  1. if you are going to go down the cut and paste method, by all means do the shifter and the rear mount yourself (sorry john, knew that, forgot to post it ha), but leave the driveshaft to be lengthened or shortended by a professional. That Wiki is pretty accurate for most stuff, so im doubting myself... however it doesnt say manual or auto so that could be where the confusion is. i dont see the 318i manual driveshaft working.. it is about 1.5-2 inches longer than a 320i manual driveshaft i did same solution as John, used a complete 320i (M20) conversion, except an M40 gearbox. Note 320i is different to 325i, this is important.
  2. Sometimes the tag on the diff will say 3 numbers, like "3.64" or similar which means 3.64:1 of course. Sometimes it will have 4 numbers, like 40:11 which means 40 teeth on crown and 11 on pinion, 40 divide by 11 is 3.64 as well. some people sell these as 4.10 because they dont understand what the tag says, so pays to check tag yourself, or rotate the driveshaft/input and count axle rotations anyways.
  3. Can you link me to the page that says this? it is incorrect. If you want to use an M40 gearbox, you must use 320i (m20) driveshaft and linkage. M40 will be too long. Avoid using an M20 gearbox if you can, althought it will be bolt in you will need to modify the shifter, which makes it blindingly obvious if you intend to drive without cert.
  4. i have Bridgestone RE002s on my E34 too, which are no longer made an superceeded by RE003 Running 235/45R17 on the front and 255/40R17 on the back, the back doesnt kick out on the power with the V12 driving it. Even tracked on them this time last year.
  5. I admire you keeping your spirit up amongst all these people bashing your decision. I got all the same bullshit and all the hate as above when i brought my first E30, a 4 door tech 2, 7 years later and about 20 E30s later i am still here I will admit i too think you over paid, but the value is always in the eye of the person paying the price, it is obviously the correct example for you. the car itself seems to be fine from what I can see, 4 door tech2s are far rarer than 2 door tech2s anywhere in the world. The value will always be less than a 2 door, but when you are planning to heavily modify a car the arguments above about future resale etc is totally irrelevant. Its very common for Kiwis to be totally blinded by the market value of their vehicle when making decisions be it maintenance or modifications. Its why a 200,000km vehicle is a kilometre away from the scrap heap here. I can't wait to see the progress on this car! Not many heavily modified E30s in New Zealand, particularly road legal ones.
  6. Rob has a facelift. In my opinion, waste of time buying consumables like these second hand, unless you are just wanting to pass the car on or keep it on the road for as little as possible, both of which are senarios i know don't apply to your car Rob! Repco and SCA etc do not stock the correct ones, they will have a listing if you ask, but trust me they are wrong, they do not have the spark sensor thing in them. BMW have them at $600 a set or something stupid like that. Try Euro Italian, Milland, etc, or import from the likes of Pelican parts if you have a shopping list.
  7. no idea what you mean by "three clip part" whatever it is i have several bumpers here so probably have it....
  8. hope those are genuine lights and not cheap knock off depo garbage
  9. no idea what your age comment means? maybe a joke for the over 50s?
  10. Is it bronzit? very rare colour here, i quite like it
  11. is this for E30 or E46? I have never heard of a small case LSD before....
  12. not feeling that imola car either im sorry! tho the 17s and the monster truck ride height arent doing it any favours.
  13. it will be the Best E38 too
  14. could easily spend $4k at each WOF, thats why they are $4k now.
  15. iinteresting history on car jam too, either its an import recorded incorrectly, or it really did sit on a yard in NZ here for some 5 years before being registered personally dont like the colour matched bumper bits that are usually chrome, but im sure that appeals to others!
  16. I don't even bother listing stuff on trademe (or here for that matter) any more.
  17. There was one that went through compliance about 4 weeks ago here.
  18. i have tried that way on a few cars, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt, some can be a real mongrel after siezing on there after 20 years
  19. I went to look at this car when it was first listed, mainly sparked my interest because the yard its in usually has plenty of American stuff, but one day that had this little E30 parked on the ramps, i thought it might have been an american iX because of that ride height, but its not. its not even that tidy, only good bit is the wheels which i suspect are the Japanese type, not the genuine type, but hard to say without pulling a wheel off. Would suspect the coolng system wont last very long once its back in full time service...
  20. Thats the spirit This though. tbh at 30 years old a new radiator can only be a good thing in any case.
