To celebrate the car being back under cover again (sorry, still no garage for her) after almost two months in the Auckland winter rain, I washed it for the first time in 5 weeks. Feels good, just need my long delayed interior back in and will be ready to be seen in public again!! Still a bit of landscaping to be done but nice to have a better space for her.

I use Trade Me Insurance (basically Tower) for House / Contents and nice car Good rates, good interfaces and never had an issue with a few claims. Classic Cover for the old POS

I felt that car was good buying at $41k. $60k would want to be quite a bit nicer.

Recently picked up an F31 320d Msport and they are great. I did a wireless carplay install on mine recently (will also do Android auto). $400 and about 3 hour DIY install - switches back to iDrive with a press of the button (not that I’ve ever had any need to). Look into Bimmercode too if you want to delve into tweaking / unlocking systems and functions a bit.

Interior retrim almost done - I went to do an inspection this AM (first time I’ve seen the progress in person) and it looked great. Still a few days away but together enough to get a good idea on how it will look. Very happy I went with OEM fabric and bolster fabric as it has a beautiful almost wooly nap to it that looks so good. In the flesh the seats are quite dark and the pattern more subtle so am leaning towards putting the Mtechnic badges on the fronts now - I don’t think it will be too busy / gaudy.

Was wondering if that is stock extended leather - looks like a 370mm Mtech 1 in Burgundy leather - gotta be pretty damn rare

Partially threaded one of my seat bolt holes, getting too complacent using the impact. I do love how I tend to learn the hard way every single time 😑

I've not driven a 220i but I would suspect the ZF 8 speed auto with 290nm on tap from 1350rpm in a relatively light car will feel plenty lively around town. Can also be remapped later to add 50hp and 100nm plus if 'needed'

That's well priced for very low kms, but budget pending, would try stretching to an Msport, or better yet, an M235i. This gen is pretty good by BMW standards, if you're going via a dealer though, just throw a warranty on top and enjoy stress free motoring.

Purchased a small pot of POR15 last month from Trade Me - was expensive ($20 or so for 4oz I think) but only needed a little so didn't mind - certainly dries rock hard!

@jjs Retro style is a big part. What surprises my is how normal 190E's and W124's have not taken off at all - I guess they historically have had an 'older' image and are almost all automatic but for a retro cruiser, amazing value for money with build quality, style and great interiors. I'm a one eyed E30 fan but would take a nice 190E over an auto 4 door 318i.

Thought I would get the ‘inner interior’ all nice before the re-upholstered interior goes back in next week. Shampoo’d the carpets, cabin and boot, repainted most interior plastics and put in some sound deadening (mix of butyl and foam I had in the basement) in the spare wheel well, boot, inner rear quarters / arches and doors while I was at it. Came up well, save a few little coffee stains on passenger side that are ordinarily covered by the seat anyway. Can’t wait to get the new seats, door cards and floor mats in!
