There's a 'late for work' ticket if ever I saw one! Fixed camera too, that's the one after Horokiwi just before Petone offramp. Bummer. Great result mate, this car's really coming together for you. I saw your 'ex-girlfriend Jane' the other day, still looking sharp though in need of a good wax. ?

it's been a long time since I saw it. I buy little on trademe these days, and sell even less due to their outrageous fees.
-
Just 5% bids until you get the “within 5% of reserve” indicator - or does that no longer exist as a TradeMe feature?

Yeah there was a Rotary Mazda mid-70’s that was decorated with their vinyl wallpaper demonstrating how tough and washable this revolutionary product was. I mean, if it stuck to a rally car, dealt with dust, mud, wet, washing... surely it could withstand cocktail parties/fondue parties/kids with crayons? brilliant marketing I always thought.

Attn VW illuminati: Opinions on Mk2 Jetta
Olaf replied to LemonHunter's topic in Other European Cars
I had a MKII GTI 1.8 16v US-spec from mid-'94- late '96, did a lot of work on it (clutch, water pump, loads of maintenance), knew it well. Also drove a friend's 8V GLi Jetta, and a friend local to me had an 8v GLi (The GLi was the Jetta version of the GTi). They're a fun drive, quick, light, and handle reasonably. Aerodynamics of the hatch run out at 190kmh, after which they become brick-like. My learnings: Boge Turbo shocks work much better than KYBs. You don't need 17's. A shifter repair kit and new engine and subframe mounts transform the experience. Best exhaust is the one from Euro Sport accessories in California, not showy but more flowy and more go-ey, yet not pricey. They're good in the canyons and on the freeway. By contrast, the MK3's I drove at the time (GL, GT, GTi) were nice, but duller. Looking at it clinically, I'd take a 1993 318iS any day of the week, thank you very much. Way better chassis. And probably wearing its years better than the VW, too. HTH. -
this part of the thread needs audio interior shots.

Date: 24 Jan 2020 Distance: 261xxxkms 1. WoF. Passed with flying colours. No advisories. I've been enjoying driving her. Summer sunshine, supple rubber. Jon @ Auto38 has disassembled my rear trailing arms, so I'll be stripping them back and treating them as per my front struts, anti-rust, etch, prime, paint, and refinishing and rebuilding the callipers, and we'll be overhauling the rear in the next month or two. Next: Replace Blue temp sensor (ordered) Replace exhaust hangers (in parts stash) Dashboard: repairing SI, dry joint brakepad warning indicator, adding RPM, fitting analogue clock, precautionary odo gears replacement. Audio: Front tweeters, rear parcel shelf, Sound deadening under rear parcel shelf, rear premium speakers, power feed for sub & amps, install sub. Electrical: Install the dual horns, Install foglights, Investigate remote mirrors not working Replace tail light seals (in parts stash) Rear end brake overhaul and spring pads (in parts stash) Clean HT lead connections Get new driver's door waistline trim and clips. Then start on M42 project & LSD. PS: I've had many people compliment me on the car this month. I'll pull into a park, folks will walk up and say 'nice car!'. I'm really not used to this.

yes, M44 came in later e36 and PFL e46

Got a build thread for this? Very interested.
-
Is it oil from the ‘Tron? ?
-
Fixed that for ya ?
-
given your work rate, the e36'll be ready in time for Waitangi day!

Welcome, Lance. I firmly recommend Jon at Auto38, in Newtown.

thing about this engine is, you'll do the valve stem seals, and then you'll do the CCV stuff. and all will be well... for about five mins and you'll find oil leaks, and then the plastic timing guides will crack, the tensioner will go, the chain will jump a tooth... and it won't die as such, it'll just piss you off and not run quite right, until you relent and decide to get that fixed, and then you'll find the ++$$$ as it's valvetronic timing and all the gaskets have turned to hard plastic... and you'll wonder why you were so optimistic and should have bought the reliable safe-bet 6 cylinder equivalent when you had the chance. Sorry mate, these are epicly sh*t motors, pure and simple. Or you're blessed, and should buy lotto.

that's called the X1, I believe!
-
wow. loving those style 5's.

absolutely. REPCO in Napier have usually had what I need, when I needed it. Yes they're pricey, in some respects. But they're open every time nobody else is, and that's worth something. Hopefully it works out for you.
