  1. have a read through my thread, i tried to detail as much as needed so someone can follow in my footsteps as there was no writeup on bimmersport prior to that. should answer a lot of your questions and those i know you are yet to ask.
  2. i can have it out in 4 hours from a driving car to engine on the floor, on my own, and i don't have a hoist, BUT i have done it many times before so i know exactly what i am dealing with. 4 or 5 people will slow you down, 2 will be enough, i do everything on my own. nothing extra on these cars to pull than usual. normal stuff, drive shaft, trans linkage, exhaust, reverse switch, then fuel lines, battery cable, unclip DME, power steering hoses and radiator and its out. on the E36 you need to either seperate the trans from the gearbox to pull it out, or take off the front of the car. taking the front off is usually easier, especially without a hoist. Its really not that hard at all if you have a some logic and a good tool kit including the required torx bits and inverse-torx sockets
  3. must be 1.8 surely
  4. so have done two more track days in this car now, all at Manfeild. James i was doing roughly 1.28s around there and quite consistently. something to bear in mind i am using 8 year old semi slicks and street brakes. to put it in comparison, my uncle was putting in 1.25s in his Porsche 930 bog standard but on same Semis. Have since picked up some M3 front brakes and M3 front suspension is on its way, So will have the following available if anyone is looking to build an E36 - 328 brake kit, much bigger than standard compact, biggest OEM brakes before going to M3 stuff. would be good with race pads, or even something more sporting than the cheapest i could find. - brand new E36 non-M arms - Bilstein sport shocks for non-M - Jamex springs
  5. I did this swap about 8 months ago. In my experience bolting the engine and everything is all piece of cake. however you are adding an extra layer of complexity because you are using a car that is already swapped as a donor, the person who swapped that might have done things differently to "the way bmw would have done it" Three things i found to be careful around or that you should know: make sure you swap the EWS modules over BEFORE you start the car. this is the DME, the chip in the key, and one module either side of the dash. You want a loom from a manual car ideally that won't have all the automatic stuff in it. I know you said you are putting in an M52 manual, but are you using a conversion kit or is the car a factory manual already? The engine plug is the same regardless of manual or auto, but the secondary plug holds all the auxiliary stuff like traction and cruise control, ABS, and talks to the trans, and in my case was pinned differently. If you don't want any of that stuff then leave the second plug disconnected. If its a road car you will need to do a bit of research in this area and make sure it lines up as you don't want to drive around with a christmas tree on the dash. Oh yeah, you also need to put in the 6 cylinder cluster from your donor car, hopefully this is also 328 and not 325 The 325 exhaust is crap, hopefully they have fitted the 328i exhaust to the car. if so, the front section bolts in, make sure you fit O2 sensors if the DME is looking for them on the donor car. you will need to put a slight bend in the middle by heating a pulling it down so that you have enough access for your rear section. From there, the rear is custom. I am parting out my race car soon and going back to an E30 so will have a custom rear section available that will bolt in if you are interested. Have a look at my project thread here: http://bimmersport.co.nz/topic/50304-friseur-auto/?hl=friseur i will do another update on it this afternoon welcome to ask for more information if you need it
  6. yep, have a pair, $250, come with as new pads and a wear sensor. send me a PM and will take it from there
  7. i think it would be about 9 degrees with eve arms and offset bushes when fitted in an E36 chassis. if fitted to an E30 it also depends on if using evo kingpins as well or regular E36 kingpins.
  8. ah yep so article would be right then, the Evo went back to standard bushes
  9. if you are using an E30 gearbox you must use an E30 flywheel (the M20 shaved down to fit is the obvious choice. you could also use dual mass M40 etc.) if using E36 box you have the choice i believe, however since you have room the obvious choice is the M3 setup. I will be pulling the trigger on an M3 setup in the next few days, my dual mass is toast in the race car, so let me know one way or another if you want to recover your money on your setup, ill buy it. Let me know, i won't wait around for ever. Cheers
  10. Thanks for the update James! all the best. let me know if you need any replacement gear. Andy
  11. i would be interested to know if someone here with an Evo (an unmolested one) has the offset bushes or not.
  12. have been enjoying various 5th Gear episodes on youtube lately, its full of snippets and most of them are legitimate uploads.
  13. Hi Guys, came across this link that takes you through the various options, weighing them all up etc. http://www.rtsauto.com/e30-control-arm-bushing-upgrades-also-applicable-to-e36-comprehensive-guide-on-control-arm-bushings/ i sort of think this might be worth sticking in this forum? let me know, will let it be decided first. Cheers.
  14. wouldn't call 11-13L/100km anything that flash for a diesel. would be good if a petrol V8. My van can pull the same weight (my race car, or 2-3 tonnes + of computer equipment). and has never got into the 9s let alone double figures. and sits at 90-110 no problems even up hills. admittedly not the same power or style but do you need that in a work horse? Amarok would have done better than the X5 but the VW lump has been superseded now. but other wise yep do like the look of these new X5s especially in white. the older ones were a but yuk looking and still horrendously priced to by even now they are 10-15 years old.
  15. the stories i could tell about this car and the owner.
  16. great thanks, will hear from you when you are ready cheers
  17. its just a tin shed and i have a bag of insulation. dont really need to over complicate the whole thing!
  18. Might be a bit of a long shot but maybe someone has something lying around?
  19. if i had to do again i would glue and then stitch a line horizontally every 100mm or so with some thread the same colour for some extra support??i used the 3M stuff in my silver e34 touring, came up okay but i see the car is on trademe at the moment and "headliner is a mess" so clearly didn't last very long.
  20. So odd question.. but there must be a reason that wall insulation is different to roof, or is it all just marketing? i have a bale left over from renovations and am thinking i might use it in the garage now we are coming in to winter. particularly concerned if there is any added fire risk. edit: it is a versalite garage or whatever they are called, the kit set type. cheers Andy
  21. lol at the questions some clown comparing it to an E93
