother swapping a car that is already a 325i. Going to an M52 or S5x of course is much more attractive, considering you are half way there as you should be able to flog the M20 for a bit of coin the 316i weigh about 400kg less too (according to wiki etc) because no sounds deadening, less options etc chuck in a 325i rear subframe to get the bigger diff/axles/disk brakes. they are really cheap chuck in 325i struts. still really cheap go to town
