GM transmission adventures - sharing the experience
Kiwi_BMW replied to gojozoom's topic in General Discussion
Glad you got it sorted, but September to March seems a fairly long time to have this done, what was the hold-up? BTW for those using shudder fix, it is a zinc additive, which eventually fails to work as the actual problem eventually gets that bad shudder fix becomes ineffective. Usually by that stage the only fix is to rebuild the transmission. -
Consumer obviously hasn't had any repairs to pay for.........probably drive around in vehicle covered by dealer warranty.

There is adjustment on the cables up by the handbrake lever, did you loosen them off BEFORE adjusting the shoes? If not go back and loosen them off then adjust the handbrake shoes and finally adjust the cables.

How about the E39 chasing Eleanor in Gone in 60 Seconds

When I look at those with under 50,000km on the clock I wouldn't call them too overpriced, (slightly overpriced yes) not like the E36, E39 schnitzer and the others listed above. More likely those two are just in the wrong place to sell.

If you don't have the m/sport bumper fitted, ie you have the standard non m/sport bumper, then you do need to change a few things behind the bumper, the polystyrene shock absorbers on the bumper support, the bumper support, and everything marked with a "M" in these links RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog RealOEM.com - Online BMW Parts Catalog

It could have an auxiliary pump that is playing up, I've known them to show symptoms like you describe.

my opinion on using kiwi shoe polish for bumpers

Try some blackwow it is excellent for restoring black plastic trim -
Yes it was a bit of a mission, but since i was adding a few things, including some wiring for some future additions I thought pull everything to bits and do it once. Also I didn't need the car as transport so it didn't matter that it took a while to get everything done. I'm in Dunedin, can you still help with coding? I'd be interested in the M coding of the HUD, the HUD I installed works as is with no coding. My HUD came out of a UK vehicle and isn't from a M5 but i understand it can be coded for M display. How did you get the RPM function working correctly?

I've just done an E60, I picked up a L7 wiring loom from an E60 and while I had the interior out I ran all the speaker wires, including the rear door speaker wires to the door plugs, it was pretty easy since the interior was our and I had the original harness. Since I didn't have a most connector in the rear I also ran the most cable to the rear also, ///Mproved if you need an additional Most loop to reconnect your tv option I have a few bits that will work, your most connector is shown in your photos just forward of the top of the amp, I've attached a pic of the Most connector in the E60. I also changed all the speakers to L7 speakers including the subs under the seats. Since I haven't got anyway to update the VO I took it round to BMW but they couldn't get into it, apparently it wouldn't connect into the system so they could change things. I've fitted a few different modules, removed the AHL and fitted a LM2, HUD and also fitted another RLS, don't know if that would cause troubles with the dealer software. So now I'm looking for someone that can alter the VO for me

Is there anyone in the Dunedin area that can do some coding on a E60, I need it told that it now has Logic 7.

I'd never buy a car from them anyway, almost did, once, paid a deposit then they reneged on the terms and relisted it on Trademe, I got it removed due to having a signed sale agreement but they still sold it to someone else, I had to take them to disputes tribunal to get the deposit back. They didn't front up and the adjudicator argued their case, I must've had a good enough argument as he awarded the refund of the deposit and my cost for the inspection of the vehicle.

The best thing about the South Island is the scenery. Things not to miss Omaka Aviation Museum Blenheim Speights Brewery tour The Catlins Bill Richardson Museum Bluff, and take a trip across to Stewart Island and go and see Kiwis in the wild. Manapouri Power Station Overnite cruise on Doubtful Sound - Doubtful is better than a cruise on Milford Sound, but you still need to drive to Milford for a look at Mitre Peak etc Cardrona Hotel WestCoast from the bottom to the top, the glaciers, Hokitika, Shantytown, Monteiths Brewery tour, Punakaiki, Trans Alpine train trip, Cave rafting Just a few of the things I can think of

Yes but I don't think NZ requires that.......or do they?
-
Yes and it's NZ new
-
that means it spent a lot of time idling in traffic as I would expect a M62Tu to do more than 70,000km
-
Makes me wonder what mine is worth being NZ new and originally a 6 speed manual. But why did it need a new engine at those km's? Lack of use maybe?

There are a number of vehicle fitted with xenon lights with no auto level adjusting as OEM equipment. I was talking to someone the other day who imported a set of headlights from the USA and fitted them and they thought that was OK

Only car I sort of regret selling was the MkII Jag with 3.4 manual overdrive, but I did better than double my money when I did sell it so sort of don't regret it. Only BMW I will regret selling when/if I do will be the E39 540is
-
Retrofit the xenon factory lights, far superior to the factory halogen lights and it's plug and play for the lights, just code the light module accordingly.

I own and run a transmission shop and carry out general repairs also

For a E39 6cyl or 8cyl? Springs will be incorrect for one or the other. Thanks
-
The height difference maybe because of rotor thickness difference. The E60 550i had either 30mm or 36mm thick brake rotors and both were 348mm dia.

I've been watching E60's for a while and NZ New isn't easy to find, I did find a higher km E60 with M54 in Olivin metallic with comfort seats etc I drove it back to Dn from Auckland and have to admit the accelerator was sluggish compared to the NZ new E39 530i Msport I sold. I have to say the E39 with M/sport package and lower diff ratio was very lively for a biggish car, especially compared to the E60 with M54. Looking at the specs the E60 is about the same weight as a E39 only with slightly better front- rear balance. After reading about all the problems with the V8's in the E60 I thought a 6cyl would be less troublesome for a daily driver. Now I've got the E60 I keep an eye out for a good spec NZ new 530i LCI but they are sure hard to find.
