  1. Agree with @gjm, I've only ever run on hub dynos and they will give different figures than a rolling road. Depends on your motivation, do you want tuning or Dyno queen numbers? You could just get the correction factor changed, SAE vs DIN also weights Dyno numbers massively. If you want it for tuning or peace of mind then that another story, shop around as you are, find one that is recommended and don't worry about the final number, worry about the afr's and driveability. Just my 2c worth. And those prices are cheap, it takes time to set up any Dyno for a run, and hub or rolling road they are very expensive to buy and run, they occupy a fair amount of dedicated space and unless booked up all the time they are loss leaders. You will almost always find something that needs work when you hit the Dyno. Good luck with your search, unfortunately I've only used Auckland based setups so can't comment on Wellington.

I see they are using my power buying techniques book, "I like your your sh*te more than you do, so would you take $5 for it?"
  3. When you are having a sh*t few days and wonder if working crazy hours with killer deadlines is all worth it, then do the school run and see another dad stop by the M5 with his son and say "wow that's a dream car". Then I got swamped by a hoard of primary school kids and the serenity was gone, but for a moment I felt good about the world.
  4. Really wanting to buy a re-re Hotshot or Boomerang. A friend of mine had the original Hotshot when we were kids, it was a spaceship in comparison to the overpriced underpowered toys I had. Closest I got was a mini Boomerang which I assembled and promptly raced down the driveway across the road and under the neighbours reversing Lexus. 😁

Managed to drop a valve in two identical petrol water blasters today, within 60 minutes of each other. Something tells me chinesium valve train is not that great.
  6. Can the 6 disc CD stacker be removed from the glovebox without causing the car to throw codes?
  7. Thanks @jon dee, that's the info I'm after. I've only ever seen the Tapley in a frame. I didn't go to BMW for a WOF specifically, I was after the rest of the cars service history and so it made sense to combo them together. Horrible place to be stuck for multiple hours, I had lined up a set of floating wheel centres, an "entertainment" tray for junior and some clothing - but had to pay for the investigation into my handbrake instead. Sitting in the client waiting area and listening to the service agents on the phone to customers I had to try hard not to laugh out loud, pretty sure that every second phone conversation included the phrase "yes that may be expensive, but that is standard BMW pricing". The best one was along the lines of "we have reached four thousand dollars investigating the issue and need to know if you want to go further", that's not fixing thats just working out why it's borked.
  8. Well after querying why my car was leaving BMW with two techs in it I was told they had to do the brake testing and one of the techs needed to hold the the Tapley meter. Which is fine except I didn't see any Tapley meter when they returned....... you can fill in the blanks. And I still fail to see why the M5 needed to go anywhere off the property for a handbrake test that they failed the car on and were trying to correct. Hence my original question. I'm not saying that anyone is being unprofessional, because you would have to think that there are far nicer cars that move through that workshop than my old wagon to go and hot lap.
  9. Can someone please enlighten me as to what the test procedure is for the parking brake as part of a WOF? Assume that the testing facility does not have rollers if this comes into the answer. Thanks.

Having not b*tched for a while I'm having withdrawals..... MK5 Golf GTi that has appeared in our street over the past few months, popping and farting at all times of the day and night and travelling at well over the speed limit. I guess karma is coming home, given my history of excessively loud turbo fours - I was way worse than anything this kid is doing noise wise, but at least I didn't drive like a complete ass in a tiny cul de sac.
  11. Well Bmwfan01 has been so active on here since joining, almost like the only reason they signed up was to lure people into their lawsuit waiting to happen FB page. ROFL at that copyright warning. 😁
  12. My daughter came home today with a raging temperature and being a vaguely responsible human being I'm going to look after her rather than going to the rally tomorrow. So, if some wants one adult general entry and a child entry to Jacks Ridge for tomorrow (Sunday) please message me. These will be FREE , they are electronic tickets and as far as I can tell I can email them to the new owner who can update the contact details. The tickets are sold out so rather than bin these I thought someone else may like to use them. FYi who ever goes you will need a 4x4 for parking as the paddocks are a tad wet.
  13. I had the same thing but NOT on a BMW - a VW MK6 Golf GTI, had the wrong body control module, as a result it interpreted drivers side as the left not right. Thought I'd mention it.
  14. Booked the M5 in for a WOF at East Auckland BMW next week, immediately remembered that I still hadn't sorted factory wheel lugs to replace the long ones and wheel spacers.... Silly me, only had a year to get my sh#t together.
  15. The staging area on the left of turn one is already up for sale.
  16. Totally agree, for me it's rose tinted. The track is epic and teeth shattering in places, it floods routinely despite all the drainage improvements and getting out of the elements is not possible at the best if times. Time stands still for no one, and the operating cost must be huge. I'm surprised it survived this long, there have been a few times where it looked like track was done for.
  17. I'd be up for one of the play days, they seem to be on the calendar for the next few months. Possibly something others would also be interested in?
  18. Many people like myself have a lifetime of memories associated with Puke. My earliest memories stretch back to 1985 and the Nissan Sport 500, I was 6 or 7 at the time and my father who was a motorsport nut and car collector ended up with VIP tickets into what was quite a fancy grandstand at the time. In all fairness when you are 7 years old and you get to go into a catered area at a motorsport event everything seems pretty fancy. Looking back I was fortunate to have attended some crazy motorsport events as a kid outside NZ, but going to Puke was something that cemented the dad and lad relationship and I was lucky to have many fond memories of being burnt senseless (because dads are great at packing the basics...) while inhaling a heady mix of leaded fuel, roasted clutch, brake dust and tire smoke. Fast forward to present day and I've been lucky enough to take my daughter to the last two Supercar events at Puke, and while she loves the noise and spectacle of the cars I suspect she loves the hot chips drowning in tomato sauce even more. While Puke has been on borrowed time for years it is sad that we won't be making any more memories there, either driving or watching - and horses don't count. The Unitron Computer M3 sounded epic. On a side note, I left the M5 at home as I didn't want to deal with the stress of parking it in a paddock (for anyone that has not been to Puke during race weekend every local farmer within walking distance is selling off street parking). An hour after arriving at Puke my wife messaged me to say she had to go out ASAP, having never driven the M5 she got a crash course on how to operate an SMG in 5 text messages and a video link .
  19. I think they are good value, especially if you go in aware of what the possible issues are. Agree they are an oddball, but I think they are a long way from the worst looking thing to come out of bmw design. Welcome along.

Pretty hard to not feel like the system is broken right now. God forbid anyone would ever entertain the thought of having an adjustable silencer, not like that has been a factory option on countless cars for years.... So much of the cert law just seems to be a knee jerk reaction.

Regarding bikes, I can handle just about any straight piped bike other than a Harley. There is something about them that is just brutally obnoxious, and the whole idea that a Harley is somehow an all out performance bike and all other brands are so called "crotch rockets" speaks volumes about the interesting owners. Possibly the idea that bike exhausts with a factory db stamp on them seem to get through all manner of inspection, yet the moment you touch a car exhaust the cops are on you as a boy racer.
