  1. Thank you! I feel better already.
  2. The worse thing is I'd be happy to buy a second set, what's the harm in that, right? My wife on the other hand... would not approve, alas.
  3. I picked up new wheels today, at 2pm. Why did you take so long to post these?! I even have a guy who'd bore them for me.
  4. Didn't know about Miland. Thank you for that. I've ordered a vanos kit and watched oodles of videos and read write-ups. I just want to try it on a part I don't care about before trying it on the part in my engine. This is also how I learned to rebuild calipers. I bought cheap used ones and rebuilt them, cleaned them up, painted them and sold them on at the other end. I'm not looking to buy a vanos unit to actually install into my car, just to take apart and put back together a few times to see how they work.
  5. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=EP33-USA---E46-BMW-325xi&diagId=72_0374 The whole assembly on the left. On a touring, it mounts on the floor, behind the back seat.
  6. That sucks Brent. Nice looking car. Any chance it has childseat tethers on the back?
  7. Thank you for replying! Now you mention the type, I need to go double check the kind I have. I'll take pics today.
  8. In excellent condition, with zero kerbing on them. They were recently powder coated and look great. First photos are of actual wheels on my car, others are just of what they look like on different vehicles. Feel free to message me offers. Looking at around the $1000ish.
  9. I'm after some bits and bobs to bring my car as close to stock as possible. To that end, I'm after some bits and bobs listed below. I'm more than happy to pay in cash or beer. One left fog lightUnder engine plastic skid platesFront Cup holderAuto Shifter knob in silver and blackGood condition carpet set in blackOil level sensorAmbient temperature sensorOil filler capValve cover (or whole head, see below.)Double VANOS unit (or, a whole head top down with all the bits, bolts, tabs and fittings) Msport front door sill covers. Thanks! Gabe
  10. Is the tool strictly necessary? I am looking to do this and every video I watch, or guide I read says "be careful, don't touch the camshafts and you should be ok." What I'm doing is buying a head from a dead engine on trademe to try it before doing it on my own car.
  11. I'm looking at doing a transmission flush and all the references online are for US-based products which are non-trivial to find here. What ATF do folks use for their e39 transmissions? Looking for some LT 71141 compatible ATF, I can get the ZF stuff, at ~$25/L or trademe/SCA has Valvoline/Royal Syntrans/Penrite at ~$15/L.

    Beautiful machine.
  13. Hi there, I'm after some 8x18" for an E39 in either style, slight preference for 32s. For 32s, I'd be happy with 8x17" too. In my ideal world, I'd buy a set of five. Thanks!
  14. Thanks for posting this. No word yet on how to get the repairs done though...
  15. Update: I bought the car which I had inspected. The PPI found probably ~$1k worth of things that needed fixing, from oil level sensors, to leaking gaskets. All of which is manageable and let's say it more than paid for itself directly on the discount I got from the asking price. I'll post pictures of the car once I have it nicely detailed and such. Thank you very much for your advice, Allan, Glenn and Qube.
  16. As someone who just went through the process of looking at ~12 cars and finally choosing to get one inspected and bought. I highly recommend you get it inspected at a BMW garage. The seller of my 530i from here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=1249166182 Is awesome and got his own inspection done at his local garage which are ostensibly European car specialists. They missed quite a few BMW specific things (broken sensors and such...) Now, like I said, I looked at 11 other cars before even deciding to get one of them inspected, I used the method from this video: and used the checklist as my personal pre-purchase check. Only one of the 12 made it to the point I took it to Bellars and whilst the inspection itself cost ~$220, I managed to knock off a lot more than that off the cost. Take it for what you will, but I can't recommend that inspection service enough.
  17. Love the picture with the kid. I hope to have a pic like that one day with my son. ?
  18. That is a pretty car Brent. Very nice!
  19. Hi Allan, Thank you again for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it! I still don't know what you mean about the seat.. I'll have the car tomorrow morning to take to the PPI and wil take copious photos and see if I can figure that one out. I am not to fussed about the cup holders, I did read they are fragile and flimsy... I did get a couple hundred knocked off the price for the pixels. From reading bimmerforums, I should be able to fix that one myself I think. The centre caps did bother me also. I only today realized they aren't BMW wheels, thanks to Qube. I'm inclined to sell them on, tbh, and get some bmw ones. Tires look a bit worn/old too. Will have to pay attention more closely tomorrow. I do have an OBD2 reader and Torque. Is that what you mean about the codes? The boot was bone dry when I checked. I will look closely at the seals and tail lights though. Thanks again. I am excited and hoping the PPI comes back positive!
