yeah when that elephant trunk blocks the water can't get out, and does that. i usually cut the bottom off it so it has a much wider opening and then clean it out. sometime if the rubber seal is busted buy a new one they are only $20-30 or so from memory, haven't got one for a few years. i should check the one in the coupe actually, i know i have modded the one in the cabby already.

worth every $$

wouldn't you be best to get a later model car than an E38 to do it to? i can't imagine it would be cheap!

yep above procedure,, and just make a few cuts and the carpet comes out, or if you don't want to cut it then you need to take dash and heater box out.

Arrival of the mechanically challenged
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to GIantic010's topic in New Member Introductions
very nice, i do like 300ZX too my old man had one, they are roomy inside (I'm 6"4), they are a big car, but boot is very small. VG30DETT is a hell of an engine though. Your E39 is the better all rounder, and cheaper to fix if it goes wrong. -
funny, never changed bookmark on any of the three computers i use

E30 5-stud conversion - reasons...?
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to gjm's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
also, FYI (might be off topic) Brad from here in wellington is making up some adaptors for those people that soley want bigger brakes, if i remember right they use E34 540 calipers in the front and Audi TT disks. you then bolt on E36 compact rear disks/calipers which are already much bigger than the stock E30 parts. -
E30 5-stud conversion - reasons...?
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to gjm's topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
i agree, finding a guid has been tough, i have done hours and hours of research over the past month. E36 compact rear end including Calipers. easy. Front needs to be either all E30 M3 setup, OR: E36 M3 evo (1995+) - arms, offset bushes, hubs, shock assembly E36 any - wheel bearings and hubs (all the same part number) E30 51mm or E36 springs E30 Top hat, some will also fit the E90 upper spring purch which drops the car a little bit more. E36 M3 or E46 330i calipers and disks. I am having some custom made coilovers done which are essentailly the E36 M3 unit with an E30 top hat, if you are spending all this money and has to be certed any way, might as well go adjustable coilovers as well imho. some cheap skates will use other parts or non-M parts like non-m e36 hubs, e46 arms, e36 upper mounts etc which all messes with suspension geometry. just because something bolts up doesnt mean its right, flat peaks dont seem to understand this what effects track width and caster etc have on a car and wonder why an E30 on stock suspension can out handle thier setup. hope this helps -
i for one am not on the "i hate new top gear" bandwagon. for what it was i thought it was a decent show. no way near the caliber of the seasons before it, but to draw any links to how it used to be is as relevant as drawing links to other franchises on youtube or similar. it is totally different now.

i found low voltage would make my V12 start on just 6 as well or sometimes it would be a V10 or V9 etc. fully charged battery and always solved it. I just didn't want to face up to spending $400+ on a genuine battery of the correct size.

would help to say what are you are fitting it to.

we run 2006+ euro Fords and all of them are boring but good on fuel, and never ever break down except one had a tensioner pulley fail at 200,000 other than that no significant maintenance on any of them they just keep going.

$350 is a good price especially with WOF able tyres. et13 is E34/E32 offset however many people put them on E36 for the aggressive look. just a bit of guard work an appropriately sized tyres to make them work on E36, not difficult at all.

That 1989 E30 with the m50 - thoughts?
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to dimjim's topic in TradeMe discussions

Brake fluid and seal material compatibility
_ethrty-Andy_ replied to Michael.'s topic in Brakes, Suspension & Steering
isn't this overly pedantic Mike? i would leave it to the manufacturers. if its a master cylinder i trust them to do the research its compatible with brake fluid... -

Well i de-Japanesed a lot of my Alpine white coupe today, cluster all swapped over to nice kiwi spec with symbols instead of words, rid of the "unleaded gasoline" on the petrol gauge and swapped the face on the econometer to say L/100km instead of km/L. Interior is all out in preparation to dye the carpets black and maybe the headliner as well. swapped in blacked out leather door cards and rear pods in. slowly starting to come together. still a lot more parts to a mass before pulling it off the road and swapping everything over.
